31. What some here fail to understand . . .
Omar ,   Plains   (04.13.08)
is that in islam, the onus to prevent any kind of sexual assault or advance, fails almost entirely on the woman. To some islamic men, a woman traveling alone in this fashion is proclaiming to the world that she is a slut and free for the taking. In the words of Sheik Hilali in Oz, she would be considered "uncovered meat." 'If a cat comes in and eats the meat whose to blame . . . the cat ? Or the one who left the meat uncovered?' (paraphrasing). So, according to many in islam, a woman who leaves here house, and especially leaves her house uncovered and unescorted, is simply 'uncovered meat' free for the taking. This is why so many feel that she was particularly naive for attempting this stunt in an islamic country, where such doctrines are pervasive.
32. idealism untempered by realism = poor judgement

33. She was suicidal, duh...
Joe Blow ,   Kafur-fornia, USA   (04.13.08)
Suicidal tendencies...Alone in a Moslem land...Religion of Peace revealed....
34. #17 Jim - Cite a single example. On the contrary
Squalid Ibn Harman ,   Qtir   (04.13.08)
Jim, You must really be desparate if you have to resort to lies. If anything, there was an article in YNET of someone's thesis accusing Israelis of being racist because THEY DO NOT RAPE PALESTINIAN WOMEN. He wrote that it is an integral part of war for an army to rape the women of the enemy but Israelis are racist because they believe that sex with or rape of Palestinian women is repugnant. Looks like we are damned if we do and damned if we don't. But personally, I wouldn't never even consider it consider it.
35. Perhaps the headline should read..
Terry ,   Plano Texas   (04.13.08)
Perhaps the headline should read "Idoit kill self" When will Liberals learn?
36. #19 This woman was a "pacifista"I would do the same!
Yaakov Sullivan ,   NYC   (04.13.08)
this woman was a "pacifista" and she was travelling around the middle east for "peace".
37. enough of your racist babble
Sean ,   Montreal. Quebec   (04.13.08)
When the victim dies in Israel - whether an Italian law student or a British photographer- they are deemed stupid on this site and have no business attempting peace. You go on with impunity from Ynet spouting your biggotry against Islam and the Arabs. Most civilized countries have laws prohibiting hate speech. Mine certainly does. If Ynet wants to continue having the privilege to broadcast its message here it must either show its responsible to curtail this hate filled bigotry or I assure you within one year your racist rants will have no place in my country. Didn't your mothers teach you that if you can't honour the dead then just keep your gob shut ?
38. We were hoping she had been kidnapped by the Kurdish?
Tayfun_Turkey ,   Istanbul   (04.13.08)
Your hope is REALISED I never saw such an event like hoping with Etnical preference to wish her daugheter to be kidnapped by Kurdish? Was she comming with a White wedding dress to be kidnapped by Kurdish? By the way Some Kurdish tribes (yezidis) believe in SATAN (melek i tavus) as their god that is why ISraelis and some European feel sympaty with them otherwise they do not like Muslim Kurds. How do you know KILLER is muslim? Perhaps he is YEZIDI KURD?
39. #5 - Islam is a race and not a religion ..
redmike ,   tel aviv   (04.13.08)
and the world is witness to Islam's barbarity on a daily basis. Sadly only one or two brave Muslims speak out against what Islam has become in the last few centuries and they risk their lives by doing so. Muslim leaders openly speak of wanting a caliphate that governs the world by sharia, so of course non-Muslims are against Islam and they are totally justified in being so. Mike
40. #24
ora ,   Jerusalem   (04.13.08)
Islam is not a race, it's a belief system. So if I don't like Muslims, it is discrimination, but I'm not necessarily racist. I'm guessing that in this case there really isn't a connection to Islam. However, Muslim immigrants to western countries really are disproportionately likely to be rapists. Again, it has nothing to do with race. But I don't think it's too far-fetched to say that some Muslim men might be affected by certain Koranic verses that justify the rape of non-Muslim women (Mohammed himself raped a Jewish widow shortly after killing her husband).
