1. Same old, same old...
Neil ,   USA   (02.28.08)
In 60 years little has changed. We still have the murderous PLO and now Israel chooses to negotiate with them over the other "bad" terrorists, and neither group will ever recognize Israel as a Jewish state. Unless Israel gets some competent leadership, there won't be another 60 years to figure it all out.
2. So wait -kassams and shooting attacks aren't armed struggle?
A ,   Jerusalem   (02.28.08)
3. When did armed conflict stop?
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (02.28.08)
Simple answer - never. And it will never end, at least not in the forseeable future. The prospects for peace are zero. With negotiations, without negotiations - with an agreement, without an agreement - a Palestinian state or without a Palestinian state. As long as we exist, as long as there is a Jewish presence in Israel, there will be conflict. It doesn't matter what we do, it doesn't matter what concessions we make, none of it matters. What does matter is our survival as a sovereign Jewish state & whatever we have to do, fine. That's the reality of our situation.
4. good terrorists, bad terrorists -

get it? (aint no difference 'tween the two)
5. English Language lesson for Abbas
Juan ,   Spain   (02.28.08)
Perhaps he didn't say it in English but... For something to resume, it must have first stopped. When did it truly stop?
6. Quite a shame!
Dean ,   London   (02.28.08)
7. we better hurry up and give him strategic assets then!!!
H Ramon, E Olmert ,   Chelm   (02.28.08)
8. Abbas
jeremy ,   Hula Valley Kibbutz   (02.28.08)
Abbas threatening to resume the armed struggle, is a joke in it'sself. Arafat threatened it all the time. However, if he does, so be it, at least we can then take care of all the gunmen that were "pardoned." It's not like they really turned in their weapons anyway.
9. terry ahnd gaza
nathan ,   capetown   (02.28.08)
its all quite simple, either gaza goes to egypt and west bank to jordan, arab west bankor the un put s a permanent multi nation force along theisrael gaze border with instructions to take out rocket attackers, or israel re-takes gaza and all the paluistians can leave for egypt et al or remain in gaza but eveyone lays down their arms there in. but in the end as abbass says THERE WILL BE WAR,meanwhile shalom to youall ,.
10. Wow - Who didn't that one coming!!!

11. Peace Partner??????
karen US/Australia ,   Australia   (02.28.08)
Olmert should be arrested for giving Israel's enemy weapons. My bet is Abbas knows that very soon Israel's citizens will wake up and take to the streets and demand new elections and will vote in a government that cares for Israel and it's citizens. Even Abbas doesn't want any part of Olmert and his circus and is trying to snuggle up to Hamas and look strong. Israeli citizens should sue Olmert (and wipe out his bank account) and the government for the wasted taxes he spent on the P.A..
12. i always found it ridiculous to give any
bruno ,   bouxwiller   (02.28.08)
credit to abbas as a peace partner. he is a normal jew hater as all his compatriots are. Shalom to Israel, blessings to those who bless you, Israel. all those who try to do any evil to Israel have no bright future.
13. Mahmoud Abbas
NYC Girl   (02.28.08)
He's a perfect example of that old saying, "A leopard never changes its spots."
14. If IL leaves Westbank-Abbas will organise a new front agains
Alan ,   SA   (02.28.08)
15. Israel is stalling as US Smuggles More Weapons Into Israel
Lev Bronstein ,   Moscow, Russia   (02.28.08)
For Decades the US has been smuggling money and weapons into Israel that Israel in turn uses in its terrorist attacks on civilians and to further its campaign of ethnic cleansing. The world should start freezing US assets abroad of the companies whose weapons Israel is ,and has been, using to kill innocent civilians during its commission of war crimes recently in Lebanon as well as in the occupied territories.
16. he's a terrorist at heart....so why give him anything?
other then a ,   hellfire   (02.28.08)
17. The true colors of Abbas.
David ,   Hartford USA   (02.28.08)
Once a murdering terrorist, ALWAYS a murdering terrorist. Shame on Olmert for falling for Abbas's sweettalk.
18. But olmert gave rifles and two million bullets to him!
Andras Bereny ,   Kfar Tapuah, Ephraim   (02.28.08)
19. If it was not Israel, I doubt if Abbas would still be alive
Don Saliman ,   Nahal Oz, Israel   (02.28.08)
20. Abbas' quote
Grantman ,   Atlanta   (02.28.08)
"Abbas... was quoted as boasting about the fact that he was the one to "fire the first bullet of the resistance" back in 1965..." Um, wait a minute. 1965? Resistance? There was no "occupation" in 1965. Oh. Right. He wanted to go back to 1865 when there were relatively no Jews at all (save for the majority of Jerusalem, but that's another story). This quote shows perfectly that the 1967 border issue is bogus.
