31. Speaking German is not the problem.
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (03.18.08)
Our idiot MK's have as usual missed the point. It matters little what language Merkel speaks - it's what she says & even more important, what Germany will do. So, what is she saying? Remove all the "friendship" BS & diplomatic double-talk - and she is saying Germany, like the rest of the EU, wants you to compromise your security by creating a Palestinian terror state on your border. Sign an agreement with an irrelevent powerless nobody that will not be worth the paper it's printed on & make every concession to do so. And, especially, take no defensive action that might compromise these delusional negotiations. That's what she is really saying. On the subject of Iran, well, nice words, no action. Germany will not cut it's considerable commercial ties to Iran. German companies are doing a booming business in Iran. Appeasement on all fronts is the message Merkel has come to deliver & whether she delivers it in German or in Zulu, it is the same message. And our gov't.of fools & knaves is swallowing it whole.
32. ?
darryl ,   israel   (03.18.08)
who needs them anyway
33. Pines
sam ,   jerusalem   (03.18.08)
Pines also speaks fluent German, loves the Arabs and their sick European supporters.. so it is not wonder he felt right at home in the German Parliament
34. Merkel and forgiveness
Grant Thomas ,   Brookfield, WI, USA   (03.18.08)
Angela Merkel did not participate in the holocaust! Neither did most of the Germans alive today! It's time to stop acting like the blacks in the U.S. and whining over the past to people who didn't do it. Time for the secular morons in Israel to turn to God and ask Him to forgive and protect them for looming disaster. I'm coming to Israel on a tour in September and I've been paying closer attention to Israel, and I'm sad to see how cruel many of the Israelis are. Maybe it's time to look at the lessons of the Old Testament to see how God handles a "rebellious and stiff-necked" people.
35. not a nazi country
gerhard ,   munich, germany   (03.18.08)
It's really highly interesting this debate on the German language, which would also had the opportunity (just some voters difference to English) and it would had become the official language of the USA in its pioneeering times. But it's not about the language. In Israel and in Germany nothing should be forgotten, and really not the cruelty of the shoa. Keep in mind: Germany of today is not the nazi country of the past. It's now the third generation after WWII over here - and they are not guilty and not responsible for this murdering. However, there is this terrible heritage of its nazi past. The links between Germany and Israel are strong, and Germany feels commited to support Israel even more stronger than other European countries. From a real spiritual-human point of view: how can you make peace (you have to start with yourself) when you cannot forgive? The past cannot be changed, its gone and in our memory, we just have the here and now, the presence, in which we live and act.
36. let her address the knesset in any language she chooses
zionist forever   (03.18.08)
It might be considered disrespectfull by a minority of MKS but treating Merkal like some kind of criminal because she wishes to address the Knesset in the language SHE SPEAKS AND UNDERSTAND BEST is wrong. If a holocaust survivor can see no problem in her speaking in german then the rest of them should accept her right to address the Knesset in her own mother tongue. The real trouble makers we need to worry about are Ahmed Tibi and the rest of the arab MKS who will see this visit as an oportunity to embaress Israel and support the enemy cause in front of the German chancelor while she pays a diplomatic visit.
