1. Liberals should leave Jerusalem (and Israel) to the crazies
Chanalau, Tova ,   London, UK   (04.08.08)
Why any normal sensible person would want to live amogst those religious fanatics is hard to understand. There is the whole wide world out here where you can buy bread when you want, go to the shops when you want, watch a game or a movie when you want. Let the nutcases stew in their own juice.
2. They are NOT Jews, they are Christians
JPS ,   Efrat   (04.08.08)
There is no such thing as a "messianic Jew". By definition, that would be a Jew who believes in the messiah. Most Jews, by definition, believe in the coming of the messiah. Christians believe the messiah has already come. Thus, calling a Christian a "messianic Jew" does not make that person a Jew. If they believe in JC, then they're a Christian. One of the purposes of messianic Jews is to proselytize - that makes them an offense to any Jewish community they try to invade. I have no problem with Christian citizens of Israel. I do have a big problem with proselytizers and missionaries, whose purpose in life is to commit religious genocide.
3. JEWS WHO BRING OTHERS TO APOSTASY ARE THE ONLY ONES WHO
SERGIO ,   ISRAEL   (04.08.08)
ACCORDING TO ALL OPINIONS SHOULD NOT BE TREATED AS JEWS, NOT EVEN AS "tinoqoth she-nishbeu" (imprisoned children who are not responsible for what they do because so they have been taught) AND HAVE NO PART IN THE WORLD TO COME. Please, see also: "Jewish Tradition and the Nontraditional Jew"
4. #1 Glad one crazy nutcase lives in London.
Miriam ,   Israel   (04.08.08)
5. Missionaries are ILLEGAL in ISRAEL.
Miriam ,   Israel   (04.08.08)
Missionary "crazies nutcases" should go live with Chanalau Tova in London.
6. possibly the most idiotic thing I have ever heard
Matthew   (04.08.08)
""We don't care if a mosque or a church are built here, but we won't tolerate the presence of missionary Messianic Jews," Read that slowly. Read it again. These "messianic Jews," send their sons to the IDF, many in elite units. They are the foremost defenders of the Jewish State. But these fools would rather have a mosque, likely preaching incitement and vowing the destruction of the Jewish people and nation, in their neighborhood. And before you go crazy talking about "stealing Jewish souls" let me forstall you. This is a heavily secular neighborhood. 50 weeks a year most of these people could not care less about God, the Torah, or their souls. This is about bigotry. Nothing else.
7. difference beteewn Evangelical Christian & Messianic Jew
observer   (04.08.08)
you can accept 6 million $ from the first, but the second has to give the 6 million $ plus the pound of flesh.
8. Cut evil from its roots!
Keren ,   Israel-SP   (04.08.08)
Don't let it happen. Forbid this attempt. "messianic jews"are christians. Israel is a Jewish country and this must be enforced, even if BY LAW!
9. #6 Matthew - I tend to agree with you.
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (04.08.08)
While I think these "messianic Jews" are mentally disturbed religious cranks, another bizarre sect, their beliefs are their own business. But missionary activity is a sensitive subject for most Jews. Historically, we have been subject to attempts at conversion, often by force, bribery, & intimidation. This particular group is exceptionally offensive by claiming to be Jews while holding a belief that absolutely excludes them from Judaism & the Jewish people. I had occasion to know some "Jews for Jesus" lunatics in Florida some years ago. They prey upon the depressed, the mentally unstable, the psychologically weak & vulnerable, the lonely. They offer friendship & acceptance, membership in a group, as a tactic to brainwash potential members, especally those who have little or no Jewish education. This is quite objectionable behavior & parents are right in being concerned. However, the answer to this problem is in better Jewish education. By better Jewish education, I do not necessarily mean religious education - Jewish education can just as well be secular-oriented. The enemy of "Jewishness" is not in crazy sects like this but in ignorance. But you're 100% correct - whatever their crazy beliefs, these people are defenders of the Jewish state, send their children to the army - and I would worry far more about a mosque or church who often preach our destruction.
10. Lubavitch are ok but Messianic Judaism are not?
Eric ,   Tel Aviv   (04.08.08)
Both groups seem to think that the messiah has come. The first say it is their dead Rabbi and even put a fax on his grave. The second believe that it was Jesus (like Jews for Jesus). Both have missed the point to be a Jewish Messiah we need a lot to have happened: A King of the Jews (neither of the above was), Weapons of war will be destroyed, etc as described in the Book of Isaiah. The world is still at war and the Jews still have no king (although many of the other things have happened). So they are both off base.
11. #8 I agree that Israel should enforce it's laws
Tal   (04.08.08)
And in doing so, because this is a democratic pluralistic state, the same law will protect these people from the likes of you who wish to see their rights trampled. Be careful for what you wish for - it just might come true (although in ways you do not expect or want).
12. They are missionaries
Lucas ,   San Diego, CA   (04.08.08)
I met some of them, they are nice people. But they spook me out when they call themselves "believers" and they mostly come from mixed marriages. They tried VERY hard to "convert" me to their ways, very direct about it, moreso than the yeshivas. One of them told me that in 50 years Jerusalem will be mostly messianic. But as I stated earlier, they are nice people who serve in the army and love Israel. They are just a little confused as to what religion they are.
13. Messianic Christians are NOT Jews! THEY HAVE NO RIGHT
Miriam ,   Israel   (04.08.08)
living amongst us and doing missionary work here in Israel.
14. #3 = emet
Bet Chesed ,   Galut   (04.08.08)
Nothing is up for discussion, that is the truth.
15. Translation
William   (04.08.08)
Did you know the greek word 'Christ' actually is 'Messiah' in Hebrew?
