1. McCain Would Be Surprised ...
Christy ,   Boston, USA   (04.16.08)
.. at the support for war against Iran *IF* the US Public was certain that Iran had nuclear weapons and was going to use them. However, since many media outlets in the US seem to be making the case that we have NO REASON to go to war with Iran, Iraq or anyone else ... we won't go. Many people are slipping back into pre-9/11 apathy. I don't think the US public will wake up enough to get behind any war effort .. UNTIL IRAN FIRES THE MISSILES! Sounds horrid, I know but I don't think the US has the political will to act until some country has a radioactive hole in the ground courtesy of Mr. 'Dinnerjacket'.
2. It might not be such a hard sell.
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (04.16.08)
The facts are there, the logic inescapable - military action is the only way to stop Iran. Even the mainstream media with it's left-wing bias cannot stop a determined president who takes his case public. Iran's own statements, their own actions, make the best argument. One thing is sure, I wouldn't trust either Obama or Hillary - appeasement will only lead to more serious consequences.
3. Don't make the same mistake as in Iraq.
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (04.16.08)
No land invasion, no occupation, no nation-building, above all, no attempt to sell military action as "bring democracy" to the Middle-East. All that is necessary is to destroy Iran's nuclear installations, it's military capability, & it's missile program. Let the Iranians sort out the mess on their own - if I judge the mood of the Iranian people correctly, they'll be hanging the mullahs from lamp-posts ......
4. America will go along with a war in Iran when the 200,000+
Rivkah   (04.16.08)
Iranian insurgents IN ISOUTHERN RAQ NOW who have already terrorized the Iraqi defense forces into surrendering their uniforms, weapons, and armored vehicles go after the British and American forces in Iraq. And then there are the two battle ready Turkish army divisions on the northern Iraq border and the Syrians at the border, too. Charles Wheeling's newsletter yesterday American and British forces in Iraq AND the nation of Israel may be bombarded AT ANY TIME with hundered or thousands of rockets and missiles from Syria and Iran, etc. Daniel in the Bible saw a war starting in Southern Iraq in the area now called Basra. That is happening NOW. America and Britain are in a de facto war with Iran NOW. Ezekiel chapter 32 says a young lion country's multitude (military) and its leader will be destroyed by a sword of the king of Babylon. That appears to be Britain or America or both at this point. I can assure Senator McCain America will back a war against Iran when that happens. Sadly, America may not have the manpower to fight a war with Iran, etc. without nuclear weapons because 4,000 babies a day have been aborted for forty or more years. Many of the 50 million legal immigrants who came to America in the last twenty years do not speak English but at subject to a military draft including the 30 million more that are iillegally in America. Anciently, the city of Carthage was destroyed by Rome because they sacrificed 500 babies to the idol Molech at a time and eventually did not have the manpower to defend Carthage against Rome. That is what America is heading toward with abortions. A war with Iran will be backed by the American people when they realize what the situation is and the missiles begin to fly and terrorist cells in America do their dirty work there.
5. TERRY,YOU DIDN'T GET THE MESSAGE..#3
MAHMOOD ,   LONDON-UK   (04.16.08)
No one is intending to commit any mistakes here,Terry. You read the message incorrectly........................the message is................'I now believe it would be extremely difficult to attack Iran'. Your suggestion of attacking Iran by simply air assault is all the more plausible,Terry. In the process of doing that your cartoons will be drawn into a war that themselves wont be able to stop.Make a choice,Terry.
6. It is the job of the Bush Administration to stop Iran
Shalom Freedman ,   Jerusalem Israel   (04.16.08)
Bush is still in power. He has nine months to honor the pledge he made to stop Iran from going nuclear. If he does not , this will be seen historically as the major failure of his Administration.
7. Sanctions are a waste of time
JAy3 ,   Israel   (04.16.08)
Has sanctions ever worked? NO Iran gets what ever it needs off the black market. China and Russia will gladly supple them, to make money. Iran has publicly announced their intentions, unlike Saddam that hid them.. Looks like Israelis will have to die before any action is taken against Iran by Israel or America! What fools!

Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (04.16.08)
McCain said it would be a tough sell - not that it would be militarily difficult. In strictly military terms, America has the capability to eliminate Iran's nuclear facilities, destroy it's military, devastate the Revolutionary Guard, & damage severely the Iranian missile program. I would guess that it would take a few weeks of intensive bombing. It might be necessary to include some temporary ground incursions for specific targets or for intelligence purposes. Unlike Israel, America has the capability to do this without causing too much damage to civilian infrastructure; an Israeli strike would, of necessity, be far messier. Politically, the problem is more complex, which is what McCain said. It would be a tough sell but in my opinion, there would be enough support to carry out the mission. When a US president makes such a decision, he has many options, some would say pretexts, available to him. Any incident can be "escalated" into a large-scale conflict if the political will is present. The consequences of a nuclear Iran far outweigh the consequences of inaction. My own opinion is that an eventual conflict is inevitable. By the way, I replied to several of your comments but Ynet did not see fit to publish them. When I called Iran primitive & backwards, I was not referring to the rich & very beautiful Iranian cultural heritage, I was only referring to technological, organizational, & military capabilities. If it were my choice, since you ask, a military action against Iran would have taken place years ago. Have a nice day.
9. Israel must do the job
Frank ,   Canada   (04.16.08)
Americans have not the guts nor the will to bomb Iran.
10. "AND YOU TOO BRUTUS "(MCCAINE)?
ROLAND SEENER ,   LONDON ENGLAND   (04.16.08)
LEADERSHIP FORTITUDE AND RESOLVE OF THE U,S.A. EVAPORATES LIKE THE REST OF THE NATIONS WHEN IT COMES TO THE CRUNCH...ISRAEL ONCE MORE STANDS ALONE !
11. IN THE WRONG PROFFESSION,TERRY.....#8
MAHMOOD ,   LONDON-UK   (04.16.08)
You should be somewhere in the team of strategic choice makers,Terry!Americans have identified 200 targets in Iran..................yours is very few........add some more to make it look geniune,Terry.Ha ha
12. Unfortunately when an American President wants 2 go 2 war...
American critic   (04.16.08)
They become absolutely righteous, god-less fools who have one goal in mind to shamelessly attack innocent civilian populations in the name of bringing them enlightened democracy! Then the American presidents turn right around and for the sake of stability in this or that region they install an 'American managable dictator' Oh and Israel shouldn't be fooled American Presidents deeply believe that they have no friends only business interests! Don't believe me? Go to any history books and you will see I am right
13. Mc Cain; Hard to convince people re Iran
I.Kemp ,   Nahariya   (04.16.08)
He better convince them but like the rest of the West leaders I think he is just another "huffer and puffer". Iran can be dealt with solely from the air - no ground troops whatsoever
14. But It Won't Stop McCain!
emanon ,   USA   (04.16.08)
He learned from the best. To quote the present resident of the White House "I'm the decider". The Commander In Chief can play war all they want. They can even attempt to convince Congress to have the draft reinstated. That is what will happen if McCain is put in the White House.
15. Zionists have the best 2nd hand car salesmen
Chanalau, Tova ,   London, UK   (04.16.08)
They can sell a 9 meter high monstrosity of a concrete wall as a 'security fence' and the most evil occupation and destruction of another peoples land as some sort of benevolent return from exile. These crooked swindlers could sell anything to anyone, provided that the potential customers are sufficiently ignorant , stupid and brainwashed from birth onwards brainwashed by Zionist owned and infiltrated communications media.
16. I just read that uranium mining is being
Rivkah   (04.16.08)
increased. Invest in AMEX: UEC and do it NOW.
17. 14 emanon: That is what MUST happen regardless of who is
Rivkah   (04.16.08)
elected unless you want America more dependent on Blackwater mercenary troops. There are about as many Blackwater troops in Iraq as there are US Forces. They look alike, but the Blackwater troops are paid a lot more and are immune from prosecution most of the time. It was Blackwater troops who shot up New Orleans after Katrina and took weapons from honest citizens who needed to protect themselves with their guns. The National Rifle Association went to court to stop that.. The REAL US troops are less threatening and more law abiding since they are more subject to UCMJ, the Uniform Code of Military Justice. Sir Winston Churchill said the problem with relying on mercenary troops instead of a draft of citizens and residents is that it leads to civil war or a totalitarian dictatorship when the mercenaries turn on their masters who pay them.

