4. "We forgot how to fight"
Israel ,   Nahariya   (05.15.08)
Substitute : "Barak has forgotten how to fight ".How can you call Israel a Democracy when you cannot get rid of the likes of the Government that we have ?
5. IDF and IAF
Marcelo ,   Frankfurt   (05.15.08)
It seems to me clear that the govt does not make any further step in solving the hammas problem completelly and for good simple, because that is what abbas should do but cannot. Isarel has the means to solve the hammas problem and if she does something Gaza should be taken back since abbas and his craps do not do anything but condeming and mony wahsing....
6. Not Knowing ?
EM ,   Ra'anana   (05.15.08)
Every day we hear about IDF actions in Gaza and how our air force and ground forces eliminate militants and rocket launchers. There are probably hundreds..and given the complexity of the operations, it will take time. Not to mention our concern to limit collateral damage (although you might argue that we shouldn't care about killing their children - using the argument that ALL of 'them' are guilty). Your suggestion that we have two brigades on "alert" is irrelevant. The army is on alert. Your suggestion that we "deploy a "serious force into rocket launching sites to scour the area and make arrests, with no time limit" is ridiculous. Do you think that the rocket launchers are sitting in one place? Or maybe you think that a "serious force" should sit in every apartment block in Gaza and wait. The situation is without doubt intolerable...but accusing the IDF of not knowing how to fight is either ignorant of the actions taking place....or politically motivated.
7. why no response to the continual rockets
chaim grosz ,   miami beach USA   (05.15.08)
The Government did not forget how to fight, that is the obligation of the IDF. what the Government is consumed by is justy how can we produce a exxplination of our misconduct without facing arrest aafter we are forced out of the government, so we must take every moment in the day to protect the current currupt government, so who has time to worry about protecting the Israeli public, just how much does the avrage citizen understand what comes first to protect. the Government of the population
8. #1 Jalal: Poor child....
Ariel ,   US   (05.15.08)
Actually, Jalal, we never loved you. Moreover, we never even liked you. Even worse for you: no Arab country ever liked you, was willing to give you a hug or accept you a s their own. Why? Look at your behaviour: spoiled, nasty, treacherous, whiny, demanding, ungrateful, cruel. You, Palestinians, are very dysfunctional children: you need not love but continuous spanking and showing who is the alpha dog. Down, boy!
9. Grads at Ashkelon?We won`t keep silent
Nora ,   Tel Aviv   (05.15.08)
we will speak...speak...speak....until? Until another Grad . What then? We won`t keep silent...we will speak spreak..speak..speeeeeek!
10. And what if???
Dr D ,   Jerusalem   (05.15.08)
By eventually reentering Gaza the IDF will be obligated to recall first a large number of reservists and be prepared for a more serious war in the North and maybe confrontations with Arab Israelis dormant cells . The West Bank will also unleash their terror. Can we fight against Hamas, Hisbullah, Syria, Iran, Arab Israelis and Fatah ? Not with the media present and not without a massive number of casualties . Our government is not sleeping and is not afraid. Our Intel is working hard and if we don't move is because is not the right moment.
11. More and more people are now agreeing with this analysis!
redmiike ,   Tel Aviv, London, LA   (05.15.08)
We can't expect Olmert to do anything and Barak is mainly concerned about how to become PM. It's interesting that the people that are keeping Olmert in power right now are losing all respect by doing so and effectively ruining any political future they might have had. I will never forgive them and nor will hundreds of thousands of others. We must rely on the police and Manny Mazus to bring down the government and it finally looks as if they will succeed. Mike
12. Yes, but get our leaders to understand!
Mike ,   Raanana   (05.15.08)
I totally agree and you put it well, but our leaders are corupt and care more about their own personal survival and egos and hiding the crimes they have committed than about the security of our people. By the way, the young IDF recruits and officers and commanders have not forgotten how to fight. They are ready to do what they are called to do, but there is a complete failure in leadership. Olmert and his crew of morons have to go now!
13. They Forgot How to Fight
June ,   Ashkelon   (05.15.08)
I agree with the author 100% the time has come to stand up and fight back! Lets face facts, if we fight for survival we are wrong, if we give them half the country, we are in the wrong so what does it matter any more what the world thinks, its time to worry about ourselves and survive!
14. We should fight with the will to defeat the enemy.
Robert Bernier ,   Tel Aviv   (05.15.08)
US Congressman David Weldon (R., Florida), who visited Israel a few months ago, said Israel should strike back at Gaza in one fell swoop. "During World War II," Weldon told the Makor Rishon newspaper, "the U.S. attacked Japan mercilessly. Despite the ethical problems, everyone now agrees that this caused Japan to surrender, thus saving many lives, including Japanese lives. This is the reason I think Israel should hit the Palestinians with one fell swoop, thus defeating them. Otherwise, this cruel situation of today will continue year after year, decade after decade.Just like parents have to protect their children," Weldon said, "a state must protect its citizens, especially those who are threatened such as those in Sderot. If a country would attack the U.S., I would support turning that country into dust. If it’s right for the U.S., it's right for Israel." As described at : http://xrl.us/biz8x

