1. This sounds like a fair trade
YMBMY ,   Modiin, Israel   (05.05.08)
"Olmert promised Abbas that Israel would allow the crossing of goods and supplies necessary to the population. On their end, the Palestinians mentioned the successful deployment of 400 Palestinian officers in Jenin, as a basis for continuing cooperation." In other words, we give you food and clothing and you give us... no wait, you give yourselves - more guns.... Ehud, how about you give me your (undeserved) Prime Minister pension and I give you another investigation. This sounds just as fair as your deal...
2. palestinina border is beyond East Bank of Jordan River
David P. ,   sf, usa   (05.05.08)
there is nothing to discuss, the Arabs have all of Arabia and the Jews have Israel.
3. Abbas & Ohlmert
leon ,   Grand Rapids U S A   (05.05.08)
And so they talked : blah blah blah.....
4. Major progress achieverd
Nora ,   Tel Aviv   (05.05.08)
Olmert is selling Israeli settlements for nothing and this is called "Major Progress"? Mazuz, quick, before it is too late, stop this man Olmert by indicting him for good. Chances are that out of his five criminal files, one would be enough to send him to prison.
5. sure ! in order to stay olmert give the country ....
jewish israeli ,   jerusalem   (05.05.08)
we shall celebrate with champagne the day when olmert and his friends go to jail !
6. It was successful
Chai ,   Malah   (05.05.08)
is another word for nothing happened.. the Palestinain dream is dieing very slowly like the British government (and maybe equally Mr Olmert's). Get real.. the only future lies in a United Palestine Jordon or evena Confederation of The East Medit. Nations which includes Jordan, Palestine, Egypt and Israel. Within this Union, a Jewish state and modern secular Muslim nations work together with good trade agreements, unified medical units, education policy for the good of us all. This is the only way forward, a Multilateral move. The Jewish state can exist aside a unified Arab confederation. We have to stand tall and strong, Jerusalem can only be the Jewish state's capital with Ramallah the capital of the West Bank region and Gaza going it alone within the confederation.
7. Does Olmert know where the Jordan River is?
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (05.05.08)
Because that's where the border is between Israel & the Palestinian state of Jordan. Evidently, our unelected viceroy from the US gave Olmert his orders & he is diligently carrying them out. There's somewhat of a rush - Olmert would not like to conduct meetings with Abbas from a prison cell where he belongs. So where are these borders & why aren't maps made public? Is the border a secret, just a big surprise to spring on us later. Is the agreed border the separation fence? Why not just say so? What about the Jordan valley, necessary for our defence? How many Jews will be forced to leave their homes? Lots of unanswered questions. But, we're only citizens so who cares what we think?
8. What is Olmert still doing here? Shouldn't he be joining
Miriam ,   Israel   (05.05.08)
BenIzri in his cell? Oh, I forgot, he's not Sephardic and not religious, so he can stay at his position - cause he's immune.
9. tainted leaders making existential decisions
bernard ross ,   st anns bay, jamaica   (05.05.08)
It appears that a constant succession of corrupt leaders are making existential decisions for Israel. These leaders are subject to blackmail and extortion from the cia and others. This is why we see these leaders withdrawing from lebanon, gaza, and dismantling security checkpoints. When the US talks these politicians must jump or else their scandals will be published by the cia. Is Israel so corrupt that they cannot find untainted leaders.
10. We need major protests on Yom Haatzmaut
Millie ,   Israel   (05.05.08)
This should be the right celebration. Not lots of singing and dancing. We should all take to the streets to call for the end of this corrupt and morally bankrupt government. Then we can celebrate.
11. Interesting Timing
G ,   US   (05.05.08)
Right after another charge is leveled at the PM he comes up with substantial "progress". If the situation were that he was ready to go to jail no doubt he would say the PA and Israel have concluded peace. He would just sign Whatever the PA put in front of him at that time.
12. ohlmert-abbas
sas ,   israel   (05.05.08)
don't believe a word. ohlmert wants to have a reason to stay in power. he'll do anything to remain in that house - even sell his sweet wife and children.
13. #9 it is almost laughable that you think leaders wield power
dp ,   sf, usa   (05.05.08)
these figureheads are subject to the same constraints and restrictions as any leader would be, tactics you've mentioned are used to dispose of them when they've become stale and defective, only to be replaced by a similar but upgraded version to fill the vacuum, untainted
14. Leadership(?) out of touch
Ofer from Ofer ,   Israel   (05.05.08)
Olmert is apparently unaware that after the fiascos of Oslo and the withdrawl from Gaza very few Israelis still believe in the fairy tale of land for peace. There is no way that anything involving a large withdrawl and dismantling of Jewish communities will be accepted by the population at large.
15. A WORD YOU'LL NEVER HEAR.............
AVROHOM BILGREI ,   ZION   (05.05.08)
CONSTITUTION, AS IN PALISTINIAN ;THAT CALLS FOR, THE ANIALATION OF ISRAEL !
16. Jerusalem and refugees
Sam ,   Canada   (05.05.08)
This is where the tradeoff was supposed to come - Palestinians lower their expectations on refugees in return for Jewish consessions on Jerusalem. Question is, if most Palestinians and Jews would buy into it if it meant a peace agreement.
17. Predictable. Rice arrives, Israel makes more concessions.
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, DC USA   (05.05.08)
So tell us, Mr. PM, what did the Palestinians give in return for these latest concessions (what you call "progress")? Have they ended incitement to murder Jews on PA media? Have they dismantled terror groups - including the Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigade, which belongs to their own Fatah? Have they even recognized Israel as the Jewish homeland - what Olmert insisted was a bottom line demand? It doesn't appear the PA have done ANYTHING except pocket more Israeli concessions. Prove me wrong.
18. All Mart will be in jail first.
ben Avraham ,   Tel Aviv   (05.05.08)
19. "Progress Achieved"= Condi gave Olmert more cash.
R.Alkalai ,   USA   (05.05.08)
20. The US would be well advised...
Roni Cohen ,   T.A.   (05.06.08)
The US would be well advised to end the “peace process” and support the humanitarian solution. Pursuit of Israel's destruction and creation of an exclusively Arab and Muslim entity in its place are the goals to which Palestinians, particularly Palestinian youth, have been indoctrinated since establishment of the Palestinian Authority, not only by Hamas's vehicles of indoctrination and those of Arafat but by those of Mahmoud Abbas as well. And yet our government continues to embrace Abbas as a viable "peace partner," and Israel's present leaders go along with this unconscionable charade. Why don’t our leaders bring the truth to light as described at : http://xrl.us/bjdxh