16. #11 Study your own history to discover where
Keren ,   Israel-SP   (04.08.08)
lenientness has been driving you. Discipline doesn't mean lack of democracy. Democracy without right parameters is idiocy-not democracy. Intelligence and self protection are meant to be used. The lack of their use produces CHAOS!
17. EASY SOLUTION
LEE ,   NY, USA   (04.08.08)
Purchase a property directly adjacent to this new center and make it into a center for Yad L'achim who combats these people's influence with the Truth of authentic Torah. No need for violence as words of Torah will melt them away. Its the antidote to their poision. They'll be gone in a week. More about Yad L'achim: http://www.yadlachimusa.org/counter-missionary.asp
18. # 13 Miriam its called religious freedom
Simon ,   TA Israel   (04.08.08)
Just as you are free to decide your religous observnance so are they. If they wish to belive Jesus is the true messiach thats their right. Who are you to tell people what to belief or not.. Why is it that you have to force your religious beliefs on everyone else and use it as a tool for slander and judgement? Are you that insecure that you see these people as a threat? It seems what is needed here is tollerence understanding and respect for your fellow human being.
19. Zechariah 12
American Christian   (04.08.08)
10 And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn. "...and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced..." This is from the Old Testament. Who is it talking about? Who was pierced?
20. Deport them!
Wise Saba ,   Western Negev   (04.08.08)
21. CAN THE REFORM MOVEMENT MISSIONISE THEM?
ROLAND SEENER ,   LONDON ENGLAND   (04.08.08)
WHAT IS WRONG WITH OUR RELIGION FOR THEM TO PROPOGATE A PERVERSION OF OUR FAITH? ...NOTHING OR WE WILL START A MODERN DAY MORANO MOVEMENT,AND WHO KNOWS HOW LONG IT WILL TAKE FOR THESE ADHERENTS TO COME BACK TO THE FOLD. THEREFORE JEWISH AWARENESS MUST BE INCREASED,SO THAT VIGILLANTE GROUPS DO NOT FORM TO SOLVE THIS RELIGIOUS PROBLEM FOR THOSE OPPOSED OPPOSED TO THEIR INTERPRETATIONS...THE LAST THING ISRAEL NEEDS IS TO FACE CRITICISM FROM EVANGICAL SUPPORTERS WHO NUMBER IN THE MILLIONS IN THE U.S.A. AND HAVE GIVEN THEIR MUCH NEEDED SUPPORT .MAYBE THE REFORM MOVEMENT CAN PLAY ITS PART BY SPREADING A COUNTER DOCTRINE THAT WILL APPEAL TO THESE PEOPLE,AND MAKE NEW "JEWISH" CONVERTS FROM THEIR RANKS
22. Sick of all the hate in these comments
Rachel ,   Israel   (04.08.08)
I see that many here seem to be extreemely afraid of these few people? Why? Do they hate you? Do they want to destroy Israel? Do they shoot at you and explode themselfes in your midst? I am sick of reading these comments! How many of you cry about anti-semitism in other places in the world? And how do you treat your neighbours, who mean no harm to you? I wish this group of messianic jews all the best with their center.
23. What's the big problem
ys ,   Israel   (04.08.08)
All of a sudden this is a problem? Eat non-kosher, sodomize, rape, uproot, spit in the face of all that is holy, make deals to destroy us anyway - and this should be the least of your problems. Pathetic duplicitous hypocrites.
24. so what
simmelweis   (04.08.08)
christianity bungled with washing hands before eating a devastating mistake for humanity . i would be more worried for the messianic jews that they could become agnostics and lose their basic goodnesses .
25. #19- American Christian
LEE ,   NY, USA   (04.08.08)
You keep praying to the Jew. We'll keep praying to the One G-d.
26. Rachel - I'm sick of the hate in Messianic Jews
JPS ,   Efrat   (04.08.08)
I'm afraid of people who do not believe that I have the right to my own religion. I'm disgusted by people who believe that my soul will not rest until I accept Jesus. These people want to see Israel converted to Messianic Christianity. Yes, they do hate me. They hate my freedom. They hate my believe in Hashem. They do indeed mean me harm. They are the definition of intolerance. They are missionaries, and as such their goal is not to leave you alone, but to convert you to Christianity. That is their ethos, their being. And it is a clear and present danger. I wish this group of messianic Jews all the best, but before they open any center they must sign an affidavit that they will not now or ever carry out any missionary or conversion work in Israel. Missionaries are sick, depraved people who hate you so much and have so little respect for anybody else, that they cannot picture a world in which other religions co-exist with Christianity. Their goal is to convert you. They come at you with words of honey, but they do so with the purpose of taking your soul for Jesus.
27. #19
Shelly Waxman ,   U.S.A.   (04.08.08)
Zechariah predicts the coming of the Messiah for the first time. It also predicts the trigger as the division of Jerusalem by "all" the nations.
28. By all means sue and demonstrate, but please don't riot.
Sam ,   NYC, USA   (04.08.08)
Violence will only galvanize people like these. More importantly, committing violence against a non-violent enemy is an admission that one lacks the capacity to think of an intelligent argument. We must fight these snakes with our mouths and our pens.
29. #16 "right parameters" according to YOU?
Tal   (04.08.08)
Unbeknown to you, "right parameters" are already categorically delineated in Israeli law which protects the rights of people whom you detest. You might want to think carefully about what you say because you are the one on the way to breaching the sovereign laws of the Jewish state which prohibit incitement against anyone, especially minority groups. In other words, it's neither lawful nor Israeli because it matters not what you personally think the law should say, but rather what it already clearly says. To defy and breach it is to make yourself a law breaker, ie a criminal.
30. Dark elements
Brod ,   USA   (04.08.08)
Those who oppose the Center seems to be behaving like the Wahhabhists.
