Israel has been continually pressured by a dubious friend into a restrained aproach in dealing with their enemies. The U.S. has limited Israel's response and Israel cannot say no to their 'good friend' nefarious interference in their ssurvival and security. When the U.S bully president and his Secretary Rice along with the puny French arranged the UN ceasefire which rescued Hezbollah from certain defeat by the IDF ,P.M Olmert capitulated to U.S. pressure to rtetreat the IDF at the Litani River . To aid and comfort her Arab allies the U.S. hinders Israel from victory over Hamas,Hezbollah and the Palestinian Jihadists. Israel is unprepared for the scenario of saying no to gross interference by the U.S.

To Marcel: I agree with your comment. The US is in fact playing a dual role, a friend of Israel, while being a friend of the Arabs. It is, like Israel, confused as to the overall M.E. conflict. This is plainly clear in Iraq., with it's twists and turns in US policy. On the one hand we defeated Saddam and sought to bring Iraq into our orbit (it's about oil). However, to appease the Arab world, we stopped short of defeating Saddam in 1991 and are uncertain about our goals now. We are against Iran's nukes, but do nothing about it. We preach to Egypt, but do nothing. We support a radical Saudi Arabia and yield to their power over US. Israel is in a quagmire..it must placate it's only powerful supporter. It's playing a holding game. It did fail terribly in Lebanon to end Hez once and for all. It will pay a price for decades. It had the opportunity, but yielded to Arab influence over US. Israeli Jewish AND (US) lives are paying for it..plus our pockebook. Israel boasts of preparedness, but cringes when faced with two-bit militia like Hamas and Hez.

" Israel does not have to placate the U.S. Because Israel's leadership are all vertically challenged faithlless fools they know nothing else but capitulation to this friend turned bully. Even Egypt, and the Turks have learned to say; No ! Israel has become cowardly and fearful and therefore has become a willing slave to US trampling of their sovereignty. How pathetic Israel has become,instead of turning to Hashem ,Israel gets on her knee's to bray to Washington and wait for permission to defend themselves,always accepting the NO of Bush for permission to defeat Hamas. The U.S. has changed from supporter to destroyer. To push Israel to surrender land for nothing but more jihad under the gusie of freind ,ally is worse than the most treacherous evil ypou could imagine. I believe most Jews are in a deep state of denail over this and cling to the illusion you stated. The U.S. support is holding the noose around Israel's neck and tightening it swoly instead of quickly .The end result is the same.
