1. This poor womens letter will fall on death ears
Simon ,   TA the free city   (06.19.08)
One canonly imagine what this mother is going through. Her life must be some kind of living nightmare. But unfortuently the politicians in this country seem only to concerence with lining their own pockets. My prayers and thoughts are with her and all the other mothers in the same situation.
2. Don't expect anything from this powerless government.
Miriam ,   Israel   (06.19.08)
With cowards like Olmert and Barak, neither your sons nor Shalit will return. If you demonstrate for new elections, there might be hope.
3. Disgusted by Israel government
Daniel ,   Amsterdam   (06.19.08)
Go for election now send them home,I am not agree on the fact that Kuntar should be release in order to avoid further kidnaping, but Miki is right .Someone has to take a decision on his son fate.I wish her all the best
4. Kuntar should NOT be released. Period.
Tahl ,   Israel   (06.19.08)
While I feel for Mrs. Goldwasser's pain, I do not want Olmert to listen to her. I do not approve releasing a bloody murderer, sentenced for several life sentences, in exchange for two dead bodies. Among his several cold-blooded murders, this monster murdered a baby girl by smashing a rock on her head. Releasing such monster is an insult to the surviving family, an insult to the Israeli people, and an insult to mankind. It would only further glorify Nassarallah as the only one who could "bend" Israel to release murderers, it would create more motivation for Hizbollah and the Palestinians to kidnap Israelis, and it would create more motivation for terrorists to murder Israelis, knowing that if they're caught alive - they would eventually be released. In summary, releasing Kuntar would considerably weaken Israel's war on terror. We cannot afford to let our policies be dictated by worried mothers.
5. Miki, yeah about that, look it's just not gonna happen.
Ehud Olmert ,   Israel   (06.19.08)
6. Kadima's famous mantra: We'll talk about everything next

7. #4 is wrong
dave ,   uk   (06.19.08)
It's a tough call, but if releasing kuntar means that ehud will go back to his wife, it's worth it. If ehud is no longer alive then no way should kuntar be released! Anyway i've read that the surviving family members of kuntar's attck have agreed to his release.
8. Being a captured soldier and dead ones
Shalom ,   Tel Aviv   (06.19.08)
Miki, while I share your pain I think your son cannot return in exchange for a criminal to go free and do more harm God knows to how many more. being a soldier bears some risks and your son took that and had to pay for it. there are many who died and no exchnage can ever bring them back. so i think you should accept the possibility that he may never return and hope that he comes without a heavy price to pay...
9. #4 is totally correct. In addition...
Millie ,   Israel   (06.19.08)
the bloodthirsty, vicious killer Kuntar said that when released he will return to active jihad (read: murder of Israelis). So, in order to save lives, this beast should NEVER be released. While it's sad that our captives' bodies are in enemy hands and their return would give closure to the families, the monster's release would only bring more death and destruction of innocent Israeli lives.
10. If Kuntar is release, more Israeli will die
Jay3 ,   Israel   (06.19.08)
Mrs Goldwasser, although i feel sorry for your situation, Kuntar is one animal that should never be released. How will you feel if Kuntar is released and kills more Israelis. Will you not feel remorse or selfish for only addressing your own needs? The only way to get your son back is to form a new government that will go into Lebanon and fight and kill Hezbollah leaders till your son is returned. Releasing murderers to get your son back is totally immoral and not the solution
11. Olmert cares for terrorists, not for kidmapped soldiers.
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (06.19.08)
12. #7. Absolutely not true.
Jake   (06.19.08)
"Anyway i've read that the surviving family members of kuntar's attck have agreed to his release." Well, you read wrong, and should not believe everything you read. The only surviving family member of that attack, Smadar Haran, is on record as being adamantly and vociferously opposed to the release of Samir Kuntar. As for the two soldiers who were kidnapped, Goldwasser and Regev, there has been no sign that they are even alive, and the body of evidence points to the likelihood that they did not survive the initial attack and kidnapping. Besides, Kuntar is not a prisoner of war of any kind, but a convicted serial murderer. Only one condition has ever been given by Israel for the release of Kuntar, and that is credible evidence by Hizbullah on the fate of Ron Arad, which has as yet not been provided. Hence, Israel is now violating its own oath, which will lead to more Hizbullah attacks and kidnappings, guaranteed!
13. No negotiations with terrorists
Ze'ev ,   Haifa   (06.19.08)
Once Israel really believed in it. If they knew we won't talk with them no kidnapping would take place.
14. The poor women wants her son back
Al   (06.19.08)
anything she says should taken under that perspective. Thats where leadership comes in. Generals must make hard tough decisions without calling the mothers back home as to what is being done. Its called war, and if Israel truly cared for its soldiers and its citizens it would have crushed the arabs a long time ago. As they havnt they need to pander to the wishes of dear familes such as this women. No rational thought can persuade her otherwise....She is a mother. Generals are supposed to be generals.
15. God Bless Mrs. Goldwasser
Leah   (06.19.08)
My heart goes out to this poor woman. On the other hand, Israel should not have to be in a position where they should be forced to release a horrific murderer, who took an innocent family hostage, and gunned down the father in front of his baby daughter, then beat the baby to death even after she begged for her life. Shame on Israel for not executing this heartless killer years ago. This man and the people who support him are evil, the whole town he came from is calling this monster a hero and planning a big welcome home party for him. How can anyone negotiate with people who are so twisted in their thinking like this in the 1st place? And if the Israeli government were planning all along to give into this emotional blackmail. Why didn't they do it right after the soldiers were kidnapped? Why subject these young men and their families to 2 years of hell? If this murderer, I don't even want to type his name is released, it just proves there is no act of terror related murder so henious that at some point the murderer won't be released by the Israeli government. Israel justify's their ban on capital punishment by saying only Nazi war criminals who murdered Jews during the Holocaust deserve the ultimate penalty. But this murderer is right on the same level as the Nazi murderers of Jewish children, and if he had been executed years ago like he should have been alot of innocent people would have been spared alot of heartache .
