1. Noooooo?!?!?!?! a religious thief? how can that be?
Talula ,   Israel   (04.01.08)
Doesn't that go against everything they hold sacred? Or does a couple of million make them forget their moral conduct? The Torah undeniably prohibits stealing, bribery and fraud. But this is just another example of their disgusting greed and disregard for everything that is decent and moral. Feh!
2. It is just Shas party policy
rh ,   Modiin   (04.01.08)
Shas will support any Govt in return for money for their Educational institutions. The party has always been self serving and corrupt. 1.5 litre bottles litter the country because of Shas
3. Another convicted criminal from SHAS
Simon ,   TA Israel   (04.01.08)
And all this is the party that is so keen so enforce its "high moral" code on the rest of us. Instead of judging and slandering others and enciting hatred towards gay people they should look in their own house, , no doubt it was all a misunderstanding and a set up? Well at least MK Shlomo Benizri will be amongst friends in Shas including: former party leader, Aryeh Deri, Raphael Pinhasi, Yair Lev, Ofer Hugi and Yair Peretz, who have all been convicted of offenses including fraud and forgery. We cant wait to hear Ovadia Yosef worm his way out of this one. Just another example of their so called moral standards.
4. Earthquakes
David ,   Yerushalayim   (04.01.08)
I guess he was wrong about earthquakes being caused by homosexuals. Now it is clear. They were caused by his Chilul Hashem.
5. judaism as become morally corrupt
ari ,   israel   (04.01.08)
no matter where you turn evil is there. religious/non-religious it just doesnt matte. the world is immoral, unethical and has simply been forgotten by God.
6. If OLMERT is not behind bars with ALL HIS CORRUPTIONS
Miriam ,   Israel   (04.01.08)
the court has no right indicting a small offenses.
7. religious
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (04.01.08)

8. Does corruption cause earthquakes?
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (04.01.08)
9. Why would Shas be exempted from curruption?
Hiram ,   Sfat   (04.01.08)
First why are politician entering in politics ? For the love of people ? or in that case the love of God ? Come on, lets be realistic.....Shas MK are as corrupted as the rest of the politicians. Temptation is a part of our daily landscape. One could expect that "those people" who have God sleeping under their shoes may be different.....but not ....to no avail..... Religion and money do not go together.....even for Shas. This is yet an other exemple why the Israeli system should be purged of religious party involvement in the governing of the nation....
10. # 6 Mirriam stick to the subject
Simon ,   TA Israel   (04.01.08)
The issue here is mk Shlomo Benizri not Olmert. So according to you if one man is corrupt (olmert) then it makes it ok for others?.Stop defending this low life criminal. The very same man that dishes out his morals and so frequently preaches others on how to behave according to the Torah. SO what does your Torah have to say about this we would all love to know. Is this the light unto all nations you talk about? It appears you to have become blind to what these evil people are doing and saying in the name of religion.
11. #7 No this is not the best religious can do.
Keren ,   Israel-SP   (04.01.08)
They are just exceptions.Human exceptions. Religious Jews are generally extraordinarily good and wise people. It is sad that just a few can draw evil comments such yours. That's why we Jews should always be alert to our conduct. We are not like goiym who do evil and nobody notice. We must always set good examples, that's the truth!
12. priorities
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (04.01.08)
"The State further announced that it will be asking for a moral turpitude clause to be included in Benizri's sentence." Sexually assaulting a teenager has no moral turpitude so you can be a Vice Prime Minister, but bribery is so much worse. Right
13. ... because God wants you to be a thief....
Patrick ,   Haifa   (04.01.08)
Whatever you do, just don't eat a bacon sandwich... remember to wear your kippa, your black hat under the glaring sun... and lie, cheat and steal as much as you possibly can. Remember, God only cares about what's in your belly, not what's in your heart....
14. shass cares for the poor?
ami ,   israel   (04.01.08)
15. SHAS AND CORRUPTION... LIKE A HORSE AND CARRIAGE...
stude ham   (04.01.08)
The weakness of israel's democracy is a system of proportional representation that would allow even the mafia to get a few seats in its knesset. As for the Shas contribution... no wonder so many sneer at the black hatters...
