3. Its time for peace between our two countries
Iyad ,   Latakia, Syria   (05.30.08)
I call for peace between Syria and Israel based on the complete return of the Golan heights (1967 border) and the rcognition of Israel as a sovereign state with the condition that neither Syrian land nor Israeli land will be used to target the other (to neutralise any iranian or american threat). No country can forced the other to sever ties with its friends (Syria/ Iran: economic ties exist; Israel/USA vital ties exists). Lets talk peace, cultivate the land share the water and trade. We r todays generation; while we respct what our forefathers did its a new world. Lets stop war mongering.
4. Even if Assad is sincere (?) he will not be able to keep...
Simon Cobart   (05.30.08)
Even if Assad is sincere (?) he will not be able to keep his engagements! Agreements in the past and future with Egypt, Jordan and the Palestinian Authority are either reversible or did not cost much. But with Syria, the situation will be different: From being an empty buffer zone, the Golan Heights will turn into a crowded anti-Israel region for generations to come. From being a strategic asset to Israel, the Golan will turn into a burden on top of the other regional efforts to eliminate Israel. Our future generations will not forgive anyone who would do that. We do not have the right to abandon the Golan Hights as explained at : http://tinyurl.com/6grear

I appreciate your aspirations, but how do you expect Israel to agree with Syria close military relationship with Iran, when the last openly preaches for the destruction of Israel ??

Syria is tied to Iran because of what is currently perceived by Syrians as an Israeli threat (rightly or wrongly). It never used to be like this. Hizbullah was created in 1982 after Israel's invasion not before. Israel was protecting itself at the time from its perceived threat too. Mass exodus of palestinians in 1948 created the threat from lebanon, and so on ......Violence yeilds violence. Syria would recognise Israel (arab peace plan 2002) and Syria is not Iran (each to their own). Out of despair , Syria had no choice but to link with Iran; personally i would like to see the continual survival of the secular government in Syria compared to the the religous islamic 'theodemocracy' of Iran. The carpet will be pulled from under the warmongers feet and negate the need to have a military tactical advantage. It takes fools to make wars but It takes bravehearts to establish peace. If peace prevails, this will negate the need for military ties with Iran but what is wrong with economic ties? they will be helpful in raising the standards of living in Syria. Prosperity arises peace prevails. People in Syria just want their Golan heights back. Practically, I think Syria will promise that no threat will emit from the Syrian side; which front has been in aquiescence all this time? the Syrian front. Peace, Shalom, Salam

