That depends on whether you are referring to a Jew as one born as a descendent of one of the twelve tribes, or one who practices the religion og Judaism. One can be renounced, the other cannot. The more this boy's family talks, the less sorry I feel for them (of course I still feel sorry for him, but that's a different story).
