4. Israel's "Excessive Force"
NYC Girl   (03.02.08)
Actually, Israel's response is not at all disproportionate. The only difference is that Hamas carried out their rocket attacks on the installment plan. Israel gave it back to them all in one shot.
5. "I condemn"

12. sick and tired of human rights commision, UN and other
Benayminov ,   Moscow. Russia   (03.02.08)
I am sick and tired of human rights commision, UN and other jew haters. Who always condemn jewish state. I hope one day all those who hate our small country will burn in hell. I cant say anything nice anymore
13. Korean War
Juan ,   Spain   (03.02.08)
And in your Country, Mr MOON how many of the enemy did they kill in the 1950's. Was it more or less than 1 million during the excessive use of force there. What do you want Israel to do, just sit there like a duck-shoot? Send in the UN peace-keepers, Hamas can bomb them, like what happened in Iraq, then they'll scurry off with their tails between their legs. Israel MUST be allowed to lawfully defend its sovereign borders.
14. Antisemitic UN
Sam ,   Jerusalem   (03.02.08)
The only possible explanation for failing to condemn the 8000 rocket attacks on Israel is either that the UN along with most of the western media have swallowed hook line and sinker the non stop Arab/Palastinian propagander or simply that they are antisemitic. Widespread condemnation of Israel trying to defend its citizens from the UN and western media is expected for the above mentioned reasons. Shame on the UN and western media!
15. U.N. = Useless Nations
WISE SABA ,   Netivot   (03.02.08)
Who needs them. The UN is nothing but an anti Israel arab backed useless organization. Disband it.
16. International community
Millicent ,   Israel   (03.02.08)
Isn't it about time that the international community awoke from its coma and realized that Hamas is the cause for the esclation of Violence in Gaza! Israel gave back Gaza to the pales.people, and what did they do with the land? Did they farm it no, did the build houses on it, no they INSTEAD INSTALLED ROCKET LAUNCHES TO Send Quassams and Katusha daily into Israel in the towns of Sderot and Ashkelon, hurting women and children! Israel has the right to stop Hamas from rocketing Israel and I know for a fact that if the US was being shelled daily by Mexico it would respond with shelling too, as would any European country if it was being shelled daily by it's neighbor. Just like Turkey is doing to the Kurds in Northern Iraq! So stop condemning Israel and put the blame where it really belongs on the Hamas led terror infested government!
17. ''A U.N.OSCAR FOR BAN,OR A GOLD MEDAL AT THIS STAGE ?
ROLAND SEENER ,   LONDON ENGLAND   (03.02.08)
THE ISRAELI PUBLIC IS AWARE OF THE INBALLANCE OF JUSTICE SPEWED OUT IN THE NAME OF PEACE BY LEADERS OF THE WORLD HEADED BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE U.N. IN CONSEQUENCE THERE SHOULD BE AN OPINION RATING AS TO PERFORMANCE MEDALS FOR UNFAIR BIASED REMARKS MADE AGAINST THEM ..AND. ONCE A YEAR IN AN APPROPRIATE CEREMONY, AN"OSCAR" SHOULD BE GIVENTO THE MOST DESERVING RECIPIENTS THIS SYMBOLIC ACT SHOULD BE GIVEN A PLACE OF , HONOUR ,AND DEPOSITTED IN A SHOW CASE IN "YAD VASHEM" THIS WOULD SERVE AS A CONSTANT REMINDER OF THE PERFIDY BEING PERFORMED BY TOP REPRESENTATIVES TO THE U.N.,
18. Israeli schools
Johannes ,   Berlin, Germany   (03.02.08)
I don't know what they teach in Israeli schools, however, you apparently don't learn how to read. The Secretary General condemned the rocket attacks on Israel several times in his speech and stressed explicitly out that their only purpose is hitting civilians. He described those attacks as terrorism. Furthermore, he acknowledges Israel's right to self-defense. The only thing he criticizes is the inaccuracy of the Israeli response which caused the death of too many civilians and children. What the hell do you expect? You call him an anti-Semite because he says that Israel's attack is disproportionate? You are pathetic.
19. Targetting Sderot daily isn't excessive of course (rolleyes)
S   (03.02.08)
20. @18 I know you're reasonable
(03.02.08)
but here you miss the point. the UN is stressing the excessive force part, while you can wonder if it is not excessive force by pounding Israeli soil daily with more rockets than Israeli rockets on Gaza in the last two days. If you would only have an idea how the international community and press is stirring up antisemitic hatred, you would talk differently and more concerned. Of course you can be critical towards Israel. I also ask myself if the way they are dealing with the situation now is the right way as it causes to many unnecessary deaths. But blatant antisemitism such as "they should have gassed all of you" are not uncommon towards Jews and jewish organisations in and outside Israel.