I wonder how you came by such a Jewish/Israeli sounding name
19. #18 Adi
Chanalau, Tova ,   London, UK   (04.16.08)
Oh, so you don't know of any anti-Zionist Israelis? You must have lived a very sheltered life. And who I wonder gave the Zionists the role of gatekeeper for Judaism? Is there a "jew-meter" in Haifa that you can check someones' beliefs against? In favour of destroying Palestinian houses: plus 10 points; supports the settlers in Hebron: plus 15 points; believes in the right of the Palestinians to return to their own land: minus 50 points; thinks the State of Israel is itself a nakba: minus 1000 points reads Haaretz: minus 5 points reads JPost: plus 50 points
20. Chalanau#19, then STAY on "Haaretz" (yimach shemo)
Jake   (04.16.08)
You are in good company with those traitors to the Jewish People, deceivers of mankind, pervertors of truth, and unreformed swindlers and liars over at "Haaretz".
21. #17 Rivkah
emanon ,   USA   (04.16.08)
And a draft during an *undeclared war* also leads to civil disobedience when the people being drafted realize they are being singled out because they have been deemed as unnecessary to the people in charge. Go back to the 1960's and 1970's in America and the large number of African-American and Latino people drafted over a largely WASP population WITH THE SAME ACADEMIC AND FAMILY OBLIGATIONS. Which is worse for a fight force: people serving because they have no choice or people fighting because they are motivated by money? They are both equally bad.
22. Chanalau
Adi ,   Haifa   (04.16.08)
Well I understand where you are coming from. But apart from your soapbox-like grandstanding, you haven't answered my simple short question
23. Numbers
Diane ,   San Diego USA   (04.17.08)
Not sure where you get your facts, but number one there are not that many immigrants, legal and illegal in the US. Two, there is NO DRAFT and NO, they do NOT draft or accept illegals in the services. And abortions!!?? PLEASE how many lives have been snuffed out by war, and torture, and all the other things forced on our world!! Oh, and one more thing - Iran is not stupid enough to attack the US with a nuke - we have so many the entire Middle East can be wiped away - so who;s the scary bully with nukes NOW??? Open your eyes
24. Excuze me
Diane ,   San Diego CA USA   (04.17.08)
but HELLO! Do you really believe what you wrote here? You don't live in the states, cause if you did, you would realize that you are so completely wrong. No, we DONT want war with Iran we need to pull our troops out and give the country back to its people. Bush is the WORSE president ever. EVER
25. "casual" bombing
OH ,   USA   (04.18.08)
You can not just sort of casually, non-chalantly, kill Iranians with bombs. Guess what, you have American boots on the ground, in neighboring Iraq. Forget it killers.
26. mccain
wayne sumstine ,   tucson usa   (04.18.08)
it will be a lot easier to convince americans to go to war against mccain than it would be to convince them to go to war against iran.
27. War with Iran
Debbie McDaniel ,   Alameda, U.S.A.   (04.18.08)
I don't disagree with keeping Iran or any other nation from having nuclear weapons. That said, I think the reporting in this article a bit biased. The Bush administration has done everything it can to inflame the situation with Iran and then demand Iran to prove it is not persuing a nuclear weapon. This "proof" is required before Bush will talk about whether or not there is a weapons program. What incentive does Iran have with those terms? How do you prove a negative, especially when the IAEA has found no evidence of a current program. They found in fact, that the program had been stopped years before. So now Israel and USA are acting like that information isn't out there. And many of the remarks attributed to Iran's President were taken out of context. Juan Cole wrote about the "wipe Israel out" remark. About the Holocaust denial...well everyone knows that just because you say something over and over and out loud, it doesn't make it true. Everyone knows in their soul, if they think about it, the Holocaust was indeed real but unfortunately even here in America we have boneheads. I don't condone Iran's president but all this misinformation only muddies up the situation and confuses people.
28. mcCAIN
wilson ,   Hilo, Hawai'i USA   (04.18.08)
He won't have to coinvince the public of anything. He'll just do it. Who's going to stop him? So after Iran is nuked-- what then-- back to business as usual? Russia & China are just going to say "shucks, there goes our oil" ?
