1. on the whispering wind, the snake slithers
Ghost of Drefus ,   thin air   (05.19.08)
to position itself safely, and then fataly strike its prey. Zion, be on guard!
2. Normally, I would be very critical ....
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (05.19.08)
But, considering that our own gov't. has been negotiating behind the scenes & thru intermediaries with Hamas, it's hard to criticise anyone else. In the last few weeks, we have had reports of talks, denials of talks, reports of a truce, denials of a truce, leaks of terms of the truce, denials of the same terms, spin from supporters of a truce, visits from Egyptian negotiators of the non-existant negotiations about the non-existant truce, & now finally, hints that a deal is about to be agreed upon. So, it should be obvious that if our own gov't. talks to Hamas, others will see no reason not to talk as well. And, I might add, the Europeans are always eager to negotiate with extremists, terrorists, un-democratic dictators, & generally, anyone who is an enemy of Israel. This is how the PLO started - remember Arafat at the UN with a gun? We made him acceptable - the leftists here in Israel created the PA & enabled Fatah. They will try the same thing with Hamas - watch & see.
3. Kouchner is jewish, so not impartial
James   (05.19.08)
Kouchener is of Jewish descent himself, so I would be surpirsed if the talks were productive. To be a successful mediator, one needs to be impartial. Just like a Muslims can not easily mediate in this complex issue, a Jew like Kouchner suffers from the same problem.
4. #3 You talk if being Jewish would be a disease
Isac ,   Florida   (05.19.08)
By your logic the mediation between the Israel and Egypt in 1975 and the consequent peace treaty would not have been possible, since it was done by a Jew and a Muslim. Wow you are quite a genius!
5. And a European gentile could be impartial? - #3
Kate ,   London, UK   (05.19.08)
Employing James' logic, and given Europe's long history of anti-Semitism, no European gentile could be impartial either.
6. The solution to terror.
Robert Bernier ,   Tel Aviv   (05.19.08)
Victory is the key word not peace, because peace is not an option in this part of the world, and because there is only one solution to terror : a military solution. You do not talk to terrorists, you fight and defeat them. Victory is needed to prove to the Muslims in general and the Arabs in particular that against their ethos of death stands the ethos of life, protected by the arms of democracies that are resolved to punish them where it hurts most as explained at : http://xrl.us/biz8x
7. And the minister seems very proud of himself...
Yonatan ,   USA   (05.19.08)
It goes to show you what morons they are. Wave that white flag. You have it down to an art form.
8. Sarkozy must go to Gaza
Frank ,   Canada   (05.19.08)
Israel must cancel her invitation to Sarkozy. If the French want to visit the Middle East, they must visit their friends in Gaza. Receiving Sarkozy is like receiving Khaled Mashal
9. let's talk to osama bin looney too
alan ,   capestraigtalaska   (05.19.08)
Yes, Talking to terrorists is a great idea, so we should send the French to talk to Osama bin Looney to see what conditions he wants to impose on the world in order to have a truce during which he will get nukes and force our adoption of Islamic law. The condition would probably be all women in the world must wear a burka before you can have a truce. Talking to terrorists legitimizes them and maybe that is why Bush talked about appeasement in Israel.
