1. Rabbinical law is not recognized in Heavenly Jerusalem!!
cj ,   usa   (04.17.08)
When Yashua was crucified, the veil in the temple was ripped into 2 pieces. Thus went the way of the LAW. You Jews are now redeemed from the LAW. Now learn to live under the Blessing of Abraham and walk free of all the silly stupid man made laws that YHVH does'nt even recognize!!!!
2. how disgraceful ......shame on them . Epilepsy is not a
rachel ,   usa   (04.18.08)
disease . Where have these ignorant men been ?........Its time to bring Judaism up to date .......We now live with computers and DNA testing .....its time they use them ............. (as to #1 shut the hell up )
3. Just another attack on Judaism and on rabbis
Andras Bereny ,   Kfar Tapuah, Ephraim   (04.18.08)
4. Better off without the bum - but he should pay alimony
Karen R ,   USA   (04.18.08)
If this is how he treats her after she has had two of his children, he is obviously not a good guy, and not really "religious" - he just makes the right noises. She's better off without him - and she should definitely get alimony. After all, she didn't choose to have epilepsy. And...she should get the kids. What kind of influence would this low-life have on them?
5. The marriage obviously wasn't working
c ,   fried   (04.18.08)
He should still have to pay alimony.
6. She Should Refuse to give him a Gett
zaq ,   ranaana   (04.18.08)
heck if men can do it without recourse why can't a woman.....
7. NO SHALOM BAYIT IN THEIR BAYIT....THERE IS ...
YITZAK BEN SHLOMO   (04.18.08)
lack of shalom bayit by these dreadful ephylapsi , and it is precisely the reason these couple should be divorced. For if the goal of a marriage is to establish an island of peace in a difficult world, when a home is unpeaceful and unlikely to remain so, the marriage probably should end. HOWEVER the court is WRONG in ruling that she is not eligible for alimony. That woman or any woman is given unto life and not unto suffering. In judaism Man should not put the woman he had contracted to marriage to further a life of quiet desperation, during the marrige of after the end of sucjh marriege, as such considering the special circumstances involved in this case, per se. Rabbinate you are WRONG on this ALIMONY judgement The rabbinate ( failed )- they should have allow the Alimony .It is only fair that the judge grand the plight for alimony. It is a DEFORMITY FATAL !
8. Examine the Rabbinical Court
Shaka   (04.18.08)
It seems the Rabbinical Court Ruling a Divorce on the Grounds that this woman has Epilepcy should have their heads Examined. . . what a shame! Maybe these learned Rabbi think she should be stoned to death like back in the good old days were they found their precedent. . . This ruling sound like it could have come from the Taliban or Hamas not from Rabbis and then they wonder why the Divide between them and the rest of Israel.
9. My cousin Katie has epilepsy. She went to college and became
Rivkah   (04.18.08)
a school teacher, but could not drive a car because of the epilepsy diagnosis and medications. Her great dream was to become a wife and mother. She prayed for many years for a husband and put a pair of men's coveralls at the foot of the bed. At last, she found someone who would marry her since he was dying of cancer of the spine. They had three children and two were born with birth defects caused by the anti-seizure meds. Katie taught school and her husband took care of the children. And guess what? He is still alive and the cancer is in remission. God blessed him for making Katie a wife and mother, fulfilling her dream. This husband is throwing away the blessings God can give him for cherishing a disabled wife. Remember that Yeshua said God's strength is made manifest in weakness. Julius Caesar and Napoleon and many great men had epilepsy. It is not that bad since there are very good meds to control the seizures most of the time. The husband should reconsider what he is doing and go back to his wife.
10. Medieval Rulings
Guy ,   los angeles   (04.18.08)
Epilepsy can range from very mild to severe and can be treated often successfully to minimize seizures---Justice Roberts of the Supreme Ct in the US has a very mild form and remains on the Ct, Again and again the religious courts in Israel seem to be in sync with the Taliban.
11. Erectile dysfunction is a great deformity cured by Viagra.
Bunnie Meyer ,   Santa Monica,CA USA   (04.18.08)
When will they outlaw Viagra?
12. to #3 and just a Ridiculous ruling
I.N.Cognito ,   Brooklyn, USA   (04.18.08)
"Just another attack on Judaism and on rabbis" Well, rightly so, they obviously deserve it. While I believe in divorce, this is truly ridiculous. The guy KNEW she was treated for it. He still MARRIED her. Subsequently, he FATHERED two children with her. Now, he probably got hots for someone else and gets a divorce. Despicable! He should be ashamed of himself.

