Arab territory is expanding, while Israeli territory is shrinking. Even on the "leftist" side of the Green line Jews are being driven out of Sderot, Pki'in, Lod and Nahal Iron. Jerusalem is being divided. As for "Homat Magen", what did it achieve? A few dead Arab fighters who have become legends and the blood libel of "Jeningrad", while the Netanya hotel has been forgotten.

Even a cursory reading of the basic theories of terrorism (from the Red Army Faction and PFLP in the olden days through to Al Quaida) would inform Mr. Walt that it is PRECISELY the aim of terrorism to provoke a massive reaction from the government. The idea being that this massive reaction will discredit the government in the eyes of the people and the world. Wait and see if they are right.

The West should not be the only one to respect the Geneva convention. As has been proven since 60 years, unfortunately, peace is not an option in this part of the world. I notice that Olmert, Livni and Barak are not very popular among israelis. Who do you israelis prefair to be in charge in time ahead of us? My personal meaning is that Olmert seems to be a week leader in times like this, but i don't know the political "system" good enough to see who could me the right man/woman for the job right now?