16. quite true
Yisraeli   (05.15.08)
However let me make it clear to anyone who thinks Israel should go into Gaza and clean out and kill all the Hamas from top to bottom, that is not the way. Because all we will be doing is sacrificing maybe 100 of our own soldiers just to get rid of terrorist A then hand over the area to terrorist B named fatah. Israel should be pounding them from the air relentlessly. Target their personnel and including their leaders. Make every grad or kassam they send exact a very very heavy price that they can no longer burden. No goods whatsoever nor fuel nor electricity period. Not just for 2 hours but permanently. Let them all live in a living hell because it is of theyre own making. Its called cause and effect.
17. Take a page from the Popular Resistance Committees of Gaza
Ze'ev ,   Eshkolot Israel   (05.15.08)
Folks in Ashkelon and the western Negev communities should form Popular Resistance Committees (PRCs), similar to those formed by the Gazans. The Israeli PRCs should acquire their own rockets, and respond in kind to those fired by the Gazan PRCs. The Israeli government and the IDF should try to find and stop the Israeli PRCs, but ONLY as hard as the Hamas government is trying to stop the Gazan PRCs.
18. Olmert never knew how
Mahlon Drumgoole ,   Newark NJ   (05.15.08)
Israel's major problems are obvious. Israel wants to be loved and is terrified of world opinion. Having only the US as a consistent ally makes Israel wary of doing anything to threaten the US-Israel alliance. Further compounding this complex relationship is the oil crisis. With the major oil producers manipulating the supplies to raise prices, the price of oil has risen to a level that will soon ruin the economy of the developed world. With this as background, it is important to remember the ill-fated second Lebanon War of several years ago because Israel's mistake in not taking out Hezbollah (and retaining its deterrent reputation) is coming back to haunt them. Led by an inexperienced and incompetent administration, Israel was forced to lose the war because Kadima did not know what to do. The defense minister had no expertise in defense as his career was spent as a labor leader. Thus, rather than having the administration demand that the IDF wipe out Hezbollah, they allowed an IDF to bomb towns and launch small commando raids against a well-entrenched and trained enemy. Instead of using massive force to rout the enemy, the IDF seemed unable to apply their military training and come up with a meaningful strategy that would have ended in a defeat for the terrorist Hezbollah and its sponser, Iran. Now, with Israel's confidence in the IDF at low levels and the administration being investigated for corruption, Kadima considers the rocket barrage against Sderot and the other communities of the Negev as acceptable and minor irritants and is unwilling to do anything to risk another war.
19. Continuing like this, how long the state will go on?
Avraham ,   NYC   (05.15.08)
The only solution - at least on temporary basis - is the re-occupation of Gaza, defeat of terrorist thugs and their disarmarment.

in the governemnt than was previously thought? Are our esteemed leaders using our tax shekels to pay their annual subscriptions to the World Union of Pillocks? or do they have free membership as founder members?

24. The leaders are afraid of Menachem Mazuz and others like
Rivkah   (05.16.08)
him who may attack and/or frame them if they do anything controversial from the perspective of the international arena. Former Wall Street Journal Editor Paul Craig Roberts calls the American system, the American INjustice System because there is so much abuse of authority. In America, Roman Catholic priests are charged and put on trial for incidents decades ago that cannot be proven, on the word of a single liar who wants to sue and make some money, so he says he was abused but did not report it for decades. The object was to bankrupt the Roman Catholic Church and shut down schools that are no longer affordable so the local governments can get more money from the Federal government for more children in public schools. Follow the money trail and you will find the source of the wrongful and malicious prosecutions. Now, leaders are paralyzed with fear to act, particularly in Israel, because Mr. Mazuz might attack them if he does not like a policy. I can think of no other reason for the malicious attacks because justice certainly has not been the objection for that lout. If justice was the objective, the females who refused Mrs. Katzav's request to dress decently in the President's office and failed to do so would have been charged with prostitution or attempted prostitution. Now, Mr. Olmert is being destroyed for staying at a hotel in Washington, D. C. paid for by someone who wanted to help Israel but now wants his money back.
