1. Israeli public has lost faith in Politics
Millicent ,   Israel   (06.23.08)
Duh, can you blame us, with the level of corruption in our politicians, and the scandles from molestation to bribe taking how can we not. Most of us are ashamed of our leaders and wish they would all retreat to the rocks that they crawled out fromto start with! We need to rid our knesset of all the corrupt politicians and start anews even if that means new elections!
2. Who represents you?
JP ,   J'm   (06.23.08)
The problem is our elected officials are only accountable & loyal to their party, their ego, and the shekel. Implement a constituency system - then we will actually have an MK who represents us and who is (at least somewhat) accountable to the citizens.
3. MAZAL TOV Livni for FINALLY realizing it!
Miriam ,   Israel   (06.23.08)
4. The problem is
Miriam ,   Israel   (06.23.08)
Israel is supposed to be a JEWISH State FIRST and then - if it suits its Jewish status - a democratic one. Israel, as the Chosen People with their spiritual elevation, are supposed to be the LIGHT UNTO NATIONS. Instead, Israel is TRYING TO IMITATE the rest of the world who despise that. (To prove it – The Holocaust started in the country with the most assimilation.) The anti-Jewish world hate Jews and would do everything and anything to undermine their existence. If Israel will finally realize that, and will show the rest of the world that this country is run according to the way G-d wants it from His beloved children, according to Torah, unlike other nations, the rest of the world, even the anti-Semites out there, will look up to Israel and will respect us – even our neightbors, the Arabs. Right now, Israel is a thorn to the world and it's their own fault.
5. Stand-up comic Livni tries new material.
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (06.23.08)
Ynet out of common decency could not print what most of us think of our politicians. And it is exactly people like Livni that have created this situation. She talks as if she is distancing herself from the rest of the incompents, crooks, jobniks, political hacks, parasites, self-serving opportunists, & outright lunatics that populate our political system but she is a card-carrying member in good standing. She's worried about anarchy? As if the gov't. she sits in & supports is any better than anarchy. What else would you call the collection of incoherent & contradictory policies they are shoving down our throats? What should we call the sleezy political manouevering to avoid elections? What name would she give to all the spin, misrepresentations, & outright lies we hear on a daily basis from HER government? And on the subject of spin, who wrote your speech, who is your "spin-doctor", you is advising you on how to create an image, basically, who is trying to sell an inferior product like it's cornflakes by changing the advertising? Sorry, Livni, you're just another crap politician, a professional liar.
6. This speech is part of her marketing campaign.
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (06.23.08)
It's designed to separate her from the other crap politicians, as if she is not part of the problem. Livni has evidently not heard of political leprosy - she is contaminated by Olmert just like the rest of the crew. Slime is real sticky, hard to clean off. So now she wants to create a new image? I have better advice - resign & go back to private life. You'd be doing us all a favour.
7. "Undermining the foundation of democracy"
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (06.23.08)
Is that like avoiding elections at all costs? Is that like supporting policies that virtually no one wants & then lying about them? Is that like staying in a gov't. you know to be corrupt because it's to your advantage? Is that what you mean by undermining the foundation of government? You & the rest of your cohorts are contaminated by contact with Olmert. You have political leprosy. Trying to change your image in a new marketing campaign will not work so well this time around. All the spin-doctors in Israel cannot get the slime off of you.
8. "a Jewish state is something the international community fin
Fed up Israeli   (06.23.08)
a Jewish state is something the international community finds hard to accept". Interesting that the international "community" does not find tons of Islamic republics and/or Christian countries hard to accept. Why pander to anti-semites Tzippi? This is exactly the type of thing that you should not be saying to eager anti-semites. You are giving them what they want. It is also something that a proud Jew and Zionist should never utter, are you sure of the Jewish state? If so, there is no need for that kind of statement. The hell with what the International "community" finds hard to accept!! Who gives a flying F what they think? Le'an higanu she-at omeret devarim tvustaniim kaeleh??!! You got the disillusion of Israeli politics right.
9. Boker tov! U there 20 years at least...
Sam ,   N.Y.   (06.23.08)
10. As a Jew in Diaspora-I have ZERO confidence in whole gang!
Alan ,   SA   (06.23.08)
11. Tzipi, I have the solution
RobertK ,   Jerusalem   (06.23.08)
Set up a Muslim-Arab state bordering Gush Dan and Jerusalem. Then our lives will be full of order!
12. #10 ZERO confidence in whore gang?
