1. Enemy of the State - one of them anyway!
Sheila ,   Jerusalem Israel   (05.24.08)
At long last we are beginning to understand that we don't have to be nice ot those who spread lies about us!!!! Now we can refuse entry to Ilan Pappe, Noam Chomsky and Mona Baker too since they are the enemies within.
2. Finkelstein the Monster
Thomas ,   USA   (05.24.08)
Anyone who supports this human trash, a lying scum can be regarded as birds of a feather. You, Jewish people, did you loose all your human decency? You have no more self respect left? Are you all moral cadavers? Shame on you.
3. Finkelstein deported
Rony ,   Israel Raanana   (05.24.08)
Right decision! Maybe too mild.
4. ACRI and Democracy
(05.24.08)
Is Britain a tolitarian society for expelling Sheikh Abu Hamza al Misri? What about America's refusal to allow Tariq Ramadan into the country? " A democratic state, where freedom of expression is the highest principle, does not shut out criticism or ideas just because they are uncomfortable for its authorities to hear, it confronts those ideas in public debate," said ACRI Attorney Oded Peler. Does that mean the Kach party should be readmitted to the Knesset?
5. BEST BEST NEWS IVE HEARD!!
Yisraeli   (05.25.08)
COMING FROM ISRAEL IN AGES. About time Israel woke up and bar entry of its arch enemies who seeks her destruction. Never let him in hes 'persona non grata'. And there are many more like him. Ermm what did Britain do just recently with Moshe Feiglin? Is Britain a democracy? Not that their decision was justified. And not that Moshe has any intention in landing in that dhimmi country. Is Israel growing a set of balls? Yet we still have a long way to go with our robotic Osloids.
6. I don't understand
Confused ,   LA   (05.25.08)
I don't understand why Norman Finkelstein would want to enter Israel. To make what he says more plausible? This is a unique reason. "Look, I've been there, I know what I'm talking about!" Now this option is out. What is next? "Look, they won't me enter - I am right!" Classical.
7. Criticism 1 thing belligerent another RIGHT ???
M. S. ,   mpls america   (05.25.08)
I realize Finkelstein is a nice J*wish name my mother was named Finkelstein to criticize Israel is 1 thing but there is a limit that leaders tolerate go over the line may cause you to be arrested in this case deported a shame but that is exactly how the system works Israel at this time suffers from how America the world may pressure it about settlements housing borders the Golen heights many things two 2 state system things are still as bad as they were more less before 1948 48 56 67 73 only proved Israelis have a good military but there are other things besides a good military RIGHT ??? thank you... M. S.
8. this is not how to confront his views.
ygalg   (05.24.08)
ad hominem is no refutation but logical fallacy. I'm despondent by Israeli gov' behavior. he does not link to terror org' he is an individual with different views that should be confronted by views. this was a good opportunity. israeli gov made own goal.
9. At last a good decision
Michel ,   Jerusalem   (05.25.08)
But which will be revoked by the leftists of the Supreme Court..
10. America deports and torments Israelis regularly.
Tahl ,   Israel   (05.25.08)
How many cases we've heard, of Israelis (as well as many other nationals) being interogated, insulted, and deported when landing in America, for ludicrous reasons? And by the way, I'm sure many Americans wouldn't want this scum in their country too...
11. finkelstein met and lauded an enemy of the state...
hanan ,   ottawa, canada   (05.25.08)
in addition to visiting an enemy state...he cannot enter israel just like no one who has visited israel can enter an enemy arab state!
12. Finkelstein's enermous lies harm Israel, traitors be gone.
Bunnie Meyer ,   Santa Monica,CA USA   (05.25.08)
13. #2 give me a break
Natan   (05.25.08)
He was not deported. He was refused entry and rightfully so. Every country, including the US and others has a list of "Non welcomed" people for diferent reasons. "The decision to prevent someone from voicing their opinions by arresting and deporting them is typical of a totalitarian regime... This statement by his attorney Oded Peler is ridiculous. Finkelstein is NOT an Israeli citizen. Israeli CItizens are not arrested and deported for voicing their opinions (ask Arab MKs). Mr. Finkelstein is no diferent than an Arab terrorist..Keep him out
14. Finkelstein shouldn't desire to enter Israel, because..
mea, too   (05.25.08)
a Jewish person so anti-Israel should not be allowed to ever enter sacred Israel. He wants to travel? Go to Poland, to the camps..travel there, you piece of garbage
15. Time to undrestand antisemitism comes in different flavours.
simple man ,   los angeles   (05.25.08)
...jewish, moslem, christian, hindu, leftist, extreme rightist.....
16. Oded Peler should also be deported
Steve ,   Fla.   (05.25.08)
Come on Mr. Peler, please present yourself on this YNet forum. I challenge you to defend Mr. Finkelstein on a public forum.. Don't be a little boy. Let's debate this issue. Come on Oded Peler. Make your case. Please.
17. Finkelstein
Avi   (05.25.08)
Something this man did or said prompted the authorities to ban him for 10 years. Of course it doesn't help that he visited an enemy. Not to mention that he risked his own skin needlessly in the process. I wonder how the Americans will react after he returns,. I don't think it will be over for him when he gets back.
