1. i'm not worried
Chanalau's Mother ,   London, UK   (03.25.08)
like the bible predicted everything else that happened, it also says that israel's enemies will all bite the dust.. there will be fatalities on our side of course, but we'll be able to count them, unlike syria iran lebanon and egypt ;-) cheers!
2. There is an obvious conclusion.
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (03.25.08)
All the talk about coexistence, integrating Arabs into Israeli society, national service, military service, job opportunities, etc. etc. - the whole collection of liberal panaceas for making Arabs into "loyal citizens" has no chance of success. The unfortunate reality is that things are moving in the opposite direction. To be fair, it is an unreal expectation. The sad fact of the matter is that in the Middle-East, ethnicity & religion count for much more than abstract ideas of "civil society" - and this applies as much to us as to them. Say what you will, but "Israeli" means Jewish while their identity is by & large Arab & Muslim. Given current circumstances, we are two peoples with irreconcilable differences who do not belong in the same political entity. The best analogy is to a couple who cannot continue a marriage - the best solution being a divorce.
3. easy solution to this problem
Dr Greenthumb ,   Israel   (03.25.08)
The easiest and most cost effective solution to this security problem is a legal one (as opposed to the current enforcement one). Legalization of the drug trade within Israel. Legalizing the hash, marijuana, and heroin that the terrorists use to raise money for their weaponization and to turn citizens into traitors will rob them of that economic route. Israeli farmers and factories could produce the products for domestic consumption with special permits thus elimination the illegal trade from Lebanon. Those permitted could be those very same Arabs and struggling Kibbutzim removing their raison-de-etre for entring the international drug smuggling business (into Israel anyway). The knock-on effect is that it would give a tremendous boost to Israeli tourism for the very same reason that tourism to Holland is so high. Great weather plus legal drugs could add billions to GDP. It sounds zany, I know, but it's the best way of tackling this problem and of making a good situation out of a bad one. And since most Israelis rarely drink let alone take drugs I think we can rest assured that the users will be by and large, like in Holland, tourists and those that were using these substances when they were illegal.
4. NONSENSE
(03.25.08)
The goverment must do smth. else if it wants to fight drugs & not to type such foolish things
5. #3 is correct
Mike   (03.25.08)
Economics 101 tells us that legalizing drugs eliminates the black market and brings everything in the open. The gov't can regulate the drugs, monitor the users, tax the drugs, all with the effect of taking away a revenue source to our enemies.
6. # 3 Dr Greenthumb
H. S. Thompson   (03.25.08)
"most Israelis rarely drink let alone take drugs"... hehehehehe were have you been living the last 20 years? Unfortunately the Israeli society is obsessed with drugs, and the government is just closing its eyes and is not educating our kids enough, no anti-drugs commercials etc...Maybe you should spend a weekend in TA and you will see that all people (teens) from all walks of life are high on drugs.... to legalize soft drugs is an option but this will never happen in Israel unless there will be a separation of religion and State, which I think is the only solution for Israels survival...
7. #3/4/5/6 The article isn't about drugs.
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (03.25.08)
It's about Hezbollah using every means possible to make war against us, including using criminals & Israeli Arabs to obtain intelligence information. And while there are certainly good arguments on legalizing soft drugs (we could export drugs back to Lebanon for example), the issue is the non-stop war Hezbollah wages against us by every possible means, including recruiting Israeli Arabs as spies. And if you don't believe that Israeli Arabs constitute a potential fifth column, then you are probably smoking some stuff yourself.
8. Drug distribution is monopolize by the Israelis

10. #5 only tells half the truth
Jake   (03.25.08)
"Economics 101 tells us that legalizing drugs eliminates the black market and brings everything in the open. The gov't can regulate the drugs, monitor the users, tax the drugs, all with the effect of taking away a revenue source to our enemies." But the main goal of Hizbullah will still have suceeded, genius, i.e. turning Israel into a nation of junkies and destroying it from within. The illegal drug trade might go down, but drug consumption will skyrocket. Look at Amsterdam. What happened in America after Prohibition was repealed? Did it become a nation of tee-totalers? And we are not talking about alcohol here, but about NARCOTICS.
11. Who DOESN'T sell drugs?
Che Vive ,   Ghetto Beach, U.S.A.   (03.26.08)
So many organizations fund themselves through drugs it's amazing they cost anything at all! Terrorist groups, governments (my own included, from what I understand of the history of the Vietnam War), even plain hobbyists! You worry about Hezbollah heroin? Rest assured, much of it probably makes its way back across the border to sooth the edgy nerves of Lebanese civilians traumatized by endless exposure to violence. The notion of Hezbollah attacking you with drugs is silly. Drug money, yes, but the drugs themselves, no. Drugs go wherever they're wanted or desperation makes them needed. There's no controlling that, and I don't think there's a drug dealer who cares about who's buying anywhere in this world.
12. to #3
maya, nz   (03.26.08)
i was with you and all, until you said legalise heroin. you high? im all for hizbullah selling drugs, they are cheap, high quality, and what our region needs is to calm the f*&% down
13. NO to legalizing drugs
Merrill ,   New York   (03.26.08)
Numerous studies confirm - soft drugs legalization leads to higher crime rates, lower productivity, leads people to try harder drugs, etc. etc. Do what Canadians did - having a small amount of marijuana isn't considered a crime, just a misdemeanor which leads to a relatively high $$ ticket payable to the state immediately, but being caught with anything over X amount would be a major crime, punished by jail time. Also - Israelis need a massive awareness campaign - when you do drugs to send money to Hizbullah.. Also - increase the drug use in Hizbullah's camps - create a demand for the product there so less of the death product ends up in Israel..
