OK, I'll excercise a little self-censorship & tone it down. But I have to say that the issue is important enough for some blunt talk regardless of your editorial agenda. There is an unusual principle underlying this compensation idea. That principle is that a future Palestinian state must be Judenrein while the State of Israel should host a large Arab population which generally considers itself Palestinian. Isn't reciprocity a fundemental principle? Isn't fairness the basis of any solid agreement? In what way does the presence of Jews impede a Palestinian state when the presence of Arabs does not impede the Jewish state? What are the implications of this idea? Some might compare this to apartheid, to some form of racism. Would Ms Rice like to explain why Jews cannot live in a future Palestinian state if Palestinians can live in Israel? Could she relate this to the black experience in America - that blacks should not live among whites? Is there not something very wrong underlying all the assumptions about two states living side by side in peace? What does this say about our supposed partners in peace?

Your exactly right that while arabs can and do live in Israel, jews will not be allowed to live in this new magical, glorious, disneyland-esque shining perfect model of democracy that the palestinians will create whereas they absolutely no historical precedent for creating a successfull arab democracy. They fought tooth and nail usuing terror with jewish blood for 60 years or more to get "their land back". If Condi thinks arab hatred of Western democarcies will end by caving in to terror, giving up land, and paying off people to further that fantasy, she should suggest that Mr. Bush kick all Texans, and Californians out of there homes (compensation will be provided). Mr Bush should also be made to shake Osama's hand, declare him a partner in peace, give him weapons (to protect the US for the extremists), and declare more than half of the US is to be made into an independant, peaceful state for the terrorist.
