1. Does the recording industry want a war with the kids?
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (03.09.08)
It is a fact that the majority of "downloaders" are teenagers. They are also the "group" who support their pop idols at live concerts. The record industry, by taking action in this way, could provoke the artists to release their music on internet music sites for free as their income from royalties is a pittance compared to the money being made by the recording companies. The last thing that pop idols need in their lives is a war on the kids by the record companies which could result in a boycott of their live performances. Another fact that should be taken into consideration is the price that the recording industry is charging for CD's and Music DVD's. A new popular song is released and the CD is sold for NIS80 to NIS90. This is a very high price to pay for one song accompanied in many cases by a load of garbage on the disc! It is worth looking at http://entertainment.howstuffworks.com/music-royalties5.htm for a very interesting breakdown of the way royalties are calculated. The music and movie industries should also remember that, as history has shown, close down one system and another, better one, pops up almost immediately. If the ISP’s start a “site war” the question then arises as to the legality of interfering with the internet.
