1. Horny Yeshiva students - that's the problem here.
Secular ,   Israel   (02.27.08)
2. The Shas party forcing its belief on the public
Simon ,   TA Israel   (02.27.08)
Are we to live in a state where we leave our moral guidance down to a bunch of corrupt rieligious biggoted politicians whose only real intention is inflicting their lifestyle on the general public in an attempt to gain political power and money as was proved today. With the number of Shas MKS convicted and currently under investigation i think the last place on earth i would look for moral guidance would be the Shas council of sages .
3. Internet censorship bill
ajs ,   ashdod   (02.27.08)
Maybe MK Rivlin and MK Erdan dont mind their children and grandchildren to see inappropriate material. What happened to the Lefts concern for the child. According to this article those who wish to pollute thier mind and bodies can continue to do so as long as they are adults so what your problem.
4. Another bribe to Shas.
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (02.27.08)
Boy, they're really milking this for all it's worth - I guess this is what they learn all day in their brainwashing institutions, how to blackmail, take bribes, & extract concessions. Some might call this corruption, hypocrisy, or worse. Personally, I call it parasitism - "That which lives in or on an organism of another species (the host) from the body of which it obtains nutrients, one who lives on others without making any useful contribution, an infestation" .... I'd say that's an accurate description of Shas.
5. Okay, if someone has to specifically sign out of censorship
Dorothy Friend ,   Tel Aviv   (02.27.08)
... why don't we do what they do in Europe -- one has to sign out of organ donation, and not sign into it like in Israel.
6. Censorship on e-mail. About time too.
vicky ,   Ashkelon Israel   (02.27.08)
7. NO, NO, NO! SOMEONE NEEDS TO TEACH THESE SHASNIKS...
Aharon   (02.27.08)
What DEMOCRACY means! This is outrageous!
8. Silly unworkable nonsense ..
redmiike ,   TA - LA - London   (02.27.08)
Porn is a 10 billion dollar business that drives the Internet. There are millions of sites that change daily! Who will check these sites? And five minutes after they've been checked and the owners have replaced Muffin the Mule with Sexy Suburbs, who will recheck the site and when? It is amazing that in a high tech country like Israel that this bs is even being discussed. Maybe it's just to humor Shas? Mike
9. Yet another law protecting parents from responsbility
David ,   Rehovot   (02.27.08)
It's easy to install filters on computers, but rather than demand parental responsibility or instill discipline in kids, the Knesset follows the annoying practice of blaming others for the terrible state of Israeli society. Getting rid of free speech on the internet doesn't protect kids from international porn or bad stuff, it just gives parents yet something else they can use to escape doing anything to raise responsible children.
10. Shas internet bill
Jim Brown ,   TN USA   (02.27.08)
The next step from the Shas will be to block all Christian internet sites.
11. the right of government to enforce their view on others.....
(02.27.08)
.....shall not be infringed
12. #9 Easy for who?
Sasson ,   Har Nof, Israel   (02.27.08)
For sure, it will be easy for those that know how to work the computer and even post talkbacks on ynet. But, obviously many adults do not know how to use the computer and thus while their children do, they wont have the filter activated. If you want free porn, you can remove it, what is the problem?
13. black day
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (02.27.08)
Shas is a straw man for Kadima. Olmert and his regime want to control the Internet to shut down alternative sources of information. Just like Sharon who shut down the opposition radio with Supreme Court approval, now Olmert wants to shut down opposition Internet. This has nothing to do with the fight against porn and everything to do with the fight against freedom.
14. It's outrageously and stupid
Golem ,   Haifa, Israel   (02.27.08)
They have no right to dictate me what should I watch on the Internet. They have no right to dictate me what to do. They have no right to force me being orthodox. What they want? Who will compose the list of censorship? I want to live in secular country. And they can move in Iran if they want to continue control MY life. I want them to leave Knesset.
15. silly and technologically infeasible
AT ,   Boston, MA   (02.27.08)
It should be easy to get around such screening software, and the benefits are unclear.
16. What is the big deal?
dovid ,   Modiin   (02.27.08)
hardware filters are better than software filters installed on the PC. Any one can opt out of the filter when signing on.
17. SHAS FASCISM :STOP FUNDING THESE PERVERTS
Lou Knee ,   London UK   (02.27.08)
Shas censorship must be ended.Shas is the Israeli political equivalent of the Amsterdam red light district.
18. Censorship
Michael ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (02.27.08)
I don't go to "porn sites", but my research as a translator takes me to many sites that Shas may eventually wish to censor, such as Christian, Muslim and even Palestinian web sites. I think that Shas is too worried about controlling its own Yeshiva students to realize the implications of their proposal. I guess the next step will be to filter out Internet surfing on Shabat...
19. THE BEST Internet Filtering Software - FREE
Sammy Cohen   (02.27.08)
Go here: K9 Web Protection http://www.k9webprotection.com/
20. More Spyware!
Khoemeni   (02.27.08)
Would be better to block all religious contents.
21. Screw Shas.
Mark ,   Elrom   (02.27.08)
22. #9 - yes
Dorothy Friend ,   Tel Aviv   (02.27.08)
I also find in amazing that the same fundamentalist Christians in the USA who call for an end to government interference want the government there to the the work for them that they as parents should be doing.
23. DONT WORRY, BRAVE SURFERS
(03.01.08)
don't worry you brave surfers, only internet perverts and burglars have to worry. I don't thinks religious people are worse than seculars in matter of internet surfing. Don't be afraid by religious. the Toray kill less people than bad moral do.
24. What is the problem here???
Chaya ,   Bat Yam, Israel   (03.01.08)
A person can decide not to have the software if they don't want it! What are you all getting so bent out of shape for? Protecting our children should be a goal! And how dare some of you compare this to Iran! There, they don't have a choice!
25. 12: If you can afford a computer
David ,   Rehovot   (03.03.08)
You can learn how to use it. Meanwhile, proper choice is opt-in, not opt-out. Those who don't wish to buy their own filters, and wish for the govt to babysit for them can request to add the filter. It shouldn't be "on" as a default setting.
26. Eh?
David ,   Jerusalem   (03.06.08)
I think the only correct way to do this is an opt-in system, not an opt-out method. Service providers should be required to provide the software to those who ask for it, nothing more.
