Arab minority be grateful for the opportunity to live as inferiors all their lives. Pro-war Americans are insistent that Iraqis should be grateful for our "liberating" and demolishing their country. The apparent fact is that for an amoral conquest to be considered successful, the conquered must declare their complete satisfaction with the arrangement and raise future generations to obediently accept their imposed servility without raising a fuss. It would seem that the ultimate offense a conquered people can commit is to remind the conquerors that they aren't very nice people, and that the situation is not at present satisfactory for all concerned. Such an offense, however, is the only path to equality and freedom. That is why Arab Israelis must remember the Nakba whenever Jewish Israelis celebrate independence. It is an affirmation of Arab Israeli humanity in the face of a Jewish Israeli celebration commemorating, in a sense, the subjugation of the Arabs and their relegation to the status of inferiors in their own country. It would be a servile people indeed who could join in a celebration and say to you "I'm so glad you took from us our homes, our land, our very hopes and dreams for the future!" It is an intolerant and cruel people who would demand such degrading kowtowing from anyone.

7. The Arabs have A Choice........
Adina Kutnicki   (05.08.08)
Let's face it folks, the Arabs in Israel have NO desire to be part of a Jewish Israel. They are determined to suck the country's coffers dry, but have little interest in particiating in its national ethos or survival. They have 21 other states to go to if they do not like being a minority in a Jewish state, so they can just leave. Many proud Jews will not rollover and play dead like their leaders are prone to do. Remember that the next time the 'nakba' propaganda train rolls around.
8. What they want...what they give
Reality Check ,   BaGolan   (05.08.08)
They want money from the JEWISH State, they give hate in return; they want open services from the JEWISH State, they give hate in return; they want democracy from the JEWISH State they give hate in return; they want all the luxuries the JEWISH State offers they give hate in return; they want our police and IDF to protect them from their own terrorists they give hate in return. As ye reap so shall ye sow!

don't you understand that we israelis while celebrating our independence and jewish nation and state are also celebrating your fictitious naqbah which you brought on yourselves???? by your all or nothing ideology? well, i guess it must be something to celebrate NOTHING!
11. Who Cares? Not our Problem!
David ,   Tel Aviv   (05.08.08)
If the Arabs are so unhappy here in Israel then they have 22 Arab countries they can go to. But then again, these malcontents would probably complain even if they were somewhere else.
12. Arabs not Happy? Gee Why?
Hinda ,   SF Bay Area   (05.08.08)
Yes Israel has not been totally fair in treating Arabs throughout the years, however, that being said, what country in North Africa-Middle East even allows Jews to be in their parliaments let alone to get their basic utilities (gas, water, electricity) for FREE? How were they treated under the tutalege of Trans-Jordan and Egypt prior to israel? Go Figure.

15. Freedom & a Jewish nation
dj   (05.08.08)
A inhabitant of a nation that does not have a wall between government and religion, are not free. Israel should be a Jewsih homeland AND a land of freedom. Jews living outside Israel should be able, for say a $100 registration fee, to vote for a category of representatives that would be members of the Knesset. A portion of the fee could be used to support Jewish religious institutions. Residents of Israel (Jew and non-Jew) would thus be relieved of supported religion, and a wall of separation could be placed between state and God. This would enable truer democracy to develope, and insure that Israel maintains a majority Jewish voting public.

A survey carried out the Panels Research Institute finds that more than 75% of Israelis see partial or total transfer of Israeli-Arabs out of Israel in any final-status agreement that includes a Palestinian state. The poll asked whether it would be justified, in the framework of an agreement for the establishment of a Palestinian state, to demand the transfer out of Israel of all Arabs. Nearly 30% said yes with no reservations, while 28% said only Arabs who did not express loyalty to Israel should be expelled. In addition, another 19% said that Arabs who lived in areas bordering the PA-controlled areas, such as Wadi Area and the southern Galilee, should be transferred out.The remainder, just under 25%, said no Arabs should be transferred out.The survey encompassed 668 respondents, taking part in a series of Panel4All internet surveys. The Panels Institute says the respondents are a representative sampling of the adult population in Israel, and that the margin of error is 3.7%. The solution ? Details at : http://xrl.us/bjcgx

18. Arab big minority not celebrating Independence Day?
observer   (05.08.08)
is that racism on the side of Arabs or Jews? on which side the immigrants (4.4%) are counted? a swap for Jewish West Bank settlements? Is that the reason for building more settlement; it is not a matter of security or birthright which is not racism at all?
19. so dissapointed
popo ,   israel   (05.08.08)
if most of you that wrote in cant agree at least understand or try to , i would not like to bring up my child in a country that he was to made to feel inferiour this is the reason i live in israel and not in britain where i was born eventhough my life would be easer . yes thay have more freedom than most arabs yes thay have many oppertunities, and yes thay are probably better educated than most arabs in the middle east. but really look in your harts have we ever really excepted them as part of israel , put the trouble makers asside. we have plenty of haredeem that live in this country but denounce it. i have a greater anger towards them than the arabs there problems can be in some way understood . ive heard slurs and jokes and unpleasent things spoke about arabs i some times think it has become so by the way we dont even think its rude or hurtful . when is the last time you tryed to get to know an arab family better ,,,,,,,, just think about it

seeing how israel's independence was also independence for arab christians from the 14 centuries of muslim oppression, harassment, and affliction, celebrating the birth of the jewish state last night was truly worth joyfully commemorating. kol hakavod israel!

What Palestinians mourn on Nakba Day is that armies of the neighboring Arab states have invaded Israel, but were not able to kill all the Jews. Incidentally, this is also what the Jews celebrate - that armies of the neighboring Arab states invaded the mandatory Palestine, but were not able to kill the Jews and destroy Israel, the Jewish state. So, congratulations to all of us!

25. Arabs don't celebrate Israel Independence
Shoshi ,   Jerusalem   (05.08.08)
But it's okay for them to get all the benefits of the State of Israel - freedom (not like they would have in Gaza), medical, modern utilities, clean streets (more or less), etc., etc.
26. Public Spending but not on Arabs???
Shlomo ,   London England   (05.08.08)
I think that by the time you incorporate the security costs, the separation fence etc, Israel is actually spending more on the Arabs tha on its own populaton, become loyal productive citizens and the money will be diverted to somethink they could benefit from as well!