41. As horrible as this may sound
ora ,   Jerusalem   (04.13.08)
As horrible as this may sound, she actually accomplished much more for peace this way than she was likely to had her mission succeeded. If she had managed to reach Israel intact, she would have spent a couple of weeks hanging around some Arab town and then headed back to Italy, with very few people aware of what she'd done. In her death, she's sent an awful yet powerful message about peace--namely, that sometimes it's simply not possible. Even if you are the sweetest, most naive Italian artist imaginable, there's no making peace with cruel beings who don't care about your suffering. The only thing that could have saved her was a gun, not good will. THAT is a message about peace that more Europeans need to hear. And now, thanks to Pippa Bacca, they will.
42. WILL SOMEONE TELL ME
I AM   (04.13.08)
How many women getting raped in America every year??????
43. italian peace bride raped
debbie ,   israel   (04.13.08)
Uh did I miss something here? Why was this woman hitchhiking across Turkey in a wedding gown? And alone, yet?
44. We are very sad and share your pain.
Mehmet Albayrak ,   Turkey   (04.13.08)
This is really disgusting and all Turkish people shamed of this. This is not becouse of Islam be sure. Which religion supports killing humanbeing?! Instead we should support the sincere believers. Who can argue that this disgusting murderer is muslim?
45. # 24 "Proud Israeli"
Thomas   (04.13.08)
You can bet this woman was raped and murdered because she was a non-Muslim. Muslims in countries like Belgium commit the majority of rapes and their victims are always non-Muslim and never from within their own communities. That's racist. Pointing that out isn't. It's simply the truth.
46. JEWS ARE NOT ANGELS EITHER
HANA   (04.13.08)
The indictment filed to the Jerusalem District Court on Sunday only intensifies the horror: Burning organs, pouring alcohol and scattering salt over wounds, feeding children with faeces, tying them with ropes and plastic restraints, stroking them with a hammer, breaking their teeth, locking them up in a suitcase for several days – all these charges against a mother of eight guided by a rabbi in Israel to conduct a "tikkun" on her children. Seeing the tools the mother used to abuse her children takes one's breath away. Less brutal means are needed in order to destroy concrete, in order to crack iron, than the ones used on a five-year-old boy and his three-and-a-half-year-old brother. Who did he cry out to for help, the three-year-old child, when his legs were attached to a heater for several long minutes? When they poured alcohol on his burns? When they hit his hand with a wooden schnitzel hammer? When they scorched his little fingers with a lighter? What was the five-year-old child thinking about while being locked up in a suitcase for three whole days? He couldn’t cry out. His mouth was blocked with a skullcap. It is safe to say, however, that God wasn't in there with him.
47. "Peace Bride"
Walt ,   U.S.A.   (04.13.08)
Frankly, this woman Giuseppina Pasqualino, was rather disturbed. Wearing a bride's outfit and traveling to Israel would contribute to peace? Also, I was not aware that Islam was a race.
48. Race or religion has nothing to do with it
Y.W ,   Tel Aviv   (04.13.08)
I didn't read anywhere that her murder had anything to do with him being a Muslim. I'm a Jew and a Zionist, but come on... you think religious jews don't commit rape or abuse? wake up! not everything has to do with race. She was a poor victim of a sick man - period. Not a victim or a muslim terrorist.
49. Ora #44
Sean ,   Montreal, Quebec   (04.13.08)
Dear Ora, I think you said it perfectly..."there's no making peace with cruel beings who don't care about your suffering" Though you went on to suggest that the only thing that could have saved her was a gun. Is it possible that the only thing that would have truly saved her was do exactly as what she did? I realize that to accept such a proposition one would have to be a believer and as you can judge by the mean spirit on these talkbacks, that excludes most people here. I didn't know her but I consider the possibility that she may have had no more choice than Jonah. The presence of your compassion on this sight is no less redeeming than the end of the book of Jonah. Perhaps those people who express derision at the death of this child should read it. For the second time in a week... thank you
50. some of the talkbacks are shockingly heartless
blonde shiksa   (04.13.08)
Look, a human being was raped and murdered. That should give us all pause. Regardless of what her politics were or how much sense or lack of sense she had, she didn't deserve to meet such a savage end.
