1. Rumors of War
Marcel ,   Florida   (04.14.08)
And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. All these are the beginning of sorrows. Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake. And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another. And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come. When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, whoso readeth, let him understand: Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains: Let him which is on the housetop not come down to take any thing out of his house: Neither let him which is in the field return back to take his clothes. And woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days! But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day: For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be. And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened. Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not. For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. Behold, I have told you before. Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not. For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For wheresoever the carcase is, there will the eagles be gathered together. Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken: And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other. Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh: So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors. Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled. Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away. But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only. But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. Matt 24
2. Syria the vassal of Iran.
Robert Bernier ,   Tel Aviv   (04.14.08)
The terrorist state of Syria has troublesome relations with the international community which blames it for harboring terror organizations and interfering in Lebanon's eternal affairs, while being strongly influenced by Iran. The Assad family has established a hereditary dynasty shored up by repression within, and confrontation and terror abroad. The rule of the Assads is not aimed at improving the lot of their people or forwarding a particular ideology. They changed ideology from secular Arabism to a seemingly impossible confection of pan-Arabism and Islamist extremism as explained at : http://xrl.us/bjcsd
3. Great idea but I doubt it's true.
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (04.14.08)
A massive American military strike on Iran would be very nice, even better if accompanied by an Israeli strike on Syria - This is what should have happened during the Lebanon war ..... Since this gov't. is unwilling to tackle even mosquitos like Hamas, I doubt if this report is anything but Syrian BS - although, of course, these people live in paranoid delusions so they might actually believe it. But, so far, it doesn't look like Bush is willing to undertake another war at the end of his presidency. I think he's more likely to leave a mess for his successor. But, one can always hope.
4. War and Syria
Richard R. ,   Buckeye USA   (04.14.08)
So everybody realizes, This is all Hype by Syria in order to say to the world we had no choice but to prempt because we felt Israel was going to attack us. Syria and Egypt did the same thing when they attacked Israel in Sept. 1973 (Yum Kipper War ) This time Syria has shown its hand and is Israel taking any Action on the ground or Air Know. Just like the bombing of Peral Harbore on Dec. 07, 1941 We new month earlier that they were coming but did nothing until it happen. This is what Israel is doing. How long are you going to allow this peace nick P. M. Olmert to stay in power? Are you going to wait till Syria Troops are sitting in Beit Shean and on the door step to Hafia. Oh my GOD Israel wake up and save our country now. The war to end all wars is coming and we need a strong P. M. now. I don't care who it is but he must have the courage to tell america to back off and the world to Peep off. We can only depend on our selfes! The world wants to see us destroyed, then the problem is gone and they don't have to deal with it anymore. If at any time is the right to bring down the Israel Goverment the time is now. Once we Put a Storng Prime Minister in the Syriian will back off. Hear Ye O Israel bring the Star of King David to the for front an let the world no we are back. GOD BLESS Israel

Invicta ,   Europa   (04.14.08)
With supporters like #4 Israel is bound to go far. Italways seems a paradox that those you advocate peace are those that shout loudest for war. Also, #4, you accuse Syria of hype inorder to say to the world that Syria had no choice than to preempt an attack on Israel. But isn't that exactly what you are advocating Israel should do. And isn't that just what the US did in Iraq? Also you really ought to learn the difference between 'know', 'now', and 'no.'
6. Terry,3#, I agree 100%
Judah ,   Golan Heights,ISRAEL   (04.14.08)
It would be much better to bite the bullet now than deal with a much more serious problem a few years down the road. We only have to look at the Six Day war compared to the Yom Kippor war. The key question is whether Bush and Olmert have what it takes. A summer war will not be easy on my family. My wife is expecting our 2nd baby in June. Our first baby was born during the last Lebanon war and lived the first few weeks of her life in a bomb shelter. My business lost thousands of sheckels as I was busy in my reserve unit in Lebanon. Yet I would rather suffer these hardships than face a nuclear Iran in 2010.
7. Get away, Marcel
Rickie ,   Porto Alegre - Brazi   (04.14.08)
Who cares here about your politheist religion? This is a jewish newspaper!

