31. #18 what sort of democracy needed for house demolition
observer   (03.27.08)
((B'Tselem also brings the testimonies of Shahade's wife and children, who claim that several days prior to his death, security forces demolished his house)) >>>the demolition of houses as punishment is a grave breach of international humanitarian law. The declared objective of this policy is to harm innocent persons – relatives of suspected perpetrators, who are not accused of any criminal wrongdoing themselves. The demolition of houses is a clear case of collective punishment, which violates the principle that a person is not to be punished for the acts of another. Collective punishment is therefore illegal regardless of its effectiveness. From October 2001 to the end of January 2005, Israel demolished 667 Palestinian houses in the Occupied Territories as a means of punishment, leaving more than 4,200 persons homeless. Half of the demolished houses were adjacent to the family homes of suspected perpetrators of terror attacks. In February 2005, the abovementioned committee recommended that the policy be stopped.. The same month, then-Defense Minister Mofaz adopted the recommendation. http://www.btselem.org/english/Punitive_Demolitions/20080314_Letter_to_Mazuz.asp

Dr John ,   Rechovot Israel   (03.27.08)
Maybe they should have been "Miranderized", Given Tea & biscuits, Told their "Civil Rights" Persuaded to accompany the soldiers to the nearest 5* hotel& then been released for lack of evidence. These are savage murderers who have never given a moments thought to those they killed & maimed. They deserve NO LESS!!!!! than they got. I suggest that BTsalem take a "Hike"

Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (03.27.08)
The function of the Army is to fight wars. They are not a police force. Their rules are shoot anybody that is armed REGARDLESS of their current actions. That is how the military works
34. Human rights for suicide bombers...
Rehavam ,   Israel   (03.27.08)
We live in MAD country.
35. #31 the one threatened with extinction by Arabs!
The Doc ,   Haifa, Israel   (03.27.08)
... 4200 people homeless after destroying 66 houses??? I did not know that in Gaza there are 63+ people living in each house! Forgiving your malicious mathematical "mistake", those 66 houses were demolished LEGALLY (decided by the Parliament) as they belonged to terrorists who have murdered Israeli citizens (Arabs and Jews). I would say that the victims of those terrorists and their families lost MUCH MORE than a house which will be rebuilt with terror and drug money. I do not cry too much on behalf of those criminals' families. They have plenty of money from "donors" like Iran, Hezbollah, Saudi Arabia and of course, the much publicized "donation-spree" of the late Saddam Hussain (the Butcher from Bagdad). The declared objective of house demolition is to serve as a deterrent, and punishment for familes who nurture terrorists but Israel's enemies encourages terrorists to perpetrate their crimes promising them and their families enough money to live well and rebuild the house. As a matter of fact, the PA is rebuilding the house of the arch-terrorist Shadeh with money they receive from the US and EU - the very countries they hate so much! I bet the new house will be much better and more spacious than they had before - courtesy of IDF and some moron and/or vile foreign donors. House demolition is NOT "collective punishment" as you claim - it is VERY pin-pointed punishment - only for the families raising terrorist dogs. The "adjacent houses" actually did belong to the family. As you probably know from your "observations", clans tend to build their houses together. In this case, not only the immediate family was responsible, but also the clan itself (or at least part of it). Your quasi-researched rants and slogans taken from the Muslim and Anarchist propaganda are only a facade for vicious disinformation. That won't work here. Go "observe" somewhere else.
36. That's for the 8 yeshiva boys, you bastards!

37. No great loss!
Miriam ,   Israel   (03.27.08)
By killing terrorist, we will never have to release them in an exchange.
38. Terrorist raids
John Silver ,   Lakeland   (03.27.08)
Possibly members of B'Tselem would like to join the IDF when they raid suspected terrorist hiding places (unarmed of course) and see for themselves just how peacefully that they surrender?
39. Btselem's entire fieldwork/data collection deprtment is Arab
Jake   (03.27.08)
The Jews at Btselem are merely paper-pushers who pass on the "message". Btselem should register as a foreign organization.
40. Roland Seener, #7, absolutely wrong
Jake   (03.27.08)
You really should check out Btselem's website. It is voraciously against Israel, and treats Palestinian terror with the lightest of kid gloves. It is all mouth no ears when it comes to Israeli actions and claims, and all ears no mouth when it comes to Palestinian actions and claims.
41. and you Chalanau #17, take the cake

42. very unreasonable talkbacks!

No to taking justice in the hands of security agents and yes to HUMAN RIGHTS. Those suspects could have been arrested and brought to justice!! What happened to morality, humanity and us the jews!!! Wake up!!!
43. #18 so, you hate them for being arabs or muslims?

observer   (03.28.08)
On the prospective assumption that he would have attacked to kill, and presumed to have homicidal intent, you are entitled to murder him first? That rabbinic legal dictum is even less morally extravagant excuse than the killing of wounded "terrorist or would be terrorist": ((there are two reasons which obligate the killing of a wounded terrorist: First, the objective of the terrorists is not only to carry out a single murder, rather they want to kill more and more. Therefore, as long as he is alive, we do not know what will occur, he may heal and be freed from jail and kill again. And the second reason, is so they will see and be afraid, this is deterrence. If a terrorist knows that in prison he will receive pleasant and proper treatment, and afterwards will be released as a national hero - the element of deterrence has disappeared.)) A little problem is here; no one is allowed to preach to Jews, but a terrorist (in their classification) can!
46. #45 Jew who abides by the law
(03.29.08)
if the rabbinic law justifies murdering a wounded person who has no defenselessness, then it must have been legal killing.
