1. Harideem keep out of Tel Avi and our lives
Simon ,   TA Israel   (03.13.08)
Once again they use their usal blackmail on anything they consider not kosher. Israel is a modern democracy and is not a county run according to halacha. They have no right what so ever to tell us when and when in TA we can do our shooping. As a gay guy we are denied our basic rights to democracy and the right to march in Jerusalem , so butt out of TA its not your territory. Stay in Jerusalem where you belong. i will now do my shopping on a saturday which is my democratic right!
2. Great
charles ,   petach tikva   (03.13.08)
Maybe the supermarkets of this chain will lower their prices , and normal people will profit . GREAT . In my town there is a charidi supermarket , not cheap at all , and not correct neither . They refused to sell me a product , on the price written on it . All other chains do it .
3. Democratic Right
oren ,   kiryat gat   (03.13.08)
To #1, it's also the haredim's democratic right to boycott. It seems like you want a version of democracy in which others agree with you. But that's not democracy. Democracy allows for others to disagree and to take legal actions to advance their position. So keep out of Democracy!
4. Shut up Simon - do yout shooping in phuket
Jo Jo ,   London   (03.13.08)
Simon – shop on Saturday and you loose your right to live in the Holy land. God says that those who do not obey the laws of the Torah will be spewed out of the land. The Land of Israel is being defiled by Jews who openly and proudly break the Shabbat! Do you know what that means?! It is a tragedy – you are too far to realise what a disaster that is. It means you have disassociated yourself from the Jewish nation. You are liable for death. You have forfeited your right to life. You are not considered Jewish anymore. Leave the Holy land and go to Las Vegas. I’, sure you will find peace there. You complain about the real Jews telling you what to do, yet you are telling them to “Stay in Jerusalem where you belong” – not a very tolerate attitude – where is your modern democracy now?
5. I love the Haredim
Palestinian   (03.13.08)
They are honorable people... I think people should respect their rights in all what that means... If life is not based on mutual respect for the others belief, then what are we living for?
6. Not a Chiloni Dictatorship
Yaakov Noach ,   New York, NY   (03.13.08)
If the store owner doesn't want haredi business, he can sell to his fellow chilonim. If he wants haredi shoppers' business, he can show even a minimal amount of respect for their community. But you don't come into a community and diss the people and then act surprised when they won't sit still for "you money is okay, but you aren't."
7. #2 Democratic right
Shalom   (03.13.08)
Simon, it is indeed your democratic right to shop on Saturday, irrespective of what the Torah tells us. Equally, it is my democratic right to refuse to shop at a store that is going out of its way to turn the Shabbat into another commercial opportunity. If we both agree that we both have a democratic right to do as we please, you probably also agree that people have a democratic right to campaign for their position. Therefore, if we all have democratic rights, and this is a democratic country, why do talkbacks get so undemocratically nasty. At the end of the day, the owners will do what they want - and that is their democratic right.
8. He did not pay enough
Nadav ,   Misgav   (03.13.08)
Anybody in this country know that this problems can be avoided by "donations". So stop talking about observing shabbat.
9. In Germany shops are closed on Sunday.
G   (03.13.08)
10. ha
Roey   (03.13.08)
"the rabbis cannot live with the fact that people will actually desecrate Shabbat, directly or indirectly"...i cannot live with the fact that they discriminate against women however i won't tell my religious grandparents they must boycott haredi businesses.... i try to cooperate and be respectful with the chasidic, honestly, but it seems its more me being respectful...i don't keep kosher or observe shabbat but that's my choice not theirs. if i lived in a chasidic neighborhood i would not have a loud bbq on shabbat so the issue is, a business in a chasidic neighborhood that targets them should accommodate them but let the rest of the businesses that do not be able to serve their customers as needed
11. yes, but...
John ,   Jerusalem   (03.13.08)
Yes, in a democracy everybody has the right to be heard. If the Haredim want to boycott, then that's their right as well. However, the religious have to also understand that they can't force a store owner to close because of their own religious beliefs. Religion is a personal choice and operates in addition to, not in place of the law of the state. Forcing your religious beliefs on others violates their basic rights. If the religious want to boycott, fine, but why also take away somebody else's rights in the process?
12. #1 Semyon why did you leave Ukraine?
Sammy   (03.13.08)
All the vodka shops there open on Friday night and all day long Saturday
13. There are some Jewish people that stand up for Shabbat!
Avraham ,   NYC   (03.13.08)
14. Good...They are the Wall-Mart
Al   (03.13.08)
Its their way or the friggin highway. All secular anti-semites be warned you are on an endangered species list..You are fast disappearing and the sooner the better. PS Take along that fat slob Lapid and his merry gang of drech fressers with you.
