hoshea ,   regina, sk, canada   (03.13.08)
'revenge' belongs to Hashem! Nevertheless personal repentance belongs to us. The need to turn to Hashem is is greater than we surmise. We cannot defeat those who opsose us without Him!
4. Instead of Revenge
Jerry ,   NYC, USA   (03.13.08)
perhaps we should be trying to save lives? Keeping Shas in this Coalition of Destruction is costing lives. I smell hypocricy.

8. yosef and God
marcel   (03.14.08)
All religions figure god is on their side. Chosen people, light untio nations---Israel just concentrate on being a good country. Don't be arrogant. Chosen and light unto nations is rubbish.God does what he does and it has nothing to do with praying and history. All the religions are self-serving and they are all removed from the creator. The 6 milion dead would have been better off scrambling for guns to defend themselves than relying on what they thought was god and good faith of religions. The arabs in this regard have something good to teach us-everybody -get your guns.In the meantime-yosef- stop kissing coward olmert's ass and get shas to step down. olmert's problem with his wife is not israel's proble.,.

10. To #5 are and ignoramus
Yitzchak ,   Yerushalyim   (03.14.08)
Attacking the traditional dress of Sephardi / Mizrachi just shows yuour ignorance and sows disunity amongst Ashkenazi and Sephardi customs and dress style. Perhaps I shall call the Ashkenazi Rabbi's ..... because of their European dress.
11. #5 Never trust a man who dresses like a Penguin...
Chaim   (03.14.08)
You aren't the only one who can be intolerant. Your ignorance is astounding and an embarrassment to all Jews.

13. To the author of this article- you are insane
yoni ,   jerusalem ISRAEL   (03.14.08)
you are totally nuts. I was there and you got everything that was said out of context and totally wrong. firstly rav ovadia yosef did not say that. secondly rabbi weis spoke the entire speach about how to "come to terms" with the pain although he did say that in the begining you missed the rest of the speech - maybe you went for a cigarette break but this is pathetic reporting and miguiding the public. I hoep you never write another article again you shoudl be sued and forced out of your job. do you know what type of damage you are capable of?
14. to #8 you are an atheist non jew who has no values
yoni ,   jerusalem   (03.14.08)
you are in a very sad state of life if this is all you know about it. you havent the first idea of what G-d truly is and you have no idea what he wants from you nor could you care less. do you have any reason for living? is that too scary a question to ask yourself so you just ignore it? you have totally messed up views on human responsibility and if it were up to you everyone would be kiling everyone else. I would hate to see how you raise children on such warped values. are you jewish or does that not have any implication on yourself either

17. Ever think the attack would not have happened...
Josh   (03.14.08)
...if we weren't teaching magic and forbidden additions instead of Torah. Rather than stating we should continue our ways as the Rabbis suggests, maybe we should examine why God's protection isn't there in the first place. I think we should stop expecting the Messiah to be a cure-all. Even Moses and witnessing God's miracles could not cure people who rebelled. Unlike the goyim who praise their God when chastised, we should re-examine our course over the last few centuries which has been repeatedly failing us in achieving the level of protection the rabbi refers to. "The yeshiva, with God's help, will recuperate and become stronger." sounds too much like lets rebuild the church when we look at history in perspective. The Rabbi said it himself "acceptance of one's punishment." The Rabbi thinks these victims were punished. For what? Sins? As God punishes the sinners, what is he indirectly saying about the victims? He and the Yeshiva instructed them. They were just following orders. With this rational, there must be a flaw. When an enemy who has no respect for the elderly and the young is brought against us and is promoted higher as we sink lower, it indicates we are not under the blessings. (It is written) As the spiritual leaders put us where we are and these victims are shinning examples of Rabbi educated Torah bPeh learned, maybe an examination of Torah laws (bMichtav) and what is actually being taught should be compared. Like a General who misleads his infantry, an inquiry should be no less important for this spiritual battle that is repeatedly suffering losses in recent history. Can a General say, I am a scholar and I follow the rules of the sages, therefore the inquiry should cease? Can a General state there are secrets and therefore he is unaccountable? Could even Moses himself state such? The question, “When did you problems begin?” is a very good question when the “sages”-card is played. Additionally, at one time Kabalah was recognized as magic. Now it is not? What the Ballam Ballak story taught us was that we could not be defeated nor cursed because there was no magic in our tents and Jaacob was upright in his ways of following God. It is forbidden to lie to God and forbidden to add or subtract from Torah. To add laws or ignore text. Should we as individuals not check that he did? It is greatest form of respect to rely on the integrity of the Words. Why do we sin under the umbrella of a black hat? According to Torah if we follow the laws handed to the slaves and uneducated leaving Egypt, we will not suffer at the hands of our enemy put will be protected like the pupil of His eye. It was not a secret to them and it is not a secret to us. It would be nice if we could achieve this level of protection from God that the Rabbis promises if one follows the rabbinical path. Accept no imitations. This promise was made long before the rabbis existed. What happened to Abraham's paths of straight forward understanding. This is the origin of Torah blessings. One God who has no form we can make and no objects or incantations that harness his power. What ever happened to trusting with love, not objects, additions and rituals?

