1. Captured not 'kidnapped'.
Richard ,   London UK   (04.16.08)
In an exclusive interview in Damascus, Khalid Meshaal said he was renewing an offer first made to the Israelis 10 years ago. "We renew our offer to Israel to let the civilians on both sides not be a part of this conflict," he said. "We renew this offer today." Mr Meshaal, who is a target for Israeli assassination, said if Israel agreed it would not kill any Palestinian civilians then Hamas would only carry out attacks against Israeli military targets. He also gave confirmation for the first time in almost a year that the Israeli soldier captured in 2006 and held in Gaza is alive
2. The future of Meretz?
Reality Check ,   BaGolan   (04.16.08)
There is none. It is a party of the dead and of the Kapos
3. Meretz Youth are Dreaming
Dovy ,   Toronto   (04.16.08)
The other aspect of Hamas' policy is ignored by these naive youth, namely the return of all the refugees to the Zionist state, meaning the effective end to Zionism. Do they REALLY think that Hamas have become Meretz Zionists?! Perhaps the Meretz Youth also realize Zionism is doomed!! Alevay! It's alot better than can be said about so-called Haredim!
4. Braindead. What else can you say?
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (04.16.08)
5. Is this where Israel's Supreme Court Justices come from?
Marilyn ,   Alberta   (04.16.08)
6. Meretz should end its occupation of Israeli territory
Jake   (04.16.08)
7. Oslo – The price of errors.
Robert Bernier ,   Tel Aviv   (04.16.08)
The Israeli left perpetrated the disastrous Oslo accords on the people, demonstrating that the left is far from rational or scientific. It made these accords paying no heed to Clausewitz’ teachings about war and diplomacy, while it refused and refuses to realize that Israel’s Arab-Muslim adversaries have their own unique culture and character which must be understood. Likewise the West – which often reproaches Israel for alleged moral breaches, while overlooking Arab and Muslim crimes – must be understood as explained at: http://xrl.us/bi3f7
8. This is how Oslo started
eddie ,   london UK   (04.16.08)
First they praised Arafat, then made a peace with him, saying only he can bring peace. Then war and terror ensued. Now they see that Oslo was a disaster, but cannot accept that it was a mistake, so they do they same process all over with Hamas. And the Olmerts of this world will eventually take this position. The result will be the same, and they will have to bring in Hizbolla, Al Qaeda, and Iran as their new partners.
9. #1 Where is the red cross , or the international community
rachel ,   usa   (04.16.08)
to tell if he is still alive ? or in good health .....that's a kidnapping my dear sir.......
10. What CHUTZPAH
Robbie ,   Raanana, Israel   (04.16.08)
To think they can go around imagining peace instead of waiting for our messiah to come show everybody what's what around here.
11. #1
israeli ,   israel   (04.16.08)
Israel does not target civilians. Civilians get killed because Hamas (and Fatah, and Hezbollah) use them as human shields. Therefore Mashal's offer is useless.
12. Our future leaders, G-D help us.
Wise Saba ,   Western Negev   (04.16.08)
13. Exactly why Meretz is so marginal
Ken Besig ,   Israel   (04.16.08)
The Meretz Party has been in decline for the past several years and this letter by it's youth wing explains exactly why this is happening. Meretz has totally lost touch with Israelis and what they both know and believe. Meretz prefers to live in a fantasy world populated by it's own Left wing version of reality, a reality which almost no one else shares. Indeed, if Meretz keeps it up, it will end up with one or two seats or perhaps even none, in the next Knesset.
14. Time heals all heels
Gideon Reader   (04.16.08)
Treason is always rewarded appropriately. Ocasionally it takes a bit of time. Sort of like marination. However, the Jewish people are an old people, and have a sense of history. I, or my grandchildren, or their grandchildren, or theirs grandchildren will be around; and will delightedly water the flowers on the metaphoric or actual graves of the Meretznikim with the run off of our collective bladders. Shalom Achshav? Meretz? Take a middle finger, woncha?
15. The enemy within
YSL ,   LIberated Israel   (04.17.08)
16. KissAss Like AbbAss
Nabulsi ,   Madagascar   (04.17.08)
So in other words they are telling Meshaal to kiss ass like they managed to get abbass and co to do for some crums off the floor... i cannot see Meshaal falling head over heals for that!
17. #1 Let's have it your way
Sidney ,   USA   (04.17.08)
If the correct word is "captured" then there is a state of war. If there is a state of war let the Palestinians and fellow travelers like you stop whining about military actions. When the RAF destroyed Hamburg nobody weeped about the poor civilians or objected to the tactics.
18. Sounds like sedition to me
michael   (04.17.08)
Publicly supporting Hamas sounds like Sedition to me Whether it is a Arab MK like Tibi or a leader of Meretz the punishment should be the same. IMHO I think you Israelis are nuts for deciding its no punishment at all for supporting terrorism. Buy then you refuse to punish the terrorists and keep releasing them I guess you've decided not to live anymore
19. Be fair-they didn't praise him!
Duncan ,   Chicago   (04.17.08)
to be fair, they did not praise him, they merely said they were "encouraged" by one of his more moderate sounding statements (delivered in English and not Arabic, to be sure), and encouraged him to take the next step and endorse the two state solution, Naive yes, but praise, no. We need to lighten our discourse and not be so hard on each other. Meretz may be full of unrealistic dreamers, but they are no more unrealistic than those on the right who still dream of greater Israel. Remember the 2nd Temple and give your brother the benefit of the doubt!
20. Meretz-Carter
Rivka Cohen ,   Israel   (04.17.08)
They are awfully naive. Don't they know 2 facts of life?: 1) That the Arabs don't want any Jewish State in this area (or in the whole world, either)? 2)That Jimmy Carter has always been an anti-Semite? When he was a Sunday school teacher, he taught that the Jews killed JC.
