Bunnie Meyer ,   Santa Monica,CA USA   (04.18.08)
abuse of other passengers after 9/11 reflects his lack of concern for his fellow man. It is good to pray, it is not just to disrupt the plane. He has an obligation to G-d and also to obey just laws and not abuse the people around him. Does he think G-d would not understand that he was obeying a lawful order, is he that self-centered?
2. Attendants were right
Phillip ,   NYC USA   (04.18.08)
This man should have prayed before boarding the plane. Once on board pasenger needs to listen to the flight crew instructions. Prayer needs to be personal and not done on a plane which is has limited space.
3. Where was He?
Semper Fi! ,   San Diego, USA   (04.18.08)
I don't want to be blasphemous, but I'm just wondering were was G-d when this moron was removed from the plane. Having just made his prayers to Him, couldn't He protect his consciencious individual? I wonder... Happy Passover anyway!!!!
4. If hed been Muslim he'd be in Guantanamo Bay already
Chanalau, Tova ,   London, UK   (04.18.08)
Only Jews consider themselves above the law; where was the Air Marshall I wonder?
5. The flight attendants were correct!
Ami Israel ,   Jerusalem   (04.18.08)
Some I repeat SOME religious airplane passengers are so overly concerned with their religious obligations to God that they completely forget and ignore that while Ben Adam L'Makom (between man and God) is important the most important value is Ben Adam L'Chavero (between man and his fellow man/woman) and where non-Jews are concerned the value becomes even greater as there is a responsibility to present Judaism as a light onto the nations - ok its a bit trite but it is true! :) On El Al, the old Tower airlines and Israir, I have seen flight attendants put up with whole makeshift synagogues in the back of airplanes 'davening' (praying) loudly while other passengers are trying to rest or sleep. I have always wondered why it is that Ashkenazi Orthodox Jews who generally pray in "mumble mood" find it necessary to pray in a "top of their lungs" mode when they are on plans...what is it with this particular dafka?! I was recently on a flight where the captain of the plane asked passengers to return to their seats because their makeshift synagogue had caused a serious weight shift to the back of the plane! Oye Va Voy! I really do wonder about us sometimes! This fellow was lucky that United Airlines didn't see fit to file a complaint and fine him!

8. Yet another chillul Hashem story
David Yashar ,   Cleveland, USA   (04.18.08)
Obviously, this moron missed shiur the day derech eretz was taught. His friends who were with him are equally ignorant. Chillul Hashem is a greater sin than interrupting Shemoneh Esreh (I assume that's where the idiot was up to in his davening). A similar thing occurred on a Continental flight to Israel. A bunch of Satmars got up to daven Maariv just as the dinner service was beginning, causing a big disturbance and inconvenience to the crew. The crew asked that they wait until after dinner. There was no time problem with the davening, but they ignored the announcement. I heard an attendant say, "I'm never working this route again; I've had these problems too many times." Very nice.
9. Actually "Chanalau Tova", Jews don't have a track record...
Meir Abu ,   Jerusalem   (04.18.08)
...of hijacking and blowing up airplanes in the name of G-d. Your boyfriends, on the other hand, do. It's not that we're above the law, we just choose to abide by it....You should have a meaningful Pesach, and allow the kedusha of the chag to take you out of whatever mitzraim it is that's making you such a grouchy, unpleasant pain in the ass. Chag Sameach, and tell Ken Livingstone Israel says hi.

13. DON'T FLY UNITED!
Robert Goldman ,   cooper city Florida   (04.18.08)
PLAIN AND SIMPLE. JUST DON'T FLY UNITED! If you are treated poorly in any service just take your money elsewhere! There are other airlines in the world and with this screwed up economy I'm sure they would gladly accept new passengers. and nothe crew wasn't right they put him off the plane before the loading was done and they went overboard because of the BEARD and the Praying..... seems like they need a little extra training..
14. Both wrong
Serge ,   Antwerp, Belgium   (04.18.08)
This man should pray before boarding, or pray from his chair. This is a plane with limited space. Besides he should not have been removed from the plane as he finished his prayer and could go back to his seat.
15. Praying before, during & after flights
M. Hartley ,   Atlanta, US   (04.18.08)
When I get on a 'plane these days, I'll take praying from anyone I can get it. If they didn't bring any real big snakes, I'd even settle for a couple of Holy Rollers flopping down the aisle. You never know to whom god might listen on any given day.
16. Here is the better question no one else has asked...
Amir ,   NYC, NY   (04.18.08)
"Two friends, who were seated, tried to tell the attendants that the man couldn't stop until his prayers were over in about 2 minutes," BUT the United airline spokeswoman Urbanski said, "flights cannot depart if all passengers are not in their seats, which risks a delay" LET ME ASK, what caused a longer delay?? The two minutes he'd take to finish praying and sit down, or would it take longer to summon a guard to come all the way and get him and his stuff and to then escort him off the plane?? Which would cause a longer delay?!

...and why not? One of our boys is a God for many...:-)))
19. HE WHO WANTS TO PRAY CAN DO IT IN HIS SEAT
Jorge ,   tegucigalpa   (04.18.08)
Praying is personal, not a mechanical ritual, that is precisely the problem with the Orthodox, for them the ritual is much more important than the content, what goes into their mouths, instead of what comes out. Time has stood still in their mentality, therefore have become intolerant.
20. Praying,near the lavatories(toilet) a disgrace
bershad   (04.18.08)
better not pray at all

I suspect the point was this: if the man would not follow the instructions of the cabin crew even before taking off how were they to expect him to follow instructions once they were in the air? Maybe they were a bit harsh (maybe...) but they also have an obligation to the other dozens (sometimes hundreds) of passengers, not only to be on time, but to provide a safe enviroment. I am sure this guy was no danger to anyone, but if a passenger cannot follow orders it is best not to take the risk.
23. everyone should say their prayers before getting on board
(04.19.08)
24. hmm, a question..i
(04.19.08)
if when you start, you cant stop till your finished praying; what if when you start, theres a fire on the plane, and the plane riskd exploding....do you still keep praying? \ anyway, this is just like those muslims praying in the plane. the muslims praying style seems to scare people more, lol. i wonder why these people cant atleast pray before boarding the flight, or atleast after the plane is in the air.
25. #19: Brilliantly put. Thank you.
