1. Are only Anti-Semites like Tutu & Carter rewardedNobel Peace
Miriam ,   Israel   (05.29.08)
Prizes? Or is it only to those who want to get rid of Israel?
2. Fellow - Traveller
Christy ,   Boston, MA   (05.29.08)
Isn't Tutu a fellow-traveller of Jimmy Carter? Both of them think the 'situation' in Israel is to be blamed primarily on Israel. Also, facts to the contrary they believe Israel oppresses the poor, innocent Palestinians. "Tutu called on Israel to end a blockade of the Gaza Strip, saying the international community's "silence and complicity, especially on the situation in Gaza, shame us all". " If the 'International Community' is silent about the blockade, perhaps they see things Tutu doesn't see. Perhaps the blockade is needed?!
3. Ridicolous
Ruth ,   Beer Sheva   (05.29.08)
a fact finding mission two years after the fact, not by a team of experts but by a biased person talking to just one side.
4. Good man Tutu !
Jacob ,   Israel   (05.29.08)
Thank you for making it to Gaza and highlighting Israels crimes to humanity !
5. Doesn't Israel see that the UN "World Body" as a paper tiger
Miriam ,   Israel   (05.29.08)
which is controlled by Third World Countries and are experts in condemning Israel. It's about time Israel stops forwarding their silly complaints to them. This is the Galut mentality of the Jews that stayed with them. – In Europe, whenever Jews were hurt, “Moshka” ran complaining to the Paritz (the Count), whether the Count was cooperative or anti-Semitic. Officially, the State of Israel was created in order to get rid of the Galut, the Exile. Apparently, it’s easier to take the Jews out of Galut, than the Galut out of the Jews…
6. Et Tutu?
Vicky ,   Ashkelon Israel   (05.29.08)
Doe's he honestly think that it is a massacre to kill 18. In his time how many did he kill? If we say it was an Accident, then knowing our IDF It WAS an accident. The Kassams and Grads fire into Israel are with the specific aim of killing as many of our CIVILIANS as possible. IF The Grad fired at the Mall in Ashkelon had not hit the cross beam, a lot more than 18 innocent people would have been killed along with many more injured. Did he come and look into that on behalf of the UN and HRW ? No of course not!! I wonder why??????
7. Tutu told Haniyeh firing rockets was a gross violation
Rick & TC ,   Israel   (05.29.08)
And yet when Israel defends its citizens according to Tutu it's a "massacre".
8. tutu :the new Sherlok Holmes !!!
trumpeldor ,   eurabia   (05.29.08)
Better than military investigators;another great soul ! did he forget that hamas consider black people as inferior !!! Was he promised to keep his head if he spat against Israel ???
9. Maybe TUTU should investigate
Alexander ,   The Hague Holland   (05.29.08)
all the murders and atrocities done by south african to Zimbabwans the past few weeks. Hekeldike schwartze.
10. This is a joke!
Dani ,   Tel Aviv   (05.29.08)
"Tutu wraps up investigation of Gaza deaths" takes this professional investigator 24 hours to get a detailed report and make a conclusion! He wrote the conclusion in 2005 even before the incident. He just waited for the the report....
11. Xenaphobic Xpert
Stan ,   Johannesburg RSA   (05.29.08)
Tutu should be at home sorting out the Xenaphobic massacres that are currently occuring in South Africa. Innocent people are being burnt alive or hacked or blungoned to death. So far 48 murders. In RSA he preferrs to apeal for calm with no finger pointing as to who is to blame (in line with goverment "silent-diplomacy"). Isn't this a clear case of the pot calling the kettle black!!!! He should know better than to take sides in a conflict he is ignorant of!!!!
12. Mr. Tutu
jerry ,   usa   (05.29.08)
Mr. Tutu is a demagogue in every sense of the word. He took upon himself an investigatory task, the conclusion of which was already specified. A "massacre" is an emotionally laden word and elicits in others the need for "revenge." So, indeed, it is Mr. Tutu who is calling for violence and blood on the ground. He maintains his leadership position through false accusation and exceedingly destructive rhetoric. That is why he is a demagogue. He should pay closer attention to his own weed-filled garden in South Africa, where being from another country is enough to get you killed these days.
13. Tutu wraps up
I.Kemp ,   Nahariya Israel   (05.29.08)
What has Tutu done about black butchering black in South Africa ? Nothing ! While they hack fellow blacks to pieces TuTu sees fit to deal with something that has nothing to do with him and submitting a worthless report to the UN who has been found to be guilty of prolofic child abuse and raping girls as young as 6 years by many of their UN "Peacekeepers"
14. While he speaks to the press
Stan ,   Johannesburg RSA   (05.29.08)
innocent migrant workers who sought only a chance to perform labour intensive work for minimal wage ($10 a day) are being set alight and left to suffer the most ghastly of deaths (takes about 1 hr) while Tutu the gentleman trots around the globe stirring up hatred against Jews. How can he be shocked by what he saw at Beit Hanon - surely he has seen 1st hand what it is like for someone to die after being set alight ??? It seems this vision does not shock him as much as the indignity suffered in Beit Hanon
15. How about looking into the Al Dura affair?
rachel ,   usa   (05.29.08)
Mr. Tutu ? You either want to see what you want to see , or you are a complete uninformed idiot .....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J63FZz6k2Wo&NR=1
16. #5 Jews in israel don't just come from eastern europe
rachel ,   usa   (05.29.08)
17. "silence and complicity, especially on the situation in Gaza
facts   (05.29.08)
AND WHY DO YOU THINK THAT IS? Because everyone knows that, put in a similar situation, EVERY country would be compelled to take the same sort of action! Who doesnt know, really, how these mongrel people (under 'siege') are?