16. is this the western democratic system
Arab ,   Nonedemocratic land   (04.01.08)
Presedant = sexual harrasment Primminister = financial corruptions Ministers = several Type of corruptions from sexual to money MK is same same I believe it is better for us to have our dectators since they are same. at least we know what it is
17. 11 - what about aryeh deri (shas)? same party, same jail
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (04.01.08)
"We must always set good examples, that's the truth!" - so when you gonna start? we're waiting..... yawn
18. Reply # 9 - The difference is
Simon ,   TA   (04.01.08)
True as you point out corruption is wide spread i agree. However in the case of SHAS, they promote themselves as religious party , and preach morality to the Israeli public. They reguallary judge and slander others and quote Torah and enforce their so called morals on the general public. All this from a party that comprised of 6 convicted crimials who have been convicted on charges of courruption and fraud. So thankyou but i think the SHAS hypocrites are the last people on Gods earth to preach morality.
19. # 11 Please list the crimes of Mother Terresa the goy

It's the system,stupid-the way they all do poltcs here. Benzri case looks qutie innocent when u compare it to Olmert's.So stop displayng shasohybia and go to a shrink to treat your lapiditis vulgaris desease.
22. The Shas party is so corrupt.
Rich ,   Toronto, Canada   (04.01.08)
But the only reason why they stay in the government is because the other parties are just as corrupt. Why should Jews support this government any longer?
23. All that without being gay?
Global Citizen ,   Israel & USA   (04.01.08)
24. # 11 Mother Theresa
(04.01.08)
took money people gave her to feed the hungry in Calcutta and sent it to the Vatican. You asked.
25. Torah permits corruption!
Jo Jo ,   London   (04.01.08)
There is nowhere in the Bible which says you cannot pass on information for personal gain. It is obviously an Israeli law made in order to stop politicians abusing their position. There is nothing wrong with this under Torah law. The only thing which is detrimental is that it brings, irrationally, religious people into disrepute for breaking Israeli law. According to the extreme religious position, no Jew need adhere to Israeli law, as it is forbidden for Jews to enact political laws while they are in exile and any laws may be ignored.
26. Only his hairdresser knows for sure
Gideon Reader   (04.01.08)
Prisoner number 23 How do you know he is not gay?
27. # 24 nice try but i dont buy it
Simon ,   TA Israel   (04.01.08)
nice try to diver the attention away from this Shas criminal, please provide evidence to back your claim. The issue was is that according to posting # 7 claims all goys (non jews) are evil and criminal, i wonder what would be the out cry if they called all jews corrupt and criminal in Europe?
28. #3 Simon
David ,   USA   (04.01.08)
I would expect you to be the first one to jump on this subject. You love it when someone else, especially a person who claims to be Religious, commits sin. It makes you feel good all over doesn't it Simon. It gives you some sense of justification in your own Torah violations when another fails. As you wallow in your abominable sexual sins it is good to have the company of other sinners that you can point your finger at. Do t'shuvah Simon. Clean your own house before you spout off about others.
29. IT IS OKAY TO BREAK THE OTHER NINE COMMANDMENTS
Squalid Ibn Harman ,   Qtir   (04.01.08)
As long as they keep Shabbat according to their perverted interpretations (Eruv, etc.) it is okay to break the other 9 of the 10 commandments and 612 of the Taryag Mitzvot.
30. This is not about religion
Phil ,   US   (04.01.08)
This person's conviction and his failure to resign from the Knesset is just an indication that Israel's government and political system has descended into anarchy. There are no standards anymore and a person is free to stonewall and spit in the face of decent and honest people. It really doesn't matter that the crook is from a religious party because even the secular Prime Minister's office has been touched by criminal activity, The problem is the Israeli public's passivity and willingness to tolerate this type of behavior. Those who delight in the fact that this person belonged to Shas are missing the point.
