2. filtering programs
peter ,   amsterdam NL   (03.15.08)
The names mentioned in this article of the most effective and advanced filtering programs: 'Education' and 'Discipline' don''t ring a bell with me. Look at: http://internet-filter-review.toptenreviews.com/ for some real suggestions. But actually being there with your kid when it's surfing the internet is much more effective.
3. censorship with good intentions
Eitan ,   Israel   (03.15.08)
What is the concern that Shas addresses? that parents will forget to put filters on their internet at home? Or they wouldn't care? It just expresses their low opinion about secular people, pushing for taking control over the nation's parental decisions. Besides, one thing is when your computer at home doesn't have porn, and quite another if porn generally becomes a rare commodity. I already can imagine the conversations in a schoolyard: "so have you seen it yet? Here is an mpeg video file I downloaded from my uncle's computer, see what you have been missing?! Tommorrow i will download a whole bunch for your I-pod" Children will always find the way, especially such a technologically savvy children that we have today. All we are going to do is create a challenge for them, making it more interesting. And besides, the greatest threat that internet poses for a child is not seeing people having sex (a fact that we can't hide forever), but getting in contact with sexual preditors. And this issue is not addressed by mandatory filters, and actually they could make sexually explicit chatrooms an attractive alternative. Oh, and no, i am not saying that just because I personally want porn and am too shy to ask Vladimir, if this was my interest I wouldn't have any problem to do that. I wonder about the Shas members though? No, they don't seem shy either.

If Spitzer had stuck with getting into girls' panties by proxy only, he'd still be governor......
6. Ethical morals according to Shas
Simon ,   TA Israel   (03.15.08)
All this internet blocking bill is absolute nonsense , its just another attempt of Shas to inflict their so called morals on the general public, which incidently include, forgery, corruption, death threats and inciting violence. So some how the last people on earth to preach morals would be the Shas party.
7. The law can't work!
redmiike ,   TA - LA - London   (03.15.08)
How many people would it take to check 100 million web sites? And millions more are getting added at a faster and faster rate. Could your ISP check them? And after they check a website and label it clean, it changes the next day. Who will decide what porn is? Is a breast porn? A male or female organ? etc etc You can block some websites and so what? A domain name costs $7 so a blocked site can open within 24 hours under a different name. People proposing this bill have no idea what they are talking about and simple prove that are completely out of touch with reality. Mike

Education and discipline don't ring a bell for you ? niet verstaan ? I dacht nochthans dat Hollanders slim waren . Have to change my mind about smart Dutch people . It's the education parents give , and the discipline they impose . Need a drawing ?
10. Just buy larger pants, supersize ones

12. I don't get it
(03.16.08)
Don't liberals like big government telling you what to do? It is surprising to hear someone who calls himself a leftist talking about personal responsibility.
13. I agree with you totally
Isaac ,   US   (03.16.08)
You said "As a liberal guy hungry for excitement I'm even happy, here and there, to open up to new experiences and broaden my horizons." With your mind set we need these laws.

15. confused
richi ,   eilat Israel   (03.16.08)
On a philasophical level I agree with this article entirely.... On a more emotional level I am beginning to feel that the internet has exposed us to a world with out taboo. It maywell be fundamentally changing the way we have relationships and i am afraid in most cases not for the better.... I so dont want shas to have the ability to be the self elected morality police... but on the other hand maybe access by choice would at least put a thinking filter into the world of super exposure we live in and to be honest I am not sure that it is only children who have become more vulnerable I think adults are no less at risk
16. # 9 smart humour
peter ,   amsterdam NL   (03.16.08)
No Charles, you don't need to draw it for me :-). When Raanan Shaked writes: "The most effective and most advanced filtering programs are called 'Education' and 'Discipline'. A parent able to use those two programs effectively would be able to protect his children rather easily, even without technology, without paying for specialized software..." ...I miss the irony in that last sub-sentence. It requires a sophisticated sense of humour, especially in a foreign language, which I clearly don't have. But the link I gave at least is useful for people who want to install software because their children don't take their parents teachings to heart in their absence.
17. Makes complete sense
News Reader ,   P''T, Israel   (03.16.08)
So the government prevents people from opening up a strip club (which doesn't even have any scenes of open sex), within one mile or more of an elementry or high school, but people think its alright to have porn automatically within reach of every young child. Your people's minds are ruled more by the box of societies conceptions than by logic. There always is a balance between liberty and protection. Many people argue that it is unfair for the government to prevent citizens from having full access to marihuana. Most people have enough common sense to know that this should not be allowed. The same question of liberty vs. protection applies to seat belts. However, that issue is more on the line.
18. Pornography isn't the issue...
Michael ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (03.16.08)
The issue is censorship. Anyone who doesn't at least spot-check what his children are doing on the Internet is not a parent. Today it's porn, and tomorrow it will be other sites or categroies. Where will it stop? A law like this violates our freedom of choice. I don't need porn, but I do visit Palestinian sites for ammunition to turn their lies against them in various forums. Will this also be blocked? Self-discipline is the word-- not censorship. Shas, with their record of corruption, should be the last ones we allow to tell us what "moral" is.
19. Excellent article
Jewish Mayhem Mag ,   LA, USA   (03.16.08)
This was a great article to read. Sadly the internet has become the babysitter, replacing the TV. My Jewish online magazine is on the chopping block I guess. www.jewishmayhem.com
20. I want clear definitions
Daniel ,   TA   (03.16.08)
Is it a porn site if I see a womans hair? Is it a porn site if someone has exposed elbows or knees or G-d forbid....both! What if she's exposed her OMG navel! What if she wears ...RED that evil un kosher color. When governments censor to "protect" citizens we enter into a police state with no freedom of expression. This potential new law is evil
21. It's porn if...
Avinoam ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (03.17.08)
...it expresses an opinion contrary to that of Shas.