18. What is sources to make such a quick and dramatic conclusion
(05.29.08)
"We are at the stage of shock... by what we subsequently heard from the survivors of the November (2006) Beit Hanoun massacre," Tutu said. So basically he went there for 24 hours, talked to people proclaiming to be survivors and thats it.... Nothing else, forensics's? actually visiting the site? asking to actually examine remnants of the the bombed out place? So basically he went to Hamas and asked them what happened.... and he got this verdict. WHO WOULD HAVE GUESSED!
19. When is Tutu going to Darfur?
Raphael ,   Canada   (05.29.08)
I'm truly sad to hear this situation in Gaza occurred, but I would think that solving a problem where hundreds of thousands are murdered and even more are displaced would be a more logical place to look for masacres. This is really strange to me.
20. No. 2 Christy
NYC Girl   (05.29.08)
Yes, Tutu is a fellow-traveler of Jimmy Carter. And beyond their shared ideological antipathy toward Israel, they also share that loathsome theological viewpoint known as "replacement theology" which basically says the Jews screwed up, so God wanted Israel to belong to the Christians.
21. Tutu wraps up
Marlene ,   Israel   (05.29.08)
No 9 you said it all. Tutu should look at what has happened and what is happening in South Africa. One of the most beautiful countries in the world is being brought to its knees. Tutu go back home and mind your own business- sort out your own problems .
22. Mr.Tutu
An Israeli   (05.29.08)
Why don't you go where you needed, back in SA and take care of your own people. It's people like you and Mr. Carter who have nothing better to do with their time, coming here to stir the pot. Amazing how you suggest the Pals should stop SENDING ROCKETS into Israel but when it comes to the IDF it's a crime against humanity.
23. Is this a joke?
Mike Cato ,   USA   (05.29.08)
While Tutu's South Africa is infested with mass poverty, violence, a spectacular muder, rape, crime rate, plus an almost unparalleled HIV/Aids epidemic, Tutu comes to look at "Palestine." Better he should go back to his South African utopia (which will soon be another Zimbabwe). Here is proof, once again, as if we needed it, that the "Palestine refugee crisis" is used by despots, tyrants, opressors around the world to divert attention from their own crimes.
24. Improvised military and probing expertise
Jul ,   Liverpool, UK   (05.29.08)
Tutu is an impressive man. Despite being a bishop, he seems to have all the required skills to conduct a probe about a fairly long gone event of military nature. I'm sure that relying on testimonies from gazans is the right way to go. They'll tell you exactly the circumstances, the terrorist activities in the area, the shell type, its trajectory, the meteological conditions this very day and all you need to know to reach conclusions. I'm also fully convinced that all the material evidences are still there, lying around because as we all know, gazans DO NOT rush on scrap metal to sell it back... This is perfectly ridiculous to try to pass this media stunt as a proper enquiry. It was simply an occasion for a man who took sides to turn cameras to what he considers to be a just cause, taking advantage of his now damaged reputation of rightneousness. It's even actually pathetic to try to put this story into light again, as if the day it happened, it didn't draw enough attention for him. A bit like a cover song is a way to make easy money for an lousy artist, "probing" this event is a cheap way of scoring PR points without any substance or added value.
25. Do not let the facts get in the way of your investigation.
rh ,   modiin   (05.29.08)
Tutu's conclussion was pre-concieved Let him go make peace in South Africa where at least some respect him
26. I can't help but laugh!
Ram ,   London   (05.29.08)
Here is a man who has always expressed his anti-Israel feelings being allowed the task of fact finding on an incident in Gaza. So he goes to Gaza speaks to the Palestinians and reaches his conclusion! What a fine way to reach judgment, just like they do in Africa and Arab Lands. I love the sense of humour certain organisations have, especially the ones that hand over Nobel Peace Prizes to the likes of Arafat and Tutu. I blame the western nations for pandering to the backward nations by financing and handing over to them the reins of institutions such as the UN. We need change! (No reference to Obama :))
27. #16 The leaders do
(05.29.08)
28. Human shields.
Robert Bernier ,   Tel Aviv   (05.29.08)
Israel cannot be blamed for hurting human shields. The key problem to be addressed is the way in which terrorists exploit their own civilians, forcing them against their will to serve as human shields or obtaining their agreement to serve as such. When human shields are used, those who agree to be used are combatants, and have chosen to die. As far as involuntary human shields are concerned, the terrorists are to blame for every civilian who is killed.
29. not an honest broker--
bob ,   potomac md   (05.29.08)
Tutu remained silent about Arab oil sales to apartheid South Africa--the regime got ALL its oil from the Islamic world--his light tap on the wrist about rocket attacks on Israel--which will only get worse--is itself disgraceful
30. #28. I understand. Your just following orders
