Before you go on about respecting rights of Palestinians.....what about the rights of Kurds in your country and the 'War Crimes' against them and even hitting them outside your borders into Iraq?? Also, the people in illegally occupied Northern Cyprus, what about their rights????

Godard happens to be an incredible film director, and it is an unfortunate thing that he felt it necessary to back out of the festival because of pressure from Palestinian protestors. What I've just read are some of the most ignorant comments on Godard and his work, and it's a shame that instead of showing disappointment, you're showing blatant ignorance and hate. I pray that the average Israeli's education goes beyond the most politically right-leaning (or left-leaning) sources, unlike the point to which your education seems to extend, #10.

Adam, we have many Kurdish Presidents, Prime Ministers, Chief of General Staff and so on we do not discriminate our people if Kurd or else Do you have any BLACK JEW minister, prime minister not to mention President, NO but you have many lay soldier to die from them Kurish problem is created by zionist agents as for Cyprus, Cyprus totaly belongs to Turkey so occupation is in south but not in north What is more you are also living on TURKISH land!

39. But where is Israel's internationally-renowned film school?
Serge ,   Montreal, Canada   (06.02.08)
Jews are renowned in all of the world's great cinemas -- U.S. filmmakers like Spielberg, Altman, or Woody Allen, French filmmakers like Lelouch, Assayas or Kassovitz. Russians like Eisenstein or Tarkovski, Czechs like Forman... Yet where is Israel's internationally famous film institute? How is it that no entreprising philanthropist or visionary has gone to these world-class filmmakers and gotten their backing for an Israel-based film institute in which Jews could come from all over the world to study and forge a new Jewish cinema?

I would like to thank you for finally saying the truth. People here need to understand that Israel is built on Turkish Land, NOT palestinian. For years "palestinians" have pushed the myth about there being a country of palestine. I again am glad to see a Turk saying the real truth about the conflict!

Thank you M. Godard. You are once again my hero. May your courageous action, reminiscient of your similarly courageous stance at Cannes back in '68, start a new wave of support for the Palestinians.

Thank you #33. Godard is indeed a wonderful (but oftentimes difficult) artist, and all of these blindingly ignorant comments about him (mostly from people that, I imagine, don't actually know anything about him) would be humorous, if they weren't so sad. And #43. Let's boycott Godard? Really? What was the last Godard film you saw? I'm fairly confident your post is just a blind reaction to the story ("French? Swiss? Disagrees with my politics? He must be an idiot!") - but Godard is an extraordinarily intelligent man (even if I don't agree with his politics much of the time, as he's known to be a bit of an extremist and a provocateur), and those of us who actually might have watched his films in the first place will continue to do so. Nice try, however. And the line "he's no Spielberg" is simply one of the silliest, saddest things I've ever read. Like pretty much everything else in this thread (except for you, #33 - thank you.) Watch a few of this man's films, read some of his interviews, and then come back - instead of basing your opinion of him and his whole body of work on this single news story. It's clear that most here who are pretending to be aficionados of his life and work truly have no idea what they are talking about, as exemplified by #27. "Hey, a film director I've never heard of - but I don't like his politics, even though this is a very inflammatory subject and lots of very intelligent, but sane and moral, people have very differing opinions on it (as much as I'd like to deny that) so he must be inferior to the single director I had heard of up until this point, Steven Spielberg."
45. #33 #44. You should know better
Chocko ,   NY, USA   (06.09.08)
than to look for intelligent comments on these pages. You are correct about Godard. Im not keen on his work but I do think he is a genius of sorts.... But to disagree with any pro Israel comment, no matter what your intentions are, (even if they are for the benefit of everyone) means you are against them....... Welcome to the Brave New World