Invicta ,   Europa   (04.14.08)
'A massive American military strike on Iran would be very nice, even better if accompanied by an Israeli strike on Syria ' Why would that be 'nice'? Apart from destabilising the area even more and causing even more futile death. Also you write that Bush created a 'mess' in Iraq. True, so why start another? What will be achieved ? Nothing. It's pointless and will end up in more humiliation and failure for israel (i.e. Hezbollah) and the US (i.e Iraq)
9. #6
Invicta ,   Europa   (04.14.08)
The problem being of course that world opinion is just not convinced that an attack on Iran is justified. Iran has no history of aggression in the ME (unlike, of course, the US and Israel) Even if a US President could be convinced that attacking Iran is the 'correct thing to do' there is very little reason to believe that it would work let alone bring any benefit. Hizbollah demonstarted that a small group of organised militia can stop an army and then that army was reduced to bombing civilians. Iraq has proved to be an unmitigated disaster. And one with no end. Israelis just seems to like war mongering. It is only a few years since israel's last murderous campaign. Is it already time for another?
10. #3 and #6 Not all agree destruction is the answer
Richard ,   London UK   (04.14.08)
An Evangelical Statement on Israel/Palestine As evangelical Christians committed to the full authority of the Scriptures, we feel compelled to make a statement together at this historic moment in the life of the Holy Land. The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is near a momentous turning point. The strife has continued—sometimes simmering, sometimes exploding in terrible conflict—for decades. In the context of our ongoing support for the security of Israel, we believe that unless the situation between Israel and Palestine improves quickly, the consequences will be devastating. Palestinians—especially the youth who have no economic opportunity—are increasingly sympathetic to radical solutions and militancy. As a result, the threat to Israel's security is now greater. Likewise, the threat to America's national security is greater. Because so many of the world's 1.3 billion Muslims see America through the prism of Israel-Palestine, the longer the current situation continues, the more likely it is that anti-American attitudes, policies, and terrorist activities will increase dramatically among Muslims worldwide. Therefore we are compelled to work for a fair, negotiated solution for both Israelis and Palestinians. We resolve to work diligently for a secure, enduring peace and a flourishing economy for the democratic State of Israel. We also resolve to work for a viable permanent, democratic Palestinian State with a flourishing economy that offers economic opportunity to all its people. We believe that the way forward is for the Israelis and Palestinians to negotiate a fair, two-state solution.
11. 9#, Invicta, you are wrong on many points
Judah ,   Golan Heights,ISRAEL   (04.14.08)
1)America has a good reason to attack Iran. Iran is supplying the weapons to the insurgents in Iraq that are killing American soldiers. Why doesn't Iran butt out of Iraq? 2) Israel has a good reason to attack Iran since Iran has the missiles and soon the nuclear weapons to destroy Israel which it promises to do. 3) In the last war with Hezbollah the strategy used by Israel was poor(mostly air power). If there is a next war a much better strategy will be used and Hezbollah will be crushed. Maybe ,Invicta, you will only be happy when a nuclear missile hits Tel Aviv.
12. The book, "Prophecies in the Psalms" by JR Church
Rivkah   (04.14.08)
show that the first Psalm corresponds to 1901 in events up to the 106th Psalm which is 2006. Psalms 39 to45 describe the holocaust of the Jewish people in Nazi Germany. Psalms is the 19th book in the Old Testament. It is the 48th book counting backwards from the New Testament including Revelation. 1948 is the year that points to as the rebirth of the State of Israel. What does this have to do with a war with Syria? It is difficult to analyze the Psalms except in retrospect, but it can be speculated what Psalms 108 which would be 2008 events. Jewish scholars think it is a war for Israel when God supernaturally delivers them from from their enemies. The Lord delivers his BELOVED. Jewish scholars think it is Israel in a war.
13. the boy that wants to be a man but never will be
zionist forever   (04.14.08)
Assad knows that Israel has no plans to attack Syria allthough considering that Syria arms and supports terrorists who attack Israel an attack might be justified cut off the head the body dies. The man is just trying to talk tough he knows he is a nobody just a pathetic little optomertrist trying to live up to the shoadow of his father who was considered by the arab world one of the greats. Little Assads legacy for Syria so far Syria has been chased out of Lebanon after 30 years. Syria is now on the US axis of evil Syria still doesnt have the Golan and if our leaders look to whats good for Israel rather than political glory they will never give it up. Syria is now an Iranian puppet. Assad wants to try and look tough and wiling to take on Israel in a fight to the death but he knows that if he did decide to take on Israel just for a little glory and he lost like he knows he will then his career is over the people will rise up & overthrow him for taking the country to a war they lost and humiliating the country.

