One thing is very clear to me since I have been participating in talkbacks on this forum: the version of history tought in Israel and USA had nothing to do with a true history as it was. As for the properties lost during WWII and during the communism era, many forgot that Poles lost their properties too. Many also forgot that Jewish loses were covered long time ago by West Germany (indeed they paid to Israel for all the properties lost by Jewish people in Poland).

Yes, there was -- and probably safe to say, still is -- strong antisemitic tradition in Poland. Yes, many crimes were committed by Poles against the Jews. But -- and this is a very important "but" --it is also true that there were many Poles who risked and even lost their lives to help the Jews. We must never forget that either. Today Poland is the strongest ally of Israel in Europe. Many Poles today are sincere friends of Jews and supporters of Israel. Let's bygone be gone. Peace.

I am not going to argue with the merit (or the lack thereof) of Igor's post. However, I would like to point out that in the current European news media the atrocities of the II WW are attributed to some abstract and rather esoteric 'Nazis'. It strikes me that, as a German poster, Igor is eager to use terms like 'Poles', 'Ukrainians', and 'Latvians' to denote those 'brutal guards' but shies away from using the term 'German' to properly label the perpetrators of the aforementioned atrocities. I may understand the desires to sanitize the less than glorious past, but doing so while at the same time slandering the victims of your homegrown regime (those Poles, Ukrainians, and Latvians among many others) is a bit of the stretch.

Igor, you don't seem to know the history of WWII very well. Nazi Germany was responsible for the murder of 6,000,000 Jews - not Poland. In case you forgot, Poland was defeated in 1939 by Germany just 2 months after the war started. Furthermore, the majority of the first 100,000 victims in Aushwitz were Polish Christians. It wasn't until 1942, when Germany started mass execution of Jews in Aushwitz after expanding the camp. (aka Final Solution). There was no Polish guards there. Furthermore, the Polish population did not support the mass murder of Jews. If they had, then why was Poland the only occupied country in which Hitler ordered death to an entire family for anyone caught helping Jews? It is because thousands of Poles were helping Jews (See Yad Vashem memorial). Germany not only murdered 6,000,000 European Jews in WWII but also 3,000,000 non-Jewish Poles. The Polish population was not immune from German Nazi terror. You may ask why Poles didn't help more? It is because they were powerless to do so. The greatest attempt by Poles to resist Nazi occupation was the Warsaw Uprising. For 2 months Warsaw was free again....then the uprising was smashed by the Germans and over 100,000 Polish civilians lost their lives and the city was destroyed block by block. There were no gas chambers in Poland before German occupied it. Get your facts straight Igor.

Poland was the only country in which Germans imposed a death penalty to an entire family for helping Jews. Yet Poles saved more Jews than any other country in Europe according to Yad Vashem. In fact, an underground organization was specifically created to help save Jews in Poland called Zegota. After the war, Stalin put Jewish communists in top positions in the Ministry of Public Security (UB) to help take control of the country (Jakub Berman). The UB hunted down Polish Home Army soldiers after the war which fought against the Germans because they would not be loyal to Stalin. Thousands were jailed, tortured, and killed. In order to distract attention from these crimes, Jewish communists that eventually left Poland launched a smear campaign in the West accusing Poland of being anti-Semitic and it seems that many American Jews have unfortunately bought it. Poland lost 3 million Catholics and 3 million Jews. A majority of the first 100,000 victims in Auschwitz were Polish Catholics. Yet, there are no American films that cover the topic of what happened to non-Jewish Poles during WWII. And if Poles are shown, they are rarely portrayed as victims. Poles were getting killed along with Jews by the millions, many died saving Jews, yet certain Jewish groups continue to slander Poles. Also, do not confuse anti-Semitism with legitimate historical grievances.