19. agreement with Josh
jim ,   america   (03.14.08)
Amen ,Brother Josh
20. Is Yosef ready to fly to Teheran ?
Hiram ,   Neve Ativ   (03.14.08)
The attack of Jlem Yeshiva is a tragedy. Wherever Jews are killed in a terror attack -has been,is,will be a tragedy, and I certainly can understand the emotion connected to the attack by an islamist gangster....but we do not need this kind of statement from ANY spiritual leaders and especially a clown like this man who represents obscurantism like it is promoted in Islamic countries. When is Yosef flying up to Teheran and meeting his mollah counterparts , trying to impose his views and that of his party which are far far far away from the real Jewish values..... ( And for God's sake , take those shades off Ovadia !!! )
21. To Marcel and others
Britt ,   Gothenburg Sweden   (03.14.08)
I am cristian and not jewish, but I belive the Jews are the chosen people - not because they are better it`s just a matter of fact, if you reed the bible. The history and the profecy about Israel, is a sign of where we are in time, and what´s about to happen. The fact that they are chosen doesn´t make it in any way harder for you to come to God and be saved for eternety. The Jews didn´t follow God, so they got punished and wasn´t able to have the country for 2000 years, but the country is theirs given forever to them by God, he never regrets His promises, and I think we should see more of Gods work in Israel if all of the people, aspecially those in the Knesset turn to God in prayer befor making decisions. God bless Israel!
22. rabbi said nechama not nekama
yoni ,   jerusalem   (03.14.08)
23. To # 12
Hiram ,   Neve Ativ   (03.14.08)
But an idiotic little hat, funny shades...and above all an intellectual level which places him next to the Iranian chief mollah !
24. Look how and elevated we are!
Phil ,   Manchester   (03.14.08)
At the memorial service of our sons, our spiritual leaders speak not of revenge through violence, rather of growing in LOVE.
25. Avenge Yeshiva Deaths Through Love
Michael ,   St Louis U.S.A.   (03.14.08)
By the "love" strategy the Maccabis would have been in error in their defense of Eretz Israel . This sounds like the Christian "turn the other cheek" nonsense. We need a Yehoshua, Shimshon or Devorah to rise up, or better yet, Mashiach Ben David.
26. and the rose tinted spectacles ...
(03.14.08)
27. How can Shas afford to leave the Government
(03.14.08)

All that separates is a letter. And that may make the difference between war and peace.
29. So what ? - my son likes A and I like B,
S Judah ,   London   (03.14.08)
What about it? And is this not the son who has a differing view point from his Father? And what on earth has Shas got to do with this article? The son may well be right in this environment. If you has switzerland and Sweden as neighbours he would be wrong.
30. Michael, St. Louis, #25 you are wrong
Jake   (03.14.08)
Rabbi Yosef is not following a 'Christian turn'. He is merely quoting from the Torah and Jewish law. Of course Judaism mandates that punishment must fit the crime, but vengeance is for God alone. Leviticus 19:18 also says that "Thou shalt not take vengeance, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself". The ancient Israelites and Maccabees you mention did not achieve victory through a motivation to achieve vengeance, but rather the restoration of the rights of the Jewish people. This must be the motivation of Israel today.
