1. When an old news becomes today's news!
Enzo ,   london,uk   (04.24.08)
Why do we have to wait FOUR YEARS for news like this one? Look for yourself: "Tuesday, May 18, 2004 A North Korean missile shipment to Syria was halted when a train collision in that Asian country destroyed the missile cargo and killed about a dozen Syrian technicians." Could you kindly pass MY news to Syria's UN Ambassador Bashar Ja'afari who, as you report here, says that " ''We said it many times in the past. There were no Syrian-North Korean cooperation whatsoever"! With all my love as always...
2. To summarize: Syria's signiture on a treaty is worthless
Ilan ,   Ariel   (04.24.08)
The Arabs have made a 'big deal' that they have signed international agreements, but the their signature are worthless. That is why Israel will always see a possible a nuclear or chemical weapons attack. You just can't trust them.
3. 'Syrian reactor was weeks away from being operational'

putting Syria in breech of an international nuclear nonproliferation treaty
6. the Purported nuclear reactor
gadees ,   vanco.   (04.25.08)
The crux of the matter here is not whether Syria has in fact a nuclear reactor or not,its the Israeli act of agression against a sovereign state. When Hezbollah openly declared his intention of capturing some Israeli soldiers to revitalize the prisnor's exchange process,Israel was offended and considered Hezbollah's move an act of war.The ensuing events showed how ignorant and stupid Israeli intelligents were when it came to facts and credibility. To make their aggression worth regaining some credibility back after the humiliated defeat,Israeli intelligents poped up with the Syrian nuclear sight in a deserted area with no fence nor a guard to welcome the Israeli visitors. Its with regret that we observe the Israeli behaviour posing as a world nuclear watch-dog when in fact its a major violator and non-member of the non-proliferation Treaty. Israel maintains a mysterious nuclear record which makes her one of the most dangerous threat to the world. The US however, knowing how limited its role is becoming, is trying to revive its supremacy on the Korean front and at the same time sabotaging any chance for peace that may materialize without US involvement.

11. to #4, 6 and 7
R.Alkalai ,   USA   (04.25.08)
In all the years that Israel has had nuclear weapons, she has never threatened anyone with them. She has, in fact, had plenty of occasions to use them, as she has been frequently threatened, and attacked since 1948. You seem to forget, the Jews invented the bomb when you people were still marveling over the flush toilet. Israel now has technologies far more advanced and beyond anything you are even aware of. ,Iran has threatened Israel with nuclear weapons, as has Hezbollah. You can spin your propagnda all you want, and you can keep lobbing missiles at her. But understand, there could come a day when you will have pushed this hatred of Jews, 1 step too far, and find that your worst fears can come true.
12. Good Bye Damascus.

Tahl ,   Israel   (04.25.08)
gadees - how much nonsense can you write in one post? Hizbollah indeed committed an act of war, by invading Israel, and taking Israeli hostages. Hizbollah was the provocator, initiated a war, which fully deserved Israel's response. This point is very clear, and cannot be argued. Let's continue. The hostages were no threat to Hizbollah. They were not shooting at Lebanese citizens across the border, they were not planning to launch any kind of war. They were only patrolling the border to ensure Israel's safety. The nuclear plant, in contradiction - was a very clear and present danger to Israel, as well as the entire Middle East, or the world for that matter. While I agree that Israel's bombing of this site was also an act of war - this was clearly necessary, just like Israel's strike at the Iraqi plant at the time. Even dimwitted, delusional leftists, and Israel-haters like you in Canada, would be peeing in your pants, when rogue Arab regimes get nukes. Not so with the stable, responsible, West-friendly Israel. We need our nukes for deterrence only. Without it, we would be a sitting duck for our neighbors, who keep threatening to wipe us off the map. Trust me, being a Western democracy stuck in a tight spot like this, in the middle of Arabia, you would NEED your nukes. It's understandable that since you hate Israel, you state that it's "one of the most dangerous threats to the world".... But deep down, you're not afraid of us. You know where the real threat lies. Deep down, you don't want to see Muslims with nukes. Trust me, you don't. And the reason the nuclear plant had no fence or guards around it, was very simply, to remove any suspicion. A very good strategy, by the way, by Assad. Too bad for him, though, that our "stupid Israeli intelligents" (to quote you) revealed his dirty little scheme. Clearly, our Intel regained a lot of prestige in this brilliant operation. Only a truly demented leftist, or an Arab, can spin this story against Israel and the US... Which one of these are you? Tayfun - I truly envy you. Obviously, you have excellent sources of such top-secret information - knowing exactly how, where and when a country would strike another... I hereby nominate you as a senior Intelligence officer, I believe you would have a lot to contribute to NATO or the US or whichever country you choose, with your truly amazing knowledge.

15. Syria and the Assad family.
Robert Bernier ,   Tel Aviv   (04.25.08)
Israel cannot be reconciled with the Mafia regime of Assad. Syria will wait till the moment that it sees chances of defeating Israel. Syria cannot efford good relations with Israel. The Assad family has established a hereditary dynasty shored up by repression within, and confrontation and terror abroad. The rule of the Assads is not aimed at improving the lot of their people or forwarding a particular ideology. They changed ideology from secular Arabism to a seemingly impossible confection of pan-Arabism and Islamist extremism because it was expedient to do so. Hafez Assad came to power following a dizzying succession of coups that had made Syria the most unstable regime in the Middle East. The Assads are seated atop a bucking bronco. They are members of the Allawi religious minority who are usually not even considered to be Muslims. They rule a country of disparate minorities with a potential for chaos almost as great as that of Iraq. The radical Muslim Brotherhood is always there, threatening to take over the country by fair means or foul, and the usual Ba'th party rivalries that have plagued all such regimes are also a threat to Assad family rule. Their rule is not about improving living standards for Syria. Syrian living standards have fallen behind the none-too-glamorous ones of Jordan or Egypt. It is not about democracy, a Western luxury Syria can't afford, according to Bashar Assad. The Assad regime is about stability, and it is about money and power for the Assad family. The regime is comparable in every way to the fictional Corleone Mafia family. Prosperity and peace would ruin the Assad regime. Therefore, Western assumptions that Syrian leadership must want peace and prosperity are mistaken, and it is pointless to "engage" Syria in dialogue except insofar as it is possible to confront them with their violations and insist that they mend their ways as explained at : http://xrl.us/bjcsd
16. #7 what about Turkey's role?
observer   (04.25.08)
the Israeli warplanes which hit the site got rid of fuel tank on Turkey's territory. The Turkish PM swallowed his announced complaint of sovereignty violation as soon as he realized that pilots would get rid of fuel tank only before the attack, NOT after. Is it the guilt which drives Turkey to mediate in the peace talk on Golan?