zionist forever   (04.14.08)
Judah I would like to wish you mazel tov on your wifes pregnacy. What though we do need is for a strong Israeli leadership and a US president thats actually interested in how Israel will come out of it to push Assad while he is in a position of political weakness into accepting a deal based on Israels terms. Once the Alawite regime falls as it will do and probably within the next decade the US and Israels left are going to be offering the new Syrian government the entire Golan and parts of pre war Israel as compensation to help this new government through a peace deal based entirly on Syrian terms. We cannot trust the US and we cannot trust the Israeli left who fell in love with oslo and never learn from mistakes. The right needs to start thinking smart politics not just one side says we will give the other side says we wont. The arabs know how to haggle and its a skill our leaders need to learn. We need a solution that gets Israel Assads worthless signature but Israel got the best deal now with the enemy we know rather than wait for the Syrian democracy group to over throw Assad and then we have the US doing everything it can to back this new regime and Israel as allways pays the price. We just need leaders that know how to play dirty to get a good deal for Israel.
15. Zionist Spin Article
Dovy ,   Toronto   (04.14.08)
Notice that aside from the headline the article refuses to describe what the headline means - namely that the Zionists will ATTACK Syria. How's that for some Pravda journalism?!
16. #6 Judah, Golan Hts, ISRAEL
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (04.14.08)
Hi Judah, nice to hear from you after quite some time. I can appreciate your circumstances & I commend your realistic attitude. Hardship today is better than annihilation tomorrow. Iran has brought it's presence thru proxies right up to our borders. When they have nuclear weapons, our situation will be untenable. The Iranians are playing chess while it appears our gov't. can't even play checkers. The Americans are playing a different game altogether - they are juggling hundreds of conflicting interests at once which is perhaps why their policies seem to lack coherence. But eventually, some consensus will form. From our perspective, this consensus may be too late. In fact, it might be Iranian action against us that forces America's hand. Or, it may be that Iranian interference in Iraq may force a confrontation. Mazel tov on the new arrival & Hag Sameach.
17. Richard,10#, most evangilists do not believe this
Judah ,   Golan Heights,ISRAEL   (04.14.08)
Only a minority of evangilists want a Palestinian State. Pat Robertson, Hagee and the late Jerry Falwell represent tens of millions of evangilists who are against Israel giving away any land in Judea and Samaria.
18. Invicta...
Yaron ,   USA   (04.14.08)
you continue to bless us with your astute feedback. How can someone so enlightened be so backward? Of course it is ALWAYS the Israelis who are the aggressors...would you prefer we just walk into the ovens this time? You and the ilk like you will only be satisfied if the Israelis lay down and die at the hands of your blood-thirsty comrades. I look forward to the day you are subject to a fraction of the reality that is life in the middle east.

Bill H. ,   Oregon, USA   (04.14.08)
Yes, this is a Jewish newspaper and Christ was a Jew. I rather imagine Marcel knows that.
21. dear mr assad

22. 28 and 16 vs 1.5
Dave Levy ,   Burbank. CAUSA   (04.14.08)
To Judah and Marcel: a recent study by former US generals estimated a full Israeli strike agains Iran and Syria will result in: 28 Iranian deaths and 15 Syrian deaths within 1st 3 weeks..from blast and fire. Israel's losses from a strike, 1-1.5m casualties (death and injuries). So I say, to Israel. hit Iran and Syria BEFORE, they have nuclear abilities. Get it over with. The Sec. of Interior in Israel is absolutely right..but I would pre-empt. No matter Syria's preparations, Damascus is closer to the Golan than Tel Aviv is to Damascus. Assad is, to put it mildly playing with his country's survival. Carter has not helped peace in the M.E. by asking Israel to talk to Hamas..he should stay on his peanut farm, for his peanut size brain. Remember, he lost Iran.
23. Look up for thy redemption draweth nigh!

25. Please stay, Marcel, and you, Rickie,
Abel Shoni ,   France   (04.17.08)
learn something of freedom of expression, whatever site you chose to express your opinions, however negative they may be. Truth cannot be expressed around a corner, but in large venues in daylight in order that those who will lie or make insulting remarks be exposed. You would rather take the liberty to brace your case against Marcel or me. What you said, was a little short, young man. "C'est un peu court, jeune homme." Marcel's religion - and mine - is not polytheistic. By the way, learn to spell the word and its true sense. Saying like some here Jesus was a Jew is again a little "short". We want some more. Peace be with you, Marcel, Florida.
26. Yaron, USA, well said!

27. question
josh ,   seattle usa   (05.13.08)
1) Q: why are palestinians denied the right to return to their homes after leaving the country? A: Using imagination we can see how they will be all forced out after a certain amount of time has elapsed with this policy. 2) Q: Why aren't palistinians given equal and fair representation in Isreal's government? A: There would be peace, and stability with arabs being able to stay, and isrealies don't want that. 3) Q: Why isnt a fair amount of land being offerend to the indigenous arab population, aka a part of jerusalum? A: Again it would be a square deal, and workable, which isn't going along with the plan of kicking out the people who were there first.
