This is probably an intentional leak by Olmert to get Syria to break off the talks and have Syria take the blame instead of Israel. Israeli public opinion is very strongly against giving up the Golan, but Olmert has to look like a peacemaker to the EU and others. But the talks and the leak of them could also be just to create bad relations between Syria and Iran, hoping to stop supply of Hezbollah, with no serious intent to give back Golan. Will Assad be fooled? Very possibly, especially if the US jumps on board with relief of sanctions.

Very astute number four. I saw right through this as well. I also believe it is a simple propaganda style deception. Iran pretends to be angry about negotiations so Israel will think: "Oh wow look. We can hurt Syria's link with Ahmadinejad and his evil regime by simple negotiations. Wow..If this makes Iran angry at Syria, giving Syria the Golan might actually convince them to stop being allies." They would be fools to believe this. As soon as Israel hands over the Golan, Iran would celebrate and congratulate Syria. And only then would everyone realize this was all a very transparent ruse. Except number four and the rest of us.
