1. please don't show a picture of her
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (04.04.08)
we don't want anything bad to happen to her (ie, family "honor").
2. Kol HaKavod to her...
Ilan ,   Ariel   (04.04.08)
While I'm very happy to hear this, I always wonder if publicity at this point isn't something of a security problem. Still from the vantage of this young woman and for the public as a whole this is a very, very good thing. I only hope that she can fulfill all of her dreams as she seems a very positive type of person.
3. wow! i am proud of her and wish her the very best!!
JL ,   israel   (04.04.08)
4. God bless her for standing up for the country!
me ,   here   (04.04.08)
May her bravery and dedication be well recognized and honoured together with her co-workers in the IAF! It is so good to hear a piece of news that confirms that not all "Israeli Arabs" are against the state or at least unreliable!
5. ynet working hard as make arabs look good and
jews look bad ,   she = security risk   (04.04.08)
6. This is not possible :-)
Simon ,   London   (04.04.08)
This is not possible, Israel is a racist, apartied state, that would never let a Muslim Arab be anything but a down trodden human being. Perhaps the liberal facists and lefty Europeans should be told.
7. what?????
Marcelo ,   Frankfurt   (04.04.08)
The arab pilots who trained in USA made the 11/9 attacks....just to remain how much trust one can have toward arabs....
8. If anything, this proves right wingers WRONG
Rami ,   Nazareth, israel   (04.04.08)
right wingers use every opportunity to incite against the Israeli-Arab community and waist no time in calling us traitors and 5th column. This is only one example proving that israeli-arabs are loyal to Israel and are not out to destroy it, as right wingers claim
9. Makes Jews feel very secure!
Jack ,   San Diego, USA   (04.04.08)
10. What The Hell Are They Thinking?
David ,   Marietta USA   (04.04.08)
11. Not Good
Shimshon ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (04.04.08)
I do not think that you could ever trust this women - if it comes hard on hard her choice is clear - the enemy!
12. ok, but don't attach rockets to her wings.
gamba & pilpel   (04.04.08)
there's a limit in trusting arabs.
13. Good for her - may she serve her country....
Andy ,   ramat hasharon   (04.04.08)
honorably and be respected and admired for it in all sectors of Israeli society.
14. Girl power, hehe
Korem ,   New York, USA   (04.04.08)
This woman has my full, 100% respect & admiration. I wish her health, safety, luck, and happiness for the incredible honor she is doing Israel and for her determination and will. G-d bless you!
15. to # 8: ... at least some of them...
me ,   here   (04.04.08)
16. no wonder, masks are there
arba revolutionist   (04.04.08)
niqab is for women, not men
17. You go, Girl!
M. Hartley ,   Atlanta, US   (04.04.08)
It seems that she as well as her CO have managed to separate religion from politics, and that's the way it should be. It may be the only way for a country to hold together and survive in the long run.
18. Oy, Hashem Yishmor! Hasn't Israel Learned Anything?
Doesn't Israel remember the "trusted" Arabs and the 9/11attack?
19. Exceptional medical skills are irrelevant
Jameel ,   Shomron   (04.04.08)
Nothing can be worse for the IDF than Islamic affirmative action. FACT: She did not have the proper military clearance for such a sensitive unit, and was admitted by mistake. Just because she may be an exceptional medic is no reason to endanger Israel's security. The misguided commander who admitted her will eventually rue the day his liberal tendencies got the better of him. If it was a mistake that got her into this unit, she should not be there, period. Anyone JEWISH who would have been mistakenly assigned to this unit would have been kicked out long ago, no matter how exceptional. Pathetic. Jameel @ The Muqata
20. be careful
elie ,   bat yam   (04.04.08)
Make sure her family doesnt find out, remember HONOR KILLINGS do happen Im sure her brothers or father will love the fact that theyre daughter/sister is a pilot in a JEWISH army.
21. Guess she will not be on a different misson
22. #8, Rami, I disagree
David ,   Boston, USA   (04.04.08)
There are good and bad people in all groups, religions, ethnicities, the difference is what risk versus what reward are you willing to take. I understand the needs to be careful and I also understand the desire to integrate. The solution usually lies somewhere in the middle, but I am very proud of Israel trying to make it all work. Its not easy. Nothing is perfect, but lives are at stake.
23. Palestinian Arab in IDF? Muslim in the israeli armi? Shame
Yaakov Sullivan ,   NYC   (04.04.08)
24. hard to call??
yor   (04.04.08)
keep it limited and let a long time be the judge.
David ,   TA   (04.04.08)
26. Did they Really thought you enough to land on Knesset?
Tayfun_Turkey ,   Istanbul   (04.04.08)
27. But I thought Israel was an "Apartheid state"
Jake   (04.04.08)
I thought that it was impossible for Arabs to become Israelis. I thought all Arabs in the "Zionist entity" are Palestinians living under Israeli occupation, with no access to the "Jews-only roads".
28. We've seen here how "talent" doesn't preclude betrayal
Raymond from DC ,   Washington, DC USA   (04.04.08)
Last year, a Lebanese immigrant, who gained citizenship through a sham marriage, gained access first to the FBI, then - due to her "talents" - the CIA. She was caught after accessing intelligence information she should not have. Her family has links to Hizbullah, so it's outrageous she was ever taken on board. We also have a lot of experience with Chinese-Americans granted access to highly sensitive military projects, who then proceeded to pass that technology on to China. Some were part of "sleeper cells", here for years building up their credibility before going into action. Even if this one has no nefarious intent, she can be subjected to blackmail, as in "spy for us or we'll kill your family". Prudence demands constant vigilance, even of those you trust.
29. Give the lady a chance
M. Hartley ,   Atlanta, US   (04.04.08)
I never forget when the company for which I worked hired its first “colored” person in l969. There was meeting after meeting, threats by employees to quit, veiled threats against the new person, demands for separate restrooms, drinking fountains and coat closets. (Well, back then ALL colored people supposedly had cooties, whatever exactly those are.) Here came this woman, Maxine Peoples, black as the ace of spades, yet cute as a button, with a smile as bright as the sun, a personality to match and smart as a whip. Well, nobody quit, there were no separate anything’s, and nobody harassed this woman, even if it started out on penalty of getting fired. Instead, it wasn’t a week before "Max" had turned the loudest anti-“colored” screamer into her best buddy. What we only found out later was something on which this classy lady didn’t want to trade and for which at least the guys would have fawned all over her: She was the wife of Woody Peoples, the right guard for the San Fran ‘49’s. If this could happen in Birmingham, Alabama in l969, no telling what will be “normal” in Israel in the not too distant future. Maybe this Arab woman is the Maxine Peoples of the IAF. Our office managed to end up with an Angela Davis wannabe a couple of years later, but since she was more despised by the other Blacks than by the Whites, she didn't last too long.
30. To: Yaakov Sullivan & alike
Billy ,   Burlington, Ontario   (04.04.08)
It's actually shame on you! Why don't you leave USA & come home to defend "your" country instead of sitting 8000 km accross the Atlantic judging others! Do you think you're smarter or more knowledgable than Israeli decision makers on the groud. It's a good thing, idiot, to defuse differences between differents backgrounds in Israel. It needs courgage from her & IDF officials to do that. You're such a stupid Yaakov!
