The Prime Minister, like any Minister or Knesset Member is a Civil Servant and is subject to the laws and regulations laid down by the Civil Service Commission. When a Civil Servant is being investigated for corruption and or shady dealings he MUST be suspended. The are many legal precedents on this matter. Why has the Civil Service Commissioner not insisted that PM Olmert at least be suspended? The opposition is making a lot of noise about Olmert's obligation to resign but they have not done one thing to force the hand of the Attorney General to apply the law. Why? Are they scared of creating a precedent that will used against them in the future? Time will tell!