21. israel must fight now
daniel ,   swiss   (03.02.08)
Despite Un-hypocrite diplomacy Israel must continue to pursue the goals of the now launched military operation, in order to create a true deterrence toward the islamic terrorists of Gaza and other enemies. It's the only way for Israel to stabilize in the middle and long term the situation and start again with negotiations on a new strong basis. But at the moment Israel must think first of all at his own borders and people security, not to appease any UN-Council.
22. Israel Needs To LEAVE The UN
MK ,   Philadelphia USA   (03.02.08)
The institution is a dangerous joke that gets half of its power from having Israel as a member. If Israel left, the UN would have no use for itself (see the history of UN resolutions and how few were about something other than Israel) and would wither away. Israel must leave the UN, the Utopian Nightmare, before it's too late. Just remember, Switzerland refuses to join the UN. Enough is enough.
23. Dear Johannes!
Nachum ,   Jerusalem   (03.02.08)
What is unacceptable in your and the UN position is the moral equation of the HAMAS terrorist organization, which killed and maimed hundreds and even thousands of the Israelis, including too many children and babies (do you remember the exploded buses in the Israeli cities?) and the actions of the Israeli army, which are really dispropotionate - too late and too timid. You write that too many children and civilian Palestinians were killed? How many? 3 or 5 or 10. You think that the speech of the UN Secretary General is balanced. Now here is the balance: Israel moved out of Gaza, destroyed the florishing Jewish communities and consented to the creation of a Palestinian state. HAMAS "thanked" us with rocket salvos and swore to destroy the Jewish state. They aim to kill our children. The Israeli army tries to avoid any damage to the civilian population even risking its soldiers' lives. But the HAMAS warriors use their children as a human shield and act in the midst of the populated areas. Now another point. Who started this war? HAMAS! So they bear the responsibility for ALL casualties, including those on their side. Just like the nazi German authorities are blamed for the destruction of Dresden, the suffering of their population and the death of millions of people, because it was them who stated the 2 World War. The aggressor is the culprit, not the victim of the aggression.
24. UN Israel using excessive
Voice of Reason ,   Here & Now   (03.02.08)
The UN should be quiet or do somethign. The UN has stood back and watched Israel get Qassam rockets fired at them for a total of 7 years. All the UN knows how to do is condemn Israel. The UN has become a useless organization.
25. #23 perfect!
Nick ,   London   (03.02.08)
but I'm afraid it falls on death ears of the majority of the ignorant world community, you can talk the truth until you're blue in the face but for some reason the world chooses to believe the Pallywood propaganda.
26. UN and "excessive force"
Christian ,   Sweden   (03.02.08)
Please understand that what happens in the UN security council has nothing to do with justice or international law but everything to do with politics. Hamas & Co. knows that they cannot defeat Israel militarily for the time. The rocket fire has political aims. When Israel defends its citizens, Hamas and PA cry "war crimes" and goes to UN where there is a majority hostile to Israel or at least unwilling to take a stand against the Arab-Muslim "crusade" against the Jewish state. The rocket fire will be condemned, more or less pro forma, but Israel will be blackened as the user of "excessive force" and that hurts politically. And if US has to use its veto in the Security council it will be a great victory for Hamas & co. For every time US uses its veto in defence of Israel, the US position in the Arab-Muslim world is weakened. This is a win-win situation for the enemies of Israel. Either US will abandon Israel or US will be decisivly weakened in the ME. And of course Hamas will go on firing their rockets from the inside of densely populated areas. That is part of the scheme and it works. The loss of civilian lifes is a calculated price for political gains. To flatten Gaza as some pinheads propose is no solution, that is, if you are not prepared to flatten Egypt etc. There is in fact no simple, immediate, solution to this problem, but there certainly is a need for creative thinking.
27. #18 No, you have it wrong.
Scott   (03.02.08)
We can read. The measurement of responses that result in incidents considered by some as "disproportionate" is difficult to evaluate conclusively beforehand, since all likely targets are positioned or moved in and around amongst enemy civilians. This is a deliberate tactic by the Pals which places their civilians in harms way by using them as cover. Israel is losing its own soldiers while trying to minimize possible enemy civilian casualties. That is in stark contrast to the Pals , (which as we all seem to know except you) who's implicit aim is to murder Israeli civilians - outright. So, why not shut up , you ignorant ranter? You're full of shit.
