Secular Zionism is what created the State of Israel and what has kept it from being overrun by its enemies. So to denigrate their efforts is really very unfair since many of them have given their lives fighting in Israel's wars, and probably the majority of them weren't "God-fearing."

Party Queen ,   IsRaEl   (05.04.08)
Let's get the party started! Let the Haredim sod off to another country, we are better off without the spongers.
34. #27 Not prayers alone but with learning Torah
Miriam ,   Israel   (05.04.08)
In the days of King David all Jews were religious, the army consisted only of religious G-d fearing Jews and males only. King David, the author of Tehillim (Psalms), the pious Jew, was able to overcome the big hero, Goliath. Another example is the Chashmanaim, and there were many more instances were the few conquered the many. And they won the wars because they had special siyata Dishmaya (Heavenly help), unlike in our days, when the IDF and the government believe in "kochi ve'otzem yadi" and don't even bother mentioning G-d's name or ask for Heavenly assistance. How can Israel have won the tiny 2nd Lebanon War when the Chief of Staff was the famous atheist Yaalon? The Torah (Devarim (Deuteronomy) 23:15) clearly states: “For Hashem, your G-d, walks in the midst of your (military) camp to rescue you and to deliver your enemies before you so your camp should be holy, so that He will not see a shameful thing among you and turn away from behind you”.

If you blame the fact that Ya'alon was an atheist for the outcome of the 2nd Lebanon war, how might you explain the fact that Israel won the 1967 War in only six days? After all, at that time, Rabin was the Chief of Staff and he certainly wasn't religious either.
36. 'Zionist' snacks
Yehuda Kahana ,   Jerusalem-NYC   (05.04.08)
A little "Truth in Advertisment" please- there aren't 7,500 families that belong to the "Ultra-Orthodox" that advocate a boycott - if you can dig up 750 I'l eat my black hareidi hat. (But not my Borsalino.) Those guys are fringe waco's. And you guys have an agenda - to blacken the blacks who want to live in harmony with all their bretheren. Lumping us together in one cholent pot is a willful distortion by your news outlet of the position of 20% of the Jewish population of this Land-the religious.

did our families before and during the Holocaust not pray and learn Torah [ not all of them , but a vast quantity did it ] ? did it help them ? No , six million times NO . So stop believing this BS
38. # 3 Too right Simon. Chag Sameach
silent majority ,   Israel   (05.04.08)
to all Am Yisrael - including our haredi brothers and sisters. Should I do two greetings separately: one for the brothers and one for the sisters? :)
39. Limited Boycott
Jerry ,   Eilat, Israel   (05.05.08)
The only thing that these righteous rabbis do not boycott is the subsidies that keep them and their yeshovote going.
40. #37 The Holocaust started in Germany
Miriam ,   Israel   (05.05.08)
where intermarriage was rampant. Have you forgotten that about 80 years ago the Torah was sadly put on a back burner while the Haskalah movement had gone out of control throughout Europe?
41. To Haredi Leadership. You Can NOT Punish.
Maansingh ,   The Netherlands   (05.05.08)
Quote :"All those who fear God ..". The Haredi leadership SHOULD teach their followers to love God. To fear God -- this STUPIDITY should NOT be taught. Quote :"Whoever transgresses these prohibitions will be ... (severely punished) ". To the Haredi leadership : you can NOT punish the followers. WHY not ? Because the followers are NOT your followers -- they are the followers of Yahweh, the Supreme Lord. The followers are the possession of Yahweh, the Supreme Lord -- they are NOT your possession. IF you, i.e. Haredi leadership, think they are your possession -- that means that you, i.e. Haredi leadership, are behaving like a mafia club. You are NOT supposed to do that. You are supposed to preach to your followers about Yahweh, the Supreme Lord, by using logic, reason and argument -- not by threatening with punishment. CONCLUSION : To punish -- that is NONE of your business.
42. To Miriam #34. IF One Is Taught.
Maansingh ,   The Netherlands   (05.05.08)
Your quote :"For Yahweh, the Supreme Lord, walks in the midst of your (military) camp ..". IF one is taught to love Yahweh, the Supreme Lord -- it will be easier to see Yahweh. IF one is taught to fear Yahweh -- it will be VERY difficult to see Yahweh, the Supreme Lord. BTW also the Haredi youth should be engaged in IDF service in protecting Israel and her borders. BTW anyone, even an Haredi, who endangers the security of the State of Israel should be punished by the Government of Israel.

44. Slanderous accusations
Av ,   Bet Shemesh Israel   (05.05.08)
I red with dismay the disgracefully scandlous and baseless accusations against the haredi community. Your article says "The Haredi community" boycotts all items that have Israeli flag on. It then continues to say that the community numbers 7500 families. It's obvious that the writer has no idea who is Haredi! There are a good deal more Haredim than 7500 families! The community the writer is talking about is a minority of the haredi community and certainly can not start off the article with the crazy statement that "THE" haredi community is boycotting snacks etc. If you don't know what you are writing about then don't write.

Yes , the Holocaust started in Germany , where many got intermarried . But , were the Millions of True believing Jews of Poland , and other countries guilty for this ? Why had they to suffer ?
46. Idolatry?
SteveMD2 ,   Annapolis, MD, USA   (05.06.08)
The haredi have their own idolatry - the two scrolls written 4000 years ago. It is all the same. They make me ashamed to be Jewish, but I can fix that at least.
47. #20 Miriam
Chani ,   Modiin, Israel   (05.06.08)
Yes, Torah and Tefillah and Mitzvot protect the Jewish People and our Holy Land. The community I belong to respects and supports Torah learning, prays regularly and devoutly, and has yiras hashem. They also work, pay taxes, and serve in the army. I am Chardal - Chareidi dati leumi, a growing society of Torah observant Jews who can proudly look into the eyes of any Chareidi or Chiloni Israeli. And our children cannot accuse us of hypocrisy.
48. It's the Heart not Smartphones
Ruth ,   Jerusalem   (02.19.12)
Temptation originates in the heart and in the mind. Banning celebrations or phones is not the issue. Where there is a desire and a will, there is always a way!
49. Prayers of the Haredi
Ruth ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (02.19.12)
Please don't forget the millions of Christian Zionists who pray daily for the peace of Jerusalem. it is not the prayers of the Haredi, but the faithfulness of God who keeps His eye on Israel. He will not forsake His word. Give Him the credit not the prayer-ers.