(06.23.08)
13. spin in a skirt
Yisraeli   (06.23.08)
But openly declaring and calling for palestinian state No.2 carved out of Israels belly will not advance you but send you to the dustbin of history as all those preceding you with same call. You have no future in politics Tzipi because you are not part of the solution but part of the problem!
14. # 4 Completly misses the point
Simon ,   TA the free city   (06.23.08)
Sorry but Israel is a democratic state and not a state according to halacha. Israel recognises all jews from all countries and of all religious observance or not at all. To simply state that everyone should be an ultra orthadox jew is not only ridiculous but also not a reality. You would be advised to sort out your own home before claiming the light unto all other nations, when we have the likes of Shas who preach their so called morals yet comprising of six convicted criminalas, just because someone puts on a black kipper and grows a beard then starts preaching i am hollier than thou hardly makes him a sadeek. Mr Benizri for example is this the light unto all nations you talk about?
15. Terry, Livni says public has lost its faith in politics
Jim ,   Jerusalem Israel   (06.23.08)
Terry you sure sound pissed off over this article, calm down breath deeply relax, everything you said in response to the article I support, I am in absolute agreement with you. Thank you, Jim.
16. Anarchy and corruption
Juan ,   Spain   (06.23.08)
The public don't want anarchy - they want Bejamin Netenyahu.
17. madam tzipili is absolutily right
rashid ,   palistinian   (06.23.08)
believe me, a palistinian state is the solution for our refugees problem and we all know that, so why the hell should we accept a palistinian state? madam tzipili is telling us with this statement that the israili has lost the fight beliveve me. what are we going to do the day after we get peace and a state, start working? start building? without eu and un money? no, that is too hard and its not worth it. now i understand why el rais said no to palistinian state back in 2000. at last....the light came on....now i get it
18. Livni's part of the problem, not the solution
Millie ,   Israel   (06.23.08)
If Israel slides into anarchy at this darkening period in our history, it is because her incompetence as both a politician and a diplomat have helped bring it to bear. Her handling of the negotiations in the UNSC during the 2006 Hezbo and her constant kowtowing to the ill-informed, anti-Israel Sec'y of State Rice were preposterous. This should have been cause enough for her immediate dismissal.
19. Is Livni in Govt or the Opposition ?
rh ,   Modiin Israel   (06.23.08)
The talk sounds like it is coming from someone outside the Government. I seem to remember she was in the Government Foreign Minister or something as can be seen by her impeccable English - not.
20. Livni says public has
Jim ,   Jerusalem Israel   (06.23.08)
the brains to think for themselves, Tzipi looks so desperate, the end of your career in sight or something?
21. why lose faith in politics
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (06.23.08)
In Israel, people vote for a party according to its program, and expect the party to follow that program if elected. When politicians, like Livni, get elected to a party and then proceed to work against the program they were elected for, people lose faith. When politicians, like Livni, ignore their constituency, people lose faith.
22. #s 4 & 2
Soeren ,   Cologne/Germany   (06.23.08)
Sorry, but this "light onto the nations"-stuff is ridiculous. Israel is not the "light onto the nations". While Israel is a nice country and a capable nation that deserves our support and sympathy – it simply won't happen that all the other nations "look up at Israel" in admiration. In fact, Israel has to fight with very contrary developments (just look at the so called "UN human rights council"). In general, the idea that one nation is the teacher of all the other is a bit presumptuous. Furthermore, we just have a "Grande nation", looking for "grandeur" as well. But even "nos amis francais" can't meet the expectations in this regard. #2 JP, the idea of a "constituency system" is convincing.
23. Livni says public has lost faith
I.Kemp ,   Nahariya Israel   (06.23.08)
Yes, you as one of the Three Stooges (Olmert, Barak the other two) are responsible. You may not be financially corrupt but you are morally weak which is a form of corruption . Why should anyone belive that you are no more than a female equivalent to Nevill Chamberlain on your performance to date?.
24. Apathy is more likely than Anarchy...
Ruth ,   Bet Shemesh, Israel   (06.23.08)
and is way more dangerous.
25. #14 And you're talking about missing the point...
