1. Typical
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (05.28.08)
Just because it is against Israel, laws do not matter. Kind of reminds me of the UN. Every single resolution the General Assembly has passed against Israel violates the UN Charter, yet they do it year after year
2. If you're going to boycott Israel - do it properly
Miriam ,   Israel   (05.28.08)
OK. So I understand that you are ticked off at Israel, and in love with the Palestinians. That's fine with me, as long as you have truly weighed all the facts. So, you want to boycott Israel ????? I'll be sorry to miss you, but if you are doing it - do it properly. Let me help you. Check all your medications. Make sure that you do not have tablets, drops, lotions, etc., made by Abic or Teva. It may mean that you will suffer from colds and flu this winter but, hey, that's a small price for you to pay in your campaign against Israel, isn't it? While we are on the subject of your Israeli boycott, and the medical contributions to the world made by Israeli doctors and scientists, how about telling your pals to boycott the following... An Israeli company has developed a simple blood test that distinguishes between mild and more severe cases of Multiple Sclerosis. So, if you know anyone suffering from MS, tell them to ignore the Israeli patent that may, more accurately, diagnose their symptoms. An Israeli-made device helps restore the use of paralyzed hands. This device electrically stimulates the hand muscles, providing hope to millions of stroke sufferers and victims of spinal injuries. If you wish to remove this hope of a better quality of life to these people, go ahead and boycott Israel. Young children with breathing problems will soon be sleeping more soundly, thanks to a new Israeli device called the Child Hood. This innovation replaces the inhalation mask with an improved drug delivery system that provides relief for child and parent. Please tell anxious mothers that they shouldn't use this device because of your passionate cause. These are just a few examples of how people have benefited medically from the Israeli know-how you wish to block. Boycotts often affect research. A new research center in Israel hopes to throw light on brain disorders such as depression and Alzheimer's disease. The Joseph Sangol Neuroscience Center in the Sheba Medical Center at Tel HaShomer Hospital, aims to bring thousands of scientists and doctors to focus on brain research. A researcher at Israel 's Ben Gurion University has succeeded in creating human monoclonal antibodies, which can neutralize the highly contagious smallpox virus without inducing the dangerous side effects of the existing vaccine. Two Israelis received the 2004 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. Doctors Ciechanover and Hershko's research and discovery of one of the human cells most important cyclical processes will lead the way to DNA repair, control of newly produced proteins, and immune defense systems. The Movement Disorder Surgery program at Israel 's Hadassah Medical Center has successfully eliminated the physical manifestations of Parkinson's disease in a select group of patients with a deep brain stimulation technique. For women who undergo hysterectomies each year for the treatment of uterine fibroids, the development in Israel of the Ex Ablate 2000 System is a welcome breakthrough, offering a noninvasive alternative to surgery. Israel is developing a nose drop that will provide a five-year flu vaccine. These are just a few of the projects that you can help stop with your Israeli boycott. But let's not get too obsessed with my ducal research; there are other ways you can make a personal sacrifice with your anti-Israel boycott. Most of Windows operating systems were developed by Microsoft-Israel. So, set a personal example. Throw away your computer! Computers should have a sign attached saying Israel Inside. The Pentium NMX Chip technology was designed at Intel in Israel. Both the Pentium 4 microprocessor and the Centrum processor were entirely designed, developed, and produced in Israel. 3. Filth
Senior Lecturer ,   London England   (05.28.08)
These people are filth and scum and it is a disgrace to even acknowledge their existence. I am a senior lecturer at University College London and I am not a member of this organisation. Please remember they only boycott Jewish academic institutions in Israel, they do not have any beef with Israeli Arab institutions. The boycott of Jewish academic institutions in Israel is pure anti-semitism. There is nothing political about this at all it is pure racism.
4. Probably those Jews again
tFighterPilot   (05.28.08)
British Jews give Britain a bad name.
5. Academically speaking, Britain will be the loser!
Enzo ,   london,uk   (05.28.08)
6. As I said earlier...
Enzo ,   london,uk   (05.28.08)
"Jewish physicist and Nobel laureate Steven Weinberg cancels plans to visit England in protest. "
7. Disgusting
Londoner ,   London, UK   (05.28.08)
Don't these people have other work to do? Like research and scholarship? Oh wait! It's all being done in Israel. Too bad for Britain.
8. #4
Jane   (05.28.08)
We've got enough of that type right here in Israel.
9. 'Moral implications'?
Global Citizen ,   Israel & USA   (05.28.08)
A true boycott of Israeli academics means suffering for billions of people who benefit the world over from our work. Chew on that with your bangers and mash.
10. Who will pay the legal fees
Cynthia ,   USA   (05.28.08)
when the discrimination suits are filed against British institutions, the individuals and unions that initiated the boycott? Law suits are very costly and this boycott is clearly illegal. When it's time to pay the legal expenses and calculate the monetary losses, expect department and staff cuts. Who better to eliminate than the academics with nothing better to do than use British universities as a platform for their hate campaigns.
11. Dhimmi UK is now bowing to the Islamists in their midst.
bjl ,   usa   (05.28.08)
12. HERE THEY COME YET AGAIN....
Inyaki Bilbao ,   Bilbao Basque   (05.28.08)
13. When will they protest the illegal occupation in N.Ireland?
Abe Froman ,   NY, NY   (05.29.08)
The protestant British kicked their way into Catholic Northern Ireland, and have yet to leave. When will this group of sots protest the outrage in their own backyard?