21. False Statement
Yael ,   Gush Etzion   (02.28.08)
Abbas is not a president. He is the leader of a group of terrorist.
22. They can use the Israeli firearms!
Aryeh ,   Ramat Gan   (02.28.08)
This is the same one the Prime minister and his wife wined and dined in their residence in their home. This is the same one that Israel provided masses of arms and armored personal carriers and who know whatever else. When are you going to stop pretending that there is a peace process when the bare facts show there is only a piece process here. Come home to your Jewish roots Israel.
23. Contiue? did it ever stop?
Natan   (02.28.08)
24. Jimmy Carter, where are you?
velvel in decatur ,   decatur ga usa   (02.28.08)
Mayhaps a copy of this article ought to be sent to our good friend Jimmy Carter written in crayon and in big letters so that he can read it? Nothingl like playing with pythons and expecting not to get hurt? And mayhaps Olmert ought to have this read aloud to him about his buddy and "peace partner."
25. What line of BS are snorting?
Ilan ,   Ariel   (02.28.08)
Someone on the loony left wants to "remind" us why we are negotiating with people who don't recognize our right to exist as a sovereign state and are only waiting for the right opportunity to restart an "armed struggle".
26. NOT MODERATE JUST ARAFAT IN A SUIT
zionist forever   (02.28.08)
Everybody is praising this man as a moderate and the man of peace when he is nothing of the sort just a plain old sinple terrorist just like he allways was. He is so proud of the fact the PLO taught Hizbullah & other terror groups than murder |sraelis how to get things done ( murder ). He says he is a peace maker but doesnt say peace is the only way he says that he may be willing to give full backing to terrorists murdering Israelis in future thats not being a man of peace its being a blackmailer saying give me everything I want or I start killing your people. The intefada was planned in advance of Camp Dvaid that if Arafat didnt get everything he wanted then the terror allready going on would be increaesed. Now Abbas is saying exactly the same thing. We keep taking his word for it when he says he wants peace but thats all he does .. talk talk no action and in return we give him money, we make political & territorial concesions to him for nothing but terror. Fatah still havnt changed theirb charter recognising Israel. Abbas himself said palestians will never recognise Israel as a jewish state. Palestian school books still dont recognise Israel and encourage terror. Speeches Abbas gives in arabic to the arab audicence are very different from what he tells the westt and Israel. Nothing has changed since Arafats prime but the left in the west & Israel as usual dream about peace so they are willing to bury their heads in the sand so they dont have to face the uncomfortable reality and they can have their mythical peace. Its a peace treaty is worth nothing more than a PIECE of toilet paper.
27. More weapons for the PA!!
Zeev ,   USA   (02.28.08)
Thank goodness for the Israeli govs forsight to give the PA more weapons. Bc the PA never turned around and used those weapons on Israel before...so why would they again??......................NOOOT Yeesh....I am so tired of this back and forth BS....this needs to be ended the the entire PA Abbas and Hamas being crushed, no mercy. NO UN telling Israel to stop once they are winning why being quite when the Arabs are killing Jews. A world without the PA and Hamas will be a better on, an more so for the "Pales" than even Israel. They suffer under them bc they need them too. If the "Pales" where health and doing well, then Hamas cant blame Israel. When is using Jews as a scapgoat going to get old???????????
28. I don't understand
Lover of Peace ,   Jerusalem   (02.28.08)
"The PA president also expressed pride both in himself and his organization, Fatah, for trailblazing the path of resistance. 'I had the honor of firing the first shot in 1965...'" But - but - in 1965, there was no Israeli "occupation" of the West Bank, Gaza Strip, or East Jerusalem! So then, against whom did Abu Mazen initiate this "resistance" in 1965? Who was he shooting when he "fired the first shot"? Help, I'm so confused...
29. to all pigs and monkeys
(02.28.08)
tow coward soldiers are held by Hizbollzh !
30. As if
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (02.28.08)
He ever had the guts to fight himself. What's next a comic opera uniform, cheesy beard and an empty holster standing the UN with his quivering lip say 'Now don't make me take out this gun again'? Doesn't he remind you of Charlie Chaplin?