51. This is a sick thread
Kursun ,   İzmir, Turkey   (04.13.08)
As Y.V. , Tel Aviv pointed out this nothing to do with muslims and christians. There are good guys and bad guys in the world. It was very naive of Giuseppina Pasqualino to travel like that. She was calling for trouble. The same thing could happen whether in New York, Berlin or any place on earth. This thread is purely racist and fascist. Look in the mirror and see the real problem!
52. Political art may be pop but isn't popular
Mike Darnell ,   Jerusalem   (04.13.08)
I lament the murder of artist Giuseppina Pasqualino. I am an artist too. I too am 33. I too believe that art can make a difference - especially popular art: Art that seeks to include the viewer as opposed to art that remains obtuse and distant. Sometimes the art gets too close. Sometimes the art pays a price. Sometimes the art dies. A few months ago one of my pop art prints was vandalized ( http://www.digitalartprintgallery.com/0/political-pop-art/kapital-socialism.html ) and I thought it was a terrible thing. I thought this was terrible because it violent and stupid and rude. I knew it was coming though - art is there to be criticized and in this case my art was purposefully noxious and antagonizing... It is because of my understanding that art is there to be criticized that I suffer time and again to comprehend how anyone could rape and slay an artist traveling across Europe in a bridal gown for the sake of Peace. This murder by virtue of its terrible circumstances becomes art criticism in its purest and most unadulterated form. Woe to all of us if this is the case and woe to all of us if it isn't. The crime is too terrible to trivialize by discussion whatever the motive. Mike http://www.PoliticalPopArt.com
53. Racist ?
stebot ,   carnnes nz   (04.13.08)
sorry there Jordan , islam is Not a race
54. Yaakov Sullivan #36, Please go to Turkey with Arab boyfriend
chanan ,   usa   (04.13.08)
and experience what will happen to both of you there. This way the world will be a better place to live in getting rid of both of you.
55. #50 Blonde Goya or Gentile - The term "shiksa" is a pejorati
Squalid Ibn Harman ,   Qtir   (04.13.08)
The term "shiksa" is a pejorative term that comes from the Hebrew "Shikutz" meaning insect with a negative conotation. It then goes to Yiddish for further adulteration. The correct term in Hebrew is Goya meaning someone of another "nation" and does not carry any baggage. In English one might use the term gentile, again a proper word meaning a Non-Jew without any politicizing.
56. I cant find any words to explain my pain
Mehmet Ali ,   Konya & Trukey   (04.13.08)
its so sad to see this happen in Turkey , i really hate to live someone who dont know human being. But they r everywhere. that s the problem we cant run away from them. Hope to see them deep in hell
57. To # 55 "Squalid"
blonde shiksa ,   aka "blonde insect"   (04.14.08)

59. to Observer in Jordan
MJO ,   Chicago, USA   (04.14.08)
You should bow out of the conversation until you can at least find the intelligence to see that Islam is a religion and not a race, hence calling Islam the barbarous ideology it is does not constitute racism. You are only proving them true with your ignorance.
60. To observer #5. Turkish people Should NOT Be Blamed.
Maansingh ,   The Netherlands   (04.14.08)
Quote :"rape and murder crimes ". You are right in saying that one should not bring in religion while describing those crimes. A rapist, a murderer, a criminal should be punished according to the law guiding that country. BUT when terrorists shout 'Allah hu Akbar' while beheading journalists ; while flying airplanes into buildings filled with innocent office-workers, office-cleaners, etc. -- we do call them by their name, namely radical islamists. And rightly so. Turkish people, Muslim people should NOT be blamed for this atrocious act. The murderer SHOULD be punished by the death-penalty -- to be carried out NOT after 20 years, but within matter of days. Rule : the punishment should be EQUAL to the crime. And THAT is called justice. IT should be not less than EQUAL.
