I understand your feelings, but at least it's an improvement over the days when people like Stephen were referred to as "idiot savants," which was really ghastly. Presumably, the term autistic savant is an attempt to describe something that's almost indescribable...that very unique group of autistic individuals who have amazing intellectual or artistic powers far beyond what exists in the general population.

So what if he's called austic? It's an affliction, not something he can help. And if you knew that he commands six figures for his drawings, you might not feel so bad.

That's why they talk about his autism. Otherwise they might simply call him a "brilliant artist and savant."

Is so obnoxious. Is she heavyly medicated? Every syllable seems to fade off into abject boredom.

If his disability was not mentioned, he would have a harder time selling his work, perhaps. Joni Erickson Sekada (sp?) sells a lot of drawings for post cards she probably could not sell if she were not disabled. She paints with a brush in her teeth, being a quadraplegic.