14. Again? Jews and our friends should boycott them
Lilliane ,   Brighton, UK   (05.29.08)
These bimbos have nothing better to do than bring this up every 6 months. I hope that Jews and our friends will boycott these British Universities. They will suffer more.
15. In addition to lawsuits...
Cynthia ,   USA   (05.29.08)
Universities that breach established anti-discrimination laws risk losing their accreditation and funding, both private and government. The hypocrisy of those who chastise Israel then try to implement a racist policy that negatively impacts the university, students and other faculty members. It's no wonder many faculty members have dropped out of the teachers' union because they feel it misrepresents them.
16. Such incredibly hypocrisy and bigotry
Baruch ,   Boston, USA   (05.29.08)
Israel moved thousands of Jews out of Gaza and gave the Palestinians all their land and most of their buildings. The Pals destroyed this, and then began firing rockets at Israel. Israel has to protect itself with separation, and the so-called intelligensia of the UK says Israel is inhumane to do so. Why aren't they boycotting Egypt? The Egyptians could deliver food, fuel and other needs across their border and don't. Such anti-Semitism!! But, I guess we Jews should at least be used to this by now. It's an eternal story.
17. Does anyone here know?
Robby ,   San Jose, USA   (05.29.08)
Do they boycott anyone else? And are they going to boycott all Israeli institutions, or just the Jewish ones?
18. British are sick
Jorge Costa ,   Lisboa, Portugal   (05.29.08)
Sick!
19. Makes me feel ashamed to be British
Jacob ,   Cardiff, UK   (05.29.08)
Many universities in the UK are full of anti-semitic activities which is sickening and what makes it even worse is the fact that many of these students sympathize with radical Islamic teachings. No wonder universities are the breeding grounds for extremism and terrorism which is a growing problem in the UK.
20. Teachers - scary!
La Comparsita ,   Londonistan UK   (05.29.08)
The most scary & depressing thing is that these people are "teachers" - poisoning the minds of young British people. Comment no 3 is absolutely right. They are filth. I am ashamed to be British.
21. To #4
Sheridan   (05.29.08)
Hmmm. Maybe you're right. And the German, French, Hungarian Jews giving the Jews a bad name too. How is it possible? I'd like to know when you're going to say: Man, we made a mistake and maybe they're right. Until you're not admit this at least once, I'd like to know why do you surprised on these events and the hostile reaction of Non-Jews. Everything has a cause and effect. The boycott is the effect. Now, take up the question, what was the cause. If you can answer that, you'll see why they want to boycott Israel. And not because they're envy to the Israelis. See Olmert, and other "great" Israelis. They put you, the ordinary people into the frontline, while they're making those moral actions which is turning the world against Israel and the Jews. And of course many Jews are also following them blindly.
22. British Occupation is the Good Kind
Thomas   (05.29.08)
"We know of no spectacle so ridiculous as the British public in one of its periodic fits of morality." Abolitionist and Reformer, Lord Thomas Macaulay
23. And then we will be free to strengthen our ties with all
Mark ,   Oxford   (05.29.08)
of those fine academic institutions that the Arab world has built with its countless trillions of petro-dollars and its hundreds of millions of citizens; beacons of liberty and civil rights, one and all.
24. #21 - The cause
Robby ,   San Jose, USA   (05.29.08)
The cause is the rejection of a Jewish state by the Arab world, which has caused security concerns for Israel, which has caused the effect - occupation. I'm sure you will consider it heresy, but the cause of the problems in Gaza belong to HAMAS. They are the leadership that makes the decisions which have caused the closure. HAMAS could end the closure almost immediately, and they know how. They are the cause of the problems, Israel's closure is the effect. It's my guess they choose Israel because it's an easy 'feel good' move.
25. There is only one way to stop this nonsense
Danny   (05.29.08)
Make sure no one ever reports it. Remind the newspapers that this is yet another failed attempt to get a boycott. When the headlines changes to "Yet another pathetic attempt to impose a boycott on Israel fails miserably" you can bet they will stop doing this.
26. Ah, Left-wing academica rears it's twitty head yet again
Cameron ,   USA   (05.29.08)
Find me a more self-righteous beast if you can. I always thought we in the US had the market cornered on that dubious breed, but Britain seems to be pushing the foolish boundary ever forward.
27. Perhaps Israeli academicians...
Micha   (05.29.08)
should boycott the UK. I want to see the UK "academicians" boycott some moslem middle eastern countries as well for their commission of human rights abuses and violence towards and subjugation of women. That would be a breath of fresh air.
28. This leftist is disgusted
Noah ,   New York, NY   (05.29.08)
You may have seen my talkbacks elsewhere on this site. I'm pretty critical of Israel. Well - even I think this boycott is anti-Semitic. There really is no other explanation. How about boycotting China, Myanmar, etc.? You'll never see these Brits even consider it. Pure anti-Semitism - yes, even I think so.
29. it's ok folks
(05.29.08)
the brits and their scientific institutions need the jewish israeli brains and scholars much more than the jews and israel needs them. so, if the brits want to shoot themselves in the foot, so be it. i believe that in addition to pure antisemitism as a base for this boycott, lays also a severe envy of our capacity, our scientific and technological discoveries and our successful economy. that, my friends, the brits cannot compete with and can never hold a candle to jewish israeli innovations, scholarly work, scientific discoveries and the such. hay, lymies, shut your computers and cell phones asap. you should also boycott these innovations tghat were discovered by israelis, dumb brits.
30. #2 Miriam, you left one out.
leo ,   NY   (05.29.08)
The Israeli drug Azilect may be a Parkinsons wonder drug. So if those British academics or their families have Parkinsons they should definately boycott this drug.