Persian CAT   (05.30.08)
Ted, if you think Iran is not involved in the negotiations between Israel and Syria, your vital signs must be checked immediately. Syria is an independent country, unlike Israel which lives off the American tax payers paychecks, and doesn't need Iran's permission to conduct its affairs. Iran and Syria have had an unshakable alliance that has enabled both to withstand many threats by their enemies- oddly Syria has never been able to have such an enduring and effective alliance with any of its Arab "brothers". Also I would like to know when Iran says it is talking to "other elements", it means Israel. Think about it. Iyad, I don't want to rain on your parade but a cautionary note, please remember you're dealing with a bunch of Zionists whose main goals are expansionism and racism by means of occupation and subjugation of the people around them. I don't wish Islamic theocracy on ANYONE, but I would like you to realize that Islamism and Zionism are two sides of the same coin. The peoples of the ME will not see peace unless these two fanatical, religion-based political movements are ERADICATED.
8. To Iyad#3. THAT'S The Duty Of The Head Of State.
Maansingh ,   The Netherlands   (05.30.08)
You say :".. complete return of the Golan Heights (to Syria) ..". Dear Iyad, you should know that Golan Heights is part of the Jewish Homeland given to the Jewish People by YAHWEH, the Supreme Lord, in 1320 B.Chr. -- as told to us by Moses the Law Giver. IT belongs to the Jewish People from 1320 B.Chr. onwards -- till date and forever. AS Moses the Law Giver is ALSO accepted in the Koran as an authority -- the Muslims and anyone else should accept that the Jewish People are the OWNERS of the Golan Heights. Iyad, the British WRONGFULLY, ILLEGALLY ceded the Golan Heights from British Mandate of Palestine to the French Mandate of Syria in 1923 AD. During the Six Day War of 1967 Israel recovered the Golan Heights, which was theirs all along. SO Iyad, why should Syria cry over something, i.e. the Golan Heights, which is NOT theirs ? I agree with you that Israel and Syria SHOULD sign the Peace Treaty -- it is long overdue. I agree with you that Israel and Syria should normalize their relation -- it is time. I think the new generation of Syria should talk to President Bashar al-Assad and explain him that this is a NEW time and a NEW world, and that he should STOP chasing the Golan Heights -- instead, he SHOULD apply ALL his energy, time, power, network, money, to improve the living standards of the Syrians with plenty of job opportunities, with plenty of food, and lots of enjoyments. THAT'S the duty of the Head of State.
9. "The border with Syria is quiet". Nonsense. Return the Golan
DkS ,   J'lem, IL   (05.30.08)
Our border in the Golan might be quiet, but in return Syria is burning our borders on all other sides (Gaza, Lebanon). The only reason why our direct border with Syria was quiet in recent years is the fact that the Syrians were afraid of a direct confrontation with us. After our military debacle in Lebanon, that fear is gone. The question is what you people want. Return the Golan after another bloody war in which plenty of Israeli lives will be lost (the Sinai scenario repeated); or return the Golan after peace negotiations and try to get the most out of it. Furthermore: that whole "the Golan has strategic value"-argument is nonsense too. The Syrians really don't need the Golan in order to shoot missiles at us. They operate Hamas & Hizbullah for that and can shoot them from Damascus too. And the Syrians commanding a tank division down the Golan with our army waiting for them on the other side, would be military suicide. Any military strategist will tell you this. Wake up people: The Golan is nice and we all love it. But in the end we're better of without it.

Ok. So your religous dictact says to you must have eretz israel. Live in the real world and learn compromise Maansingh. If we all followed our religous dictat then we it will be the making of armagedon. Application of the old testiment/jewish scriptures to the full would mean going back to the pre dark ages where cities are seized , burnt and woman and children are enslaved, and men are slayed (similar sentiments in other so called Holy books) We are in the 21st century not the biblical ages. If we were to go back and rectify historical mistakes and reverse migrations, then all white caucasian americans, south africans, and australians should return to europe leaving the land to their original owners. Impossible! Its fanatic viewpoints that make co-existance impossible. Say you were to follow your religous sacred texts and the muslims to follow suit to the letter; the world = inferno. We are talking modern current geopolitics. Dreamers of Eretz Israel or Greater Syria live in the past. Its the 20th century political blueprint we should refer to governed by modern international laws (yes manmade dare I say) that should guide us. Just like you relied on the Balfour declaration, UN partition plan to further your aims, so do Arabs rely on UN resolutions 194 and 242. It is modern politics that will sort this mess out. Leave the extremists from both sides out of the picture. let heads prevail. Islamists fanatics want to elliminate the Jews; we should say no! Jewish extremists want to ethnically cleanse the Arabs; we should say no.
11. To Iyad #10. Arrangements Made By ALLAH.
Maansingh ,   The Netherlands   (05.31.08)
You say :"If we all followed our religious dictate then it will be the making of Armageddon ". Dear Iyad, I beg to strongly disagree with you. Moses the Law Giver is the representative of YAHWEH, the Supreme Lord. Prophet Mohammed is the representative of the same YAHWEH. IF the Muslims goes against the arrangements made by ALLAH, the Supreme Lord -- the Muslims will be PUNISHED by ALLAH, the Supreme Lord !!! ON a different note : Real religion means to know the Supreme Lord, to understand the Supreme Lord clearly and factually, and as a consequence of that to develop one's love for God. THE highest goal for one in the human form of life -- is to develop one's love for God. IN other species of life, in other life forms it is NOT possible to develop one's dormant love for God. IF the human being, no matter what religion he/she practices, does not develop his/her love for God -- his/her life is wasted ; his/her lifetime is a waste ; his/her life is a waste of time.