15. jo jo in london ,
charles ,   petach tikva   (03.13.08)
stay there and hold your stupid comments for your friends . It were mostly secular , if not anti religious , Jews who gave their blood for this nation , and not guys "a la" jojo . You have'nt ANY right ti tell us how to behave . You asre'nt even a Jew for me , a TRUE JEW can be so stupid .
16. Shalom , you can't even read numbers

17. Is anyone forcing him to close?!?!? it is a simple financial
Gidon ,   Modi'in   (03.13.08)
18. Haredim Boycott Modern Life
(03.13.08)
Tell us something new.
19. #4 - forget Simon, you don't sound too tolerant yourself.
(03.13.08)
20. #4 JOJO
telavivit ,   israel   (03.13.08)
And you don't really have the right to say to Simon! I see you are in the UK stay there, do us people in Israel a favor! Keep up the good posts Simon ;)
21. #20 telavivit
Jo Jo ,   London   (03.13.08)
I think you better think twice before you tell me I do not have the "right" to influence what happens in Israel today. If it were not for the millions of Diaspora Jews, I doubt very much whether Israel would have lasted longer than a couple of decades. You have no "right" commenting on a subject - the sanctity of the sabbath - you know nothing of. Leave tel aviv - you are defiling the Holy land.
22. One thing is certain - the leftist are getting stupider
YS ,   Judeah   (03.13.08)
It's true and researched. The G-dless ones are being rendered dull and thick in the head. No wonder they're being taken advantage of by our enemies. Their brains are being atrophied. It's something to do with not keeping the mitzvot. It's as if with every passing day, their brain cells are getting diminished with *huh*''s, *say whuh*? *whah*? And *what me worry*? Pitiful really.
23. There is still "tikva" for Charles in Petach Tikva
Jo Jo ,   London   (03.13.08)
Vechol haoseh melacho beyom hashabbat - mut yomat. All those secular anti-religious who disobey Jewish law indeed have blood on their hands. They cause God to take the lives of countless Jews as an atonement for their ugly and arrogant sins. 20,000 Jews have died due to Israel's existence. This is something to be ashamed of, not proud of. Face it Charlie, if not for those Jews who clung dearly to their sacred customs throughout their long and dark exile, there would be NO Jews and NO Israel. FACT: Zionism will only prosper as long as religious Jews continue to thrive.
24. al , gai im drerd
charles ,   petach tikva   (03.13.08)
oder leb wi a retech . That's what a Jewish secular Israeli is wishing you .
25. The South is Covered - Boycott in Place
YS ,   South   (03.13.08)
No one in my family and in my neighborhood will step foot in a Mega or any one of those stores. Next - SuperSol for false advertising and falsifying *specials* - as one mitzva is just as important as another and thou shall NOT place stumbling blocks before the blind.
26. Not quite...
Jo Jo ,   London   (03.13.08)
No Charles, it's what a secular Israeli is wishing me. Jewish? You just gotta be kidding! You eat pork on yom kippur. Hashem yerachem
27. Jo-Jo the ass clown....
Andy ,   ramat hasharon   (03.13.08)
Cooling her heals in London telling us when to shop. What a fool.
28. religeously unenlightened
common sense   (03.13.08)
As a Jew whose business does not afford me the luxury of not working Shabbat if I enjoy the frivolity of feeding my family, I have had this discussion several times with members of the orthodox community including Rabbis. The conversations were mutually respectful and enlightening. The hate speech posted on this page is reflective of the sanctimonious fools found in every religion. Do you think God likes you spewing hatred, threats, and vitriol while invoking his name? That is the true blasphemy!
29. John , they only take
charles ,   petach tikva   (03.13.08)
the rights of the seculars away . But Oi vai , if you say something about them . Oi vai ! if you don't obey their desiderata , or worse , if you don't give them everything . If they think that by acting so that they will be respected , they are wrong . If they think that they will be more tolerated by the GOOD Israeli Jews , they are also wrong .
30. jo jo , no hope for you ,
charles ,   petach tikva   (03.13.08)
the same thing as for al . We , the seculars are those who , mostly , build this country . Not you in London . Where did those 20.000 Jews die ? No problem for me , i'll continue to drive sgabbat and even yom kippour . I'll continue to go to Tel Aviv on Shabbat , while you stay in your stinky hole .