Miriam ,   Israel   (06.23.08)
#1 “Israel is a democratic state.” That’s wishful thinking at best. Is the High Court not a bunch of self-appointed Leftists crooks running the show? That’s very democratic. A self-appointed Prime Minister is very democratic. A government that expels thousands of its citizens when 85% of the nation is against it, is very democratic. Thousands of rockets fired at its citizens and the government doesn't care, is very democratic. Could you explain what exactly is democratic in Israel other than their anti-Torah and anti-religious Jews spirit? #2 There's nothing wrong with "recognizing all Jews from all countries" and even accepting non-Jews to this country. But the government itself must be an example of true Judaism with Jewish morals and values according to Torah, not according to non-Jewish countries. #3 No one said "everyone should be an ultra orthodox Jew"? But the Torah did say that all Jews, whether they like it or not must abide by its laws. (Not talking about anti-Jews, like you, who have to keep the 7 mitzvot that was given to all goyim.) There's no need to wear black hats and suits to keep the Torah G-d requested from all Jews. #4 One person accepting bribes (whose corruption is much smaller than your Leftist PM) does not represent all of Shas and certainly not all religious Jews. Just like you can't compare all non-Jews to people like you.
26. Olmert the "Bad Leg" ?
Nora ,   Tel Aviv   (06.23.08)
Livni is talking like an opposition party leader, while acting as the FM of the same "Bad Leg" government. Either Olmert should kick her out or she should resign. If she does not have the guts to resign, it means that she is part of that "Bad Leg".
27. #22 Read this article by a non-Jew Mark Twain and you’ll see
Miriam ,   Israel   (06.23.08)
that the Jews are indeed special and have the qualifications of becoming a Light Unto Nations. That’s how it was at the time of Shlomo Hamelech (King Solomon) and that’s how it will eventually be when Moshiach comes where all the nations in the world will look up to them and admire them - hopefully very soon. As soon as Israel will be run strictly according to Torah, they will have siyata d’Shmaya – Heavenly help and the UN and other enemies will have no power over them. (Read the Tanach, Yermiyahu, Eicha, Yeshayahu, Yechezel, etc.) Remember the story of David and Goliath how he managed to kill him with a few pebbles. That’s because he was a G-d fearing Jew who had special siyata d’Shamaya. http://www.freeman.org/m_online/mar04/twain.htm If the statistics are right, the Jews constitute but one quarter of one percent of the human race. It suggests a nebulous dim puff of stardust lost in the blaze of the Milky Way. Properly, the Jew ought hardly to be heard of; but he is heard of, has always been heard of. He is as prominent on the planet as any other people, and his importance is extravagantly out of proportion to the smallness of his bulk. His contributions to the world's list of great names in literature, science, art, music, finance, medicine and abstruse learning are very out of proportion to the weakness of his numbers. He has made a marvelous fight in this world in all ages; and has done it with his hands tied behind him. He could be vain of himself and be excused for it. The Egyptians, the Babylonians and the Persians rose, filled the planet with sound and splendor; then faded to dream-stuff and passed away: the Greeks and the Romans followed and made a vast noise, and they are gone; other peoples have sprung up and held their torch high for a time but it burned out, and they sit in twilight now, or have vanished. The Jew saw them all, survived them all, and is now what he always was, exhibiting no decadence, no infirmities of age, no weakening of his parts, no slowing of his energies, no dulling of his alert and aggressive mind. All things are mortal but the Jew; all other forces pass, but he remains. What is the secret of his immortality? The above was written by Mark Twain and first published in HARPER'S magazine, September 1887.
28. Palestinian state
Brod ,   USA   (06.23.08)
should NOT be on Israel's liberated biblical and historic homeland but in the vast land of their fellow Arab Islamist-Jihadist countries in the region which spans from the Indian Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean. Livni fails to emphasize this. Instead she seems to crusade the Jihadism agenda of the Islamist-Jihadist world that wants to usurp Israel's liberated biblical and historic homeland from the Jews. It is time Israel's leaders say NO to the Jihadism agenda of the Islamist-Jihdist world and their manipulated entities. It is time to say NO to the crusaders of Jihadism.
29. Livni's "speech" is silly and stupid
Ron ,   Tel Aviv   (06.23.08)
She is the problem. She is feeding Olmert. How this stupid individual got into the gov't is the big question.
30. # 25 Miriam - Nope sorry i disagree
Simon ,   TA the free city   (06.23.08)
Sorry to differ but i will never ever subscribe to that point of view, infact your commments just strengthen the need for seperation of state and religion. You presume i am a leftist? try dealing with the facts not speculation, i didnt vote for Olmert so wrong again there! Also the Mitzvot - sorry, just religious mumbo jumbo based on a primative superstition. Couldnt care less about that. Regarding Mr Benizri- in fact the judge called it the biggest case of courruption in the history of Israel and all this from someone with a black kipper on his head who stands on a soap box judging and slandering others while claiming to speak in the name of God. Light unto all nations was it, more like a red light i would say. Seperate state and religion now!
