2. Israeli Druze mark Syria's independence
soued ,   france   (04.17.08)
Majdal Shams sems to be lost to Israel. It was not the case in the past. This territory has been annexed to Israel. Politicians have to abstain from speaking about negociations concerning the Golan. The other druze villages seem to remain faithful to Israel. Why not organizing local referendum to measure the loyalty level?

Sheila ,   Jerusalem Israel   (04.17.08)
If Israel doesn't exist to Syria after having been ratified in the United Nations and declared a State by the majority of member states, surely that means that those countries "declared" at the same time yet have never been ratified by the UN cannot exist!

Revelation 19 11And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. 15And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. 19And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army. Mark the Word of God
10. Golan will always be a part of Israel
Ezer ,   Tel Aviv   (04.17.08)
If the Golan Druze love Syria so much, they are welcome to move to Syria. No problem.
11. Interesting, only a small number..go back to Syria
David ,   Boston, USA   (04.17.08)
Golan was always part of Israel. Most Druze are loyal Israeli citizens. If these 2,000 want to go back to Syria, but all means you may go. For those Druze who are loyal citizens of Israel. You make us proud and honored to be part of the Israeli melting pot, a Jewish state with thriving minorities.
12. we need smart politicians not left or right
zionist forever   (04.17.08)
The Golan belongs to Israel but our politicians need to play smart for once. The left all say give the Golan to Syria for a worthless peace treaty. The right say no dont give the Golan its part of Israel. The problem for Israel though is that once the Alawite regime falls probably within the next 10 years or so and if it does come to war once the war is over the people will feel Assad has led them to humiliation and it will encourage the democracy movement. What Israel needs to do is work behind the scenes with the US now on finding a way that a deal can be done with Assad leaving Israel with at least most the Golan while Syria is weak because its been shunned by the world. Now is the time to put the sqeeze on Syria into accepting a deal based on Israels terms. If the democracy movement comes to power Israels left, the US and the rest of the world will be putting all the preasure onto Israel to give everything with compensation for causing the Syrians 40 years of distress without the Golan. They will all be in such a hurry to encourage bringing democracy to Syria same way today Abbas wish is Olmert & Bushes command because they say he is a liberal not Hamas the Syrian democracy movement would be considered not Assad.
13. #1: These Druzes are free to move to Syria
Moshe   (04.17.08)
14. Can you blame them for celebrating?
Etoile ,   Montreal, CAN   (04.17.08)
Israeli governments, from the right to the left, have always entertained the idea that they will give away the Golan Heights to Syria. The so -called annexation by Israel is worthless. These Druse are simply covering their behinds if tomarrow they find themselves in Syria, with their loyalty being questioned. As soon as Israel makes it perfectly clear that they will not give away the Golan under any circumstances, as well as stop engaging in other suicidal acts, I can assure you that you will see a dramatic decrease in these types of pro-Syrian activities. The choice is yours Israel. Would you rather retain the military safety and the economic prosperity that comes with the Golan. Not to mention gain thousands of good and loyal allies? Or would you rather give it away in a sick attempt at suicide?

The Golan belongs to Israel it allways has and was never supposed to be part of Syria. After the break up of the Ottaman Empire which most the Middle East was part of the British & French were given mandates by the Legue of Nations and these mandates were to oversee the creation of new states including what became modern, Syria, Lebanon and Israel. The Golan was under British mandate to be part of the jewish homeland as was all of what became Jordan. What eventualy became the modern state of Iraq was a series of provinces the British had most the French had Mousal. The British oil companies wanted Iraq to drill for oil so the British illigaly tradeds the Golan with France who had the mandates for the creation of Lebanon and Syria. So when France creates Syria in 1946 they give them the Golan and of course the thousands of dunams & jewish settlements paid for by families like the Rotshchilds for the early zionists no compensation was ever paid to jews it all just became part of Syria as did the Golan which should have gone to the jewish state. Jordan also was supposed to be part of the jewish homeland but the British created it for the arabs who were agains the Balfour Decleration so an arab state was created in 80% of mandate Palestine by brining in a Heshimite prince from Saudi Arabia. The druze are not arabs they have no real loyalty to Syria but they do have family living there who ended up on the wrong side of the fence after 1967 but give them a choice between having their families and living in an Israeli controled Golan and having their families living in Syrian controled Golan allmost all of them would go with Israel .. they get a much better lifestyle in Israel than they could in Syria especialy with the Alawite regime running things.
19. re 18, all mandates are illegal occupations
Sayid ,   Sweden   (04.17.08)
When Golan was ceded back to Syria it was correcting the mistake of putting it together with Palestine in the first place. Geographically and Historically, the Golan is Syrian. (Houran area in South Syria) And Palestine is Palestinian. Israel have no right to exist. The Ashkenazis have no right to one single centimeter of Arabic Semitic land in the middle east.
20. re 15, you are not a Swede!
Sayid ,   Sweden   (04.17.08)

zionist forever   (04.17.08)
Sayid After the break up of the Ottaman Empire the Legue of Nations forerunner of the UN was given mandates to take the various provinces of this empire and create indipendent states. The Legue of Nations plan for the jews was a jewish homeland in all of Palestine otherwise known as biblical Judea and the Golan was part of that land as was all of Jordan and parts of modern day Syria and Lebanon. The British & French created through their mandates a series of states in artificially create borders. Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Israel all modern states created in artifical borders. Even as far recently as the 1960s and 70s the UN has been creating arab states which have never existed before in artifical borders The islamic state of Pakistan was part of India untill 1947 when the country was divided by the British. There has never been an arab state of Palestine before the idea of that began with Arafat & the PLO before the land they want their state to exist in is Judea and Samaria again historic jewish land. Any early map of the 20th century will name what they today call the West Bank Judea and Samaria the historic name for it untill modern times. The Golan was supposed to have gone to Israel. if the state of Israel has no right to exist then the same must go for all these other artificialy created and failed arabs states. It was jewish land 2000 years ago, and its jewish land today the arabs never had any right to the Golan. RAMAT HA GOLAN BELONGS TO ISRAEL TODAY AND IT BELONGS TO ISRAEL FOREVER.
22. re 21, The League of Nations had no right to plan
Sayid ,   Sweden   (04.17.08)
a jewish homeland on other peoples land. The Golan was always part of Greater Syria, THE GOLAN BELONGED TO PEOPLE BEFORE any jew walked in there 2000 years ago,, and after the short period of time of jewish presence, it once again dident belong to any jew. and the jews that for this short period of time lived there 2000 years ago have nothing to do with todays israel, or israeli jewish people. Once again, look at a map the Golan is a part of the Hauran in south Syria. Geographically and Historically it is rightfully Syrias, and not zionist colonal entity.
23. #22, Syria won't even recognize Lebanon
Jake   (04.18.08)
They refuse to allow an embassy to open there, or a Lebanese embassy to open in Damascus. Syria does not wish to establish diplomatic relations with the "brotherly Lebanese". Also the Palestinian and Lebanese groups they host and support are only those which either promote a Greater Syria agenda or are fully dedicated to the destruction of Israel. Also look how Syria, "the beating heart of the Arab Nation" behaved during the Iran-Iraq war. They supported Persian Islamist Iran against a fellow Arab country, Iraq, ruled by the same pan-Arab nationalist Baath party. Are you guys for real? If this is the way you behave to your Arab brothers, we can only imagine how you would behave to your cousins, if you have the upper hand.
24. #22 It is not 2000 years ago-it is 3200 years ago!
Keren ,   Israel-SP   (04.18.08)
