2. Iranian intolerance
Sidney ,   USA   (05.20.08)
There is no more peaceful group in the world than the Bahais. That the Iranian government persecutes them is a measure of how evil the mullahs and ayatollahs are.
3. No freedom of religion under Islam.
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (05.20.08)
Another minority religion persecued by the "religion of peace" - And yet, leftist apologists will conveniently ignore the true nature of this evil totalitarian ideology. Hypocrisy has no limits ....
4. Little itty bitty Iran is not a threat to anyone.
Barak Obama ,   Soon to be Wash D.C.   (05.20.08)
5. The Bahais and Jews of Iran - then and now
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, DC USA   (05.20.08)
I had the privilege of visiting Iran (from Israel) in 1976. It was a time of significant development and, yes, reform that many have since forgotten. The two groups taking most advantage of the economic opportunities were the Jews and the Bahais. The mullahs, of course, were resisting change. After the Revolution, the mullahs were in charge. And who did they attack? The Jews and the Bahais.
6. Ba'hai have always persecuted in Iran...
The Doc ,   Haifa, Israel   (05.20.08)
... along with ALL the other non-Farsi minorities. Teheran has one of the most racist governments around since nazi Germany. No wonder that the Arabs hate their guts and regard their Nuclear ambitions with the same worry israel does.
7. They're heretics anyway - good riddance
Jimmy Carter ,   Plains, GA   (05.20.08)
8. Not like they're Muslims or anything - why worry?
Barak Obama ,   Illinois / Teheran   (05.20.08)
9. An evil Islamic republis
Rami ,   Nazareth, Israel   (05.20.08)
Bahai's should be free to worship in their homeland. International community should pressure iran to change policy
10. BaHai and peace
Arie ,   BaGolan   (05.21.08)
There is a reason the main Temple of the BaHai faith lays on the hills of Haifa.....In Israel, although it is the Jewish State, it is the ONLY State in the Middle East, Persian Gulf, Asia, and I dare ay throughout the EU that ALL religions can practice their beliefs openly and without fear of persecution. Now I understand that that the followers of Jimmy Carter Ahmadinejad will attack me for daring to post the truth but alack the humility honour and freedoms openly enjoyed by the peaceful people of the faith is proof enough!
11. Terrorist leaders got arrested!
IRAN#1   (05.21.08)
The Bahais were directly involved in the bombing in Shiraz. They frist arrested the foot soldiers and then subsequently the investigation led to these Bahais. Their so called religion has nothing to do with the arrests. At least Iran, unlike Israel, did not send a missele into their home and cause "collateral damage" to punish a single terrorist.
12. #5 Raymond - me too!
Robby ,   San Jose, USA   (05.21.08)
I was there at the same time Raymond. And based on what I experienced we (Jews) were better off then the Bahai. And from what I hear today it is still the case - being Bahai is more dangerous then being a Jew.
13. ANTI STATE ACTIVITIES BY BAHAIS
MAHMOOD ,   LONDON-UK   (05.21.08)
It is not the first time the Bahais have indulged in anti state activities.During Shah's era how Bahais were treated and how they excercised undue power in the country is well known to the many. However, after the founding of Islamic Republic Of Iran, certain elements in the country, not all Bahais of course, used every conceivable opportunity to indulge in ant-state activities.Every time they are persecuted, there is a tendency for certain media to portray the plight of Bahais in Iran. This is due to failure of interested entities in the region to gather enough intelligence in the Islamic Republic using Bahais and others. Is the article trying to suggest that we have angles residing in ohter countries?Dont you have elements in your own country who have compromised and caused harm to your country.Exactly the same is true in Iran.It is commendable job on the part of Iran,s intelligence who made the Shiraz mosque bombing initially look like an accident but were in hot persuit behind the scenes to now expose a fairly well organised anti-state elements who had well-laid plans to cause chaos in the Islamic Republic. If the anti-state elements include Bahais,be it so.Prper action has to follow by these vigilant Intelligence Unit.
14. #13 Can you be more specific?
Cynthia ,   USA   (05.21.08)
Neither this article or your comments provide concrete evidence that the Bahais have committed any crimes to justify ongoing persecution by the Islamic Regime. The Bahais are vulnerable and easy targets for the Regime to scapegoat because they're an unprotected minority in Iran.
15. #11 Iran
Robby ,   San Jose, USA   (05.21.08)
Has the government shown proof these individuals were involved? Also - are you saying Israel bombs it's own citizens? Can you tell me when and where this happened?
16. I wonder why the Bahai have headquaters in Israel
gisele ,   Beirut   (05.21.08)
I have always wondered . the Jews in Iran are fine and most of them do not Jewish money to make aliya (have been offered thousands of pounds ) thousands of iranian jews Live in Iran and are represented at the Parliament .
17. And Iran is ranked as peaceful? hahahahaha!
Kay3 ,   Israel   (05.21.08)
18. # 11
Thomas   (05.21.08)
Unlike Iran, Israel can prove the people they arrest and/or kill are related to terror. In part because they admit it. Other times, their neighbors turn them in by calling Israel's collaboration hotline and collecting the cash . On the other hand, you have no admission or proof of Ba'hai guilt. But we know this wouldn't be the first time the Iranian government arrested members of a religious minority without evidence. Let me guess - secret trial for the Ba'hai leaders?
19. #16 Re: headquarters in Israel
Cynthia ,   USA   (05.21.08)
The Bahai founder and spiritual leader named Bahaullah was exiled from Iran, formerly Persia. He was sent to Israel in 1868 as a prisoner jailed in Acre. He eventually died in Israel. His shrine and the Bahai world center is in Haifa. I've not been inside the shrine but the grounds and gardens are beautiful. As far as the Jews of Iran are concerned, don't believe the propaganda pumped out by the Regime. I'm sure they would persecute the Jews just like the Bahai if they could get away with it but the Jews of Iran come in handy for Ahmadinejad. He can threaten Israel, deny the Holocaust then point to how happy the Jews of Iran are while they are not free to speak their mind.
20. WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT,CYNTHIA?.....#14
MAHMOOD   (05.22.08)
Are you trying to suggest to me that you have concrete evidence of non-involvement of Bahais in the anti-state activities in Iran?Far from it,Cynthia.During the reign of Shah,Bahais had taken definite advantage of Shah's support and had everything possible to create obstacles for the clergies in Iran. You seem to have forgotten all that?Or are you trying to suggest that Bahais have always lived as a minority? I am not trying to blame all the Bahais in Iran, but various intelligence report emerging from Iran very clearly indicate of some kind of anti-state activities linked to foreign powers still very much in the making.Minorities have better rights in Iran than what you even THINK,but be assured that these relaxed policies do not give a licence to individuals to indulge in antistate activities and Iran cannot compromise as well.Be it a minority,if you cannot obey the country's laws, punitive action is imperative. Therefore,Cynthia, dont jump to conclusion as the Iranian Intelligence have proof which has been presented to the Swiss Embassy in Iran with evidence pointing to specific countries being invloved in sabotage activities in Iran. Harsher action against these groups will be taken irrespective of whether they belong to minority communities in Iran or they be an Iranian of Iranian origin. How come we have hardly read your talk-back when these elements happen to be Iranians of Persian origin?
21. Baha'i Faith
Shahnam Amini ,   Baton Rouge, US   (05.23.08)
I wanted to point out that as Baha'is we do not consider Baha'u'llah as the "last prophet sent by divine intervention to the world", as there will be Others sent by God who will reveal God's Will and Purpose for mankind in the future. thank you
