1. And you're wondering why Chareidim don't want to serve
Miriam ,   Israel   (06.06.08)
in this anti-Jewish army.
2. IDF INFANTRY SUCKS. IAF IS THE BEST
(06.06.08)
3. Reprimand the junior commander, not the sodliers
Jay3 ,   Israel   (06.06.08)
Sounds like this junior commander has a communication problem. There was no need for these soldiers to stay over the weekend and miss shavaut, and it seems this junior commander was just trying to be a smartass and throw his weight around. Theres always one jerk in higher command.
4. IF THEY CAN'T RESPECT THEIR OFFICERS THE IDF IS IN TROUBLE!
stude ham   (06.06.08)
Very deep trouble. Perhaps the IDF could psychologically evluate the people they promote into commanding roles? This is not the first commanding misfit that we have heard about. our boys deserve better.
5. Incident should provoke investigation
Mike Bing ,   Heiloo, Netherlands   (06.06.08)
Motivated young combat troops walk out? I do not believe they would do this unless pushed to the limit and beyond. Commanders and base commander should be investigated. If they have already lost the respect of these young men, how can they hope to command them in war? Parents concerns should be heard and considered too. This is extremely worrying...
6. If charedim don't want to serve in the "anti-Jewish" army
Ramon ,   Israel   (06.06.08)
they shouldn't live in this country! They can go back to their Polish shtetl if they feel more comfortable waiting for the Messiah there...
7. Young boys of today are so spoilt and pampered
Vicky ,   Ashkelon, Israel   (06.06.08)
I'm not surprised they act like that. You have to learn to take orders. There are some s-o-b's who get a stripe and think they are the commander of the base, but that is what his superior officer is for. Complain in the normal way, not like a 6 year old who can't have a candy bar. What if it was full war alert? if they cant take orders or put up with discomfort what hope do us civillians have if they run off home to mummy and daddy. The army on the whole have a good reputation, for out your sorting problems. Grow up.
8. Dear stude ham, respect works best when it is MUTUAL...
me ,   here   (06.06.08)
9. my roomate is in kfir
izzy d   (06.06.08)
these soldiers are crybabys who refuse to accept that the army is meant to break you down
10. Orders is ORDERS
robert goldman ,   Kfar Saba Israel   (06.06.08)
You follow orders, then when the orders have been followed you complain through the proper chs. if you can't do this simple task then you should become a Shekemist. In 10 years of service I had to follow many orders I didn't like and I had to stay many weekends that I'd planned things on BUT THAT'S THE ARMY!! once you get to understanding that the ARMY owns you while you are in it you will be better off
11. Sounds like bad decisions all around
Elihu ,   Efrat, Israel   (06.06.08)
The commander (junior officer) sounds like he does not know his men or understand how to motivate a fighting force. The allegation about ianbility to see a doctor is worrisone, as well. The soldiers should realize that being a soldier means putting duty above comfort. This should be an opportunity for all concerned to learn important lessons - if all that happens is finger pointing and blame, this will be a solely negative experience. Let's hope the investigation is used to improve things.
12.  #4 Signs of Erosion
gadees ,   vanco.   (06.06.08)
The best way to maintain discipline in the IDF, is to have Hezbollah do the training. Are we wintnessing the demise of Israeli invincible army???
13. They are in the army and not school!
jason white ,   afula,israel   (06.06.08)
There are no holidays in the army. You have to do what the officers and non-coms order. Let the moronic parents shut their stupid mouths. The sons belong to the army and not mommy and daddy. Enough with parents giving the army advice. Every anus thinks he or she is a general!
14. In my day
Golani ,   Israel   (06.06.08)
We would follow our officers to hell and back because they didn't pull crap like that, and in the rare occasions where we did have a problematic officer, he wouldn't last. We made sure of that. And then the next officer understood what could and couldn't be done. That's why we were consistently rated the top company in the infantry.
15. This incident will provoke discussions.
petra ,   usa   (06.06.08)
The army and officers should also hear the young soldiers complaints and address them No Dr? No service. Some officers are bullying young recruits by breaking their own rules. If the soldiers refuse to serve, it is in part to their officers lack of communication. A request for a Dr. tells you something too. What's the problem? The officers the Drs? Makes you wonder.
16. These boys (and girls?) should be out playing in the park ..
Chanalau, Tova ,   London, UK   (06.06.08)
.. and not learning how to kill and maim in an effort to protect the settlements. In another few years maybe some of these soldiers will be the latest ones to 'break the silence' and reveal their participation in yet more IDF war crimes.
17. Rights
Bret A ,   Tel-Aviv, Israel   (06.06.08)
These soldiers sound like they are spoiled brats. If they really want to know what 'having their basic rights taken from them' feels like, they should visit Hebron or Bethlehem and see how a Palestinian Christian or Muslim family lives for a few weeks.
18. Doesn't he IDF have an Inspector General?
Sidney ,   USA   (06.06.08)
In the US, the Inspector General's department deals with this sort of thing. Soldiers can go to it out of channels.
19. Just another Secularist officer bustin' Dati soldiers balls
shneerhere   (06.06.08)
Probably another case (how many are there?) of an anti religous officer stickin' it to his religious soldiers just because he can. It's happened plenty of times before. And Hizbollah gets stronger, and more fit, and better trained, and...... Keep infighting, and watch Hizbollah grow.
20. to number 1: haredi leadership MAKES the army anti-Jewish
Moshe ,   Beit Shemesh   (06.06.08)
you've get a HECK of a lot of nerve. if Shas did not support OSLO in 1993-1996 for MONEY, then the army would be less anti-Jewish. if United "Tora" Judiasm did not support Gush Katif expulsion for 290 million Shekels, the army would be less anti-Jewish. and then you have the NERVE to complain about this. GO GET JOBS!! It is better to work for a living than to sell your soul to Shimon Peres, Yassir Arafat and "moderate" Abass who murders our children.
21. IF CHAREDIM DONT WANT TO SERVE
leo ,   usa   (06.06.08)
MY UNDERSTANDING IS THE CHAREDIM ARE IN ISRAEL LONG BEFOR THE NON -CHAREDIE THOUGHT OF ISRAEL
22. #16 Go to the store & buy yourself a CLUE, cause it's
obvious YOU DON"T ,   HAVE 1! Israel   (06.06.08)
23. soldiers leaving base
sas ,   israel   (06.06.08)
something has to be done and looked into. this kind of behaviour of the sodiers and the officers is unacceptable.
24. refusing immoral orders
Rafael ,   Yerushalayim Israel   (06.06.08)
Remember this when the time comes to refuse the illegal and immoral orders to expel Jews from their homes. If soldiers can disobey orders that violate their own rights, all the more so must they refuse orders that violate the rights of others. Every soldier is obligated to refuse the order to expel a Jew from his or her home.
25. #16 War Crimes? Oh, you mean like the ones where the Pals
use their kids 2 put ,   on suicied vests?   (06.07.08)
26. #16 is Right, Whats wrong with that
Chocko ,   NY, USA   (06.10.08)
So you think all kids should be in the army whether there is a war or not.... I dread to think my kids Having to serve. If they have to, fiar enough but it should not be the default setting of any child. They shoule be in the park 'chilling' Whether they can or not is a different argument and I dont think Chanalau Tova is wrong in what she is saying.. Its not nice but its not wrong.