16. Rabbinical coourt forces woman to devorce because she is ill
Millicent ,   Israel   (04.18.08)
What will this backward court decide next, perhaps that cancer victims should also be divorced from a healthy spouse, orpeople with emphazima? According to this ruling any husband can divorce his wife should she develope Breast Cancer, which is found alot in the Jewish population from Europe! This ruling is an outrage and goes against Gd! Illness is not the fault of the sick person and they should not get punished for it! I wonder if a man is ill with a disease like Cancer or Epiepsy would the rabbinical court force him to get a divorce too, or would the wife have to care for her husband no matter what? After all it goes both ways...the only difference is that a woman would not abandon a sick spouse, and I doubt the Rabbis would allow her to either!

18. #16 a half full glass
(04.18.08)
more than half of Israel's population will not develop breast cancer because they are non-European Jews.
19. @17 NICE- hanashim shelanu : - ) ~
YITZAK BEN SHLOMO   (04.18.08)
20. DON'T THEY HAVE MEDS FOR EPILEPSY?
petra ,   USA   (04.18.08)
PRETTY COLD HEARTED HUBBY AND RABBI. SHE'S THROWN TO THE DOGS AND HER/HIS KIDS? NOW, I SEE WHY PEOPLE IN ISRAEL ARE SO FOR THE SEPERATION OF CHURCH AND STATE. WHAT IF HE HAD EPILEPSY, WOULD SHE BE GRANTED A DIVORCE OR, WOULD SHE OPT TO CARE FOR HIS 'TIL DEATH US DO PART'? TOO MUCH POWER IS GRANTED TO THESE RABBIS. NO PLACE IN THE TORAH SAYS THIS...
21. If any provide not for his own, he has denied the faith and
Rivkah   (04.18.08)
is worse than an unbeliever, the Bible says. Unless this man pays his disabled wife alimony, he has denied the faith. The Rabbis denied the faith, too, in allowing him to divorce his wife without paying alimony. Did she become less than human and less than a citizen for marrying and having children by a man who KNEW of her disability when they married? Is being in a car accident the death knell of human rights in Israel? A physician in a Volunteer Training Unit of the US Navy I was in long ago in San Diego who was a surgeon said he had NEVER run into a man who would stay with a wife after the wife had a colon bag operation with the feces going into a bag that is attached to her side. It smells and men divorce such women for offending their delicate noses and looking a little grotesque. The physician who was a renouned surgeon at Script's Institute in La Jolla said A WOMAN WOULD STAY WITH A HUSBAND who had the surgery and a colon bag. A WOMAN would not necessarily leave a disabled husband who had that surgery. Most women stayed on. So, I guess Solomon was wrong. He said he had never met a woman worthy of the name even though only one in a thousand males were worthy of the name MAN. Goes to show you polygamy with the one man in a thousand worthy of the name MAN should be re-instated so 999 women out of a thousand don't have to have husbands who are swine.

NYC Girl   (04.18.08)
It's incorrect to say they won't develop breast cancer because they're non-Europeans. While they may not carry the particular gene that makes Ashkenazi Jews more susceptible, there are many causes of breast cancer, some of them having to do with estrogen which, of course, is common to all women.
23. Rabinical Court
William ,   Tampa USA   (04.18.08)
Ignorance and the world laughs at their foolish beliefs. I feel sorry for the woman but with an a-hole husband like that, she;s better off. She should move out of that hellhole in desert.
24. This amn wants out of the marriage. Let him go

25. #18: ABSOLUTELY INCORRECT - why spread ignorance?
Cancer Researcher ,   Israel   (04.18.08)
Take a look at the increasing rate in Arab deaths from breast cancer, and genetic research indicating more factors are at playin Israeli cancer rates.
26. #3: Are you suggesting it never happened
Global Citizen ,   Israel & USA   (04.18.08)
or that it should be kept a secret? WHAT? If you simply wish the ultra-religious were truly as superhuman as they presume to be, that's not YNET's problem.
27. epilepsy and divorce
Susan ,   Israel   (04.18.08)
With this kind of ruling, perhaps it is now evident why so many Israelis reject orthodox Judaism.
28. WWHD
jw ,   miami, fl   (04.18.08)
What Would Hillel Do? I wonder if there are any Orthodox, learned Rabbis anywhere in the world who have the moral courage to rise up and counter this truly shameful ruling. Remember when taking your stand to stand on one foot. I challenge any Rabbi who considers himself worth his name and title to refute this. Silence would be damning.
29. Here is why Reform and Conservative movements are gaining I
kjr ,   Denver, CO   (04.18.08)
What truly sensible person would allow a divorce for such a reason? Especially, without support. Maybe the husband made big donations to the the Rabbis. Remember a week or two ago how some big shot tried to have his daughter's wedding prevented. Nevertheless, when one sees such ludicrous views upheld by halachic authorities, it is no wonder why Jews in America are abandoning Orthodoxy for more grounded viewpoints.