18. ACRI
Phil ,   US   (05.25.08)
I don't know what the educational levels of the people who control the Axxociation for Civil Rights in Israel but I'm sure that at least some of them are university grads. Unfortunately, these people are learned fools who have no common sense or decency. In the US, we have the ACLU, an organization that seems determined to completely handcuff the government in its fight against terrorism. Nobody wants too much governmental power, but the ACLU doesn't care about governmental power except when the government needs to combat terrorism. Even the ACLU doesn't dictate to the state department about who is allowed to enter the UD like the ACRI. The ACRI has really become a subvursive menace to Israel. First of all, Israel is under no obligation to allow someone like this alienated and rootless Finklestein to enter Israel. Like all countries, Israel has a right to keep undesirables out. In Israel's case, allowing someone who is a poor scholar and who demeans the suffering of the Holocaust victims has no right to enter a country with so many Holocaust survivors who have received such a small restitution compared to their losses. Exactly what does this sick man have to offer in the way of intellectual discourse? Dershowitz exposed his poor scholarship and at the present time, Finklestein seems to be on a mission to symbolically kill his own Holocaust surviving parents by strring up such hatred against Israel and other Jews. The ACRI takes on the case of this nitwit yet overlooks the violation of civil rights against the settlers from Gaza.
19. ACRID LOGIC; FREE SPEECH = FREE VISA
A G   (05.25.08)
So let me see - Holocaust Denial = 'Ideas' Hizbullah Affiliation = 'Criticism' Persona non grata = Totalitarian Democracy = Argue in Public Israeli Civil Rights Org. = Clueless I'll start to worry about Israel slipping into a totalitarian regime the day I don't read such preposterous, self-contradictory allegations, posturing as denounciations, against the authorities, in the press. Oded Peler should be ashamed of himself.
20. great news
tsedek ,   israel   (05.25.08)
it makes my day ;-)
21. security reasons
bar ,   Israel   (05.25.08)
This can also mean that his security could'nt be guaranteed ! Why should we pay police to guard him safely , he who voices anti Israel ideas ?
22. Jewish self-haters are the allies of Arabs.
Robert Bernier ,   Tel Aviv   (05.25.08)
A part of the Israeli intelligentsia, left oriented, is no longer confident of the nation’s right to its own Jewish identity. This has created a dangerous vacuum. In Israeli universities, revisionist historians have told corrosive lies about their country’s history, portraying it as having been born in sin. In the schools, children have not been taught Jewish history and parrot Arab disinformation instead. Israeli left oriented intellectuals would rather self-flagellate their public and "admit" sins they never committed, and furnish intellectual rationalizations for the most convoluted arguments raised by their adversaries, rather than take up their country's defense even when its conduct is beyond reproach as explained at : http://xrl.us/bi5da
23. finkelstein
monty ,   tel mond israel   (05.25.08)
#1 Sheila, I share your sentiments but unfortunately, being a democracy, we cannot prevent re-entry of Isareli citizens such as Ilan Pappe and Noam Chomsky. For the same reason we cannot exclude Daniel Barenboim, a flagrant Israel basher. We can however stop inviting him to perform in Israel. I have previously suggested this in letters to the press, but to no avail
24. right of return
Roland ,   Jerusalem Israel   (05.25.08)
He should/could ask for the right of return and come to live in Israel. Why didn't he receive the basic right to visit a friend?
25. The Limit of Free Speech
Simon ,   London UK   (05.25.08)
The liberal left would say that there should be no limits to free speech, perhaps? If it is proved that the Al Durah case was a hoax, then France2, the BBC and many other news organizations are potentially culpable for the deaths of many hundreds of people throughout the Middle East. Therefore it is possible to conclude that there is a fine line between when you allow someone to say what they want its consequences and gagging criticism. If the Israeli goverment believe that allowing Norman Finkelstein in to Israel will lead to security issues then they have every right to refuse him entry. Norman Finkelstien will continue to express his opinions from the comfort of the USA. Perhaps Norman Finkelstein will be welcomed by Amedinajad in Tehran.
26. The man is an enemy of his own people.
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (05.25.08)
We don't have to justify treating him as one. Jews are always so apologetic (not this Jew, though), always trying so hard to justify our own self-defense. In Jewish law, Finklestein would be considered an "informer" (masor, mesirah) & there was a death penalty attached to conviction, considered a mitzva. Look up what Maimonides said, "Maim., Akkum ve-Hukkoteihem 10:1" ..... So, he got off lightly considering the harm he intentionally caused us.
27. big mistake
israeli ,   israel   (05.25.08)
They should have stamped his passport and sent him to Lebanon or Syria.
28. Finkelstein
RUTH ,   BOSTON USA   (05.25.08)
Would you be so kind to tell us where is the "infamous" plagiarist a professor. To the best of my knowledge he was thrown out from De Paul University in Chicago for subsubstandard publications. He routinely copies from other people's work and when caught he screams discrimination.
29. send him to Iran
Herbert Kaine ,   Hebron, Israel   (05.25.08)
Finkelstein supports Ahmadinejad genocidal designs against the Jews. Send him on a one way ticket to Iran, where he can join Ahamdinejads harem
30. Israel's standard response to opponents of annexation
Ken Levy ,   Missouri, USA   (05.25.08)
Finkelstein is vilified in part because he opposes Israeli state policy toward the occupied territories and Lebanon. Israeli state policy opposes peace and is an especially tragic irony. It`s important to emphasize that a just settlement has been agreed to: full Israeli withdrawal from the territories acquired during the June 1967 war, full recognition by the Arab states of the state of Israel within the `67 borders with some minor adjustments, and the right of self-determination for the Arabs in the West Bank and Gaza. The agreement is about thirty years old now and continues to be opposed by the US and Israel, accompanied at times by up to about five other states (Dominica, Tuvalu, Nauru, Micronesia, etc.) There is a broad consensus which includes the entire Arab League that supports this decades old just settlement and it is, in my opinion, a proper expression of international morality under a system of international law. The US and Israel are the last holdouts.
