1. new UN ambassador
Reuven ,   Petach Tikvah   (06.24.08)
It is not the fact that Professor Gabriela Shalev is to become the next Israeli ambassador to the UN, it is who has chosen her for the job. I keep seeing the name of President Shimon Peres involved with almost all day to day government matters. The Israeli presidency is supposed to be non partisan, with little or no involvement in the day to day running of the country. Why is Shimon Peres allowed to become so involved with almost every decision of the government?
2. If Gillerman can't stay, he should be PM
Millie ,   Israel   (06.24.08)
There must be a way to get him to run for PM or be in position as our FM. What a great man! His will be very big shoes to fill. Does anyone know anything about Shalev? The article said nothing.
3. Uh, hello? What was wrong with Dan Gillerman?
Jake   (06.24.08)
The only politician to score a victory at the UN. How is it that he should have to leave his position even before Olmert? Israeli politics is becoming a comedy of errors.
4. I like Pinkas, but it's good to see Olmerts reign on power is
crumbling for him. ,   Rueben, Israel   (06.24.08)
5. Ambassador Gillerman
NYC Girl   (06.25.08)
This man has done a fantastic job in a very critical position. If there isn't any way to extend his tenure in order that he can remain at the UN, then the system stinks even more than most of us realized.
6. Once again, politics trumps qualifications
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, DC USA   (06.25.08)
So she teaches contract law. Nothing here suggests she has any foreign policy expertise, or is at all suitable for the rough and tumble of the United Nations forum. According to other reports, Livni was determined to put a woman at the helm, in part to firm up her support among the female electorate in anticipation of the coming elections. Sad to see that identity politics has taken root in Israel. Gillerman has won broad acclaim for his work at the UN for standing up for Israeli interests. Shalev has big shoes to fill.
7. Prof. Shalev
Paul ,   Henderson, NV USA   (06.27.08)
We hope Prof. Shalev has a steel rod up her spine and that she is wise enough to refrain from using Arabist terminology. For instance, the use of the word "settlor" as a term for referring to Israelis is wrong, improper, and a strong rep for Israel will shift the debate to locating the Jewish Palestinians who own the region the faux-palis are trying to steal from Israel. We are the NON-evangelical Christians for Zion and we stand by the the Patriots of Israel who are struggling to free Israel from Arabist imperialism and from the grip of the Jewish appeasers who would give the shirt off their brothers' backs for to purchase "peace" from Abdullah and other Islamic hot air peddlars.
8. Gilerman leaves UN
I.Kemp ,   Nahariya Israel   (07.18.08)
Gilerman was great at the UN and I bet he is glad to get away from the Vermin that inhabit it (and I don't mean the 4 legged variety). He will be a hard act to follow
9. Pinkas
Gary ,   US   (07.18.08)
Pinkas was the only Israeli official who could speak proper English when interviewed during the height of the 2nd intifada, and he put Israel's case to US audiences brilliantly. Every other Israeli official spoke broken English, while Arab commentators spoke refined English. Pinkas would have been a great choice--Israel is tone deaf when it comes to conveying its case to the world.
10. Gabriela Shalev
RLY ,   Givatayim, Israel   (07.27.08)
My low opinion of Livni is bolstered by her selection of Prof. Shalev to be Israel's next ambassador to the UN. I've hears she is a founder member of B'tselem, that far left organization that invariably take the side of the Palestinians rather than Israel's side in any dispute. Alon Pincas would have been a better choice - and what does it matter whose candidate he was. It's a person's suitability for the post that counts.
11. D Gillerman for PM
Luiz E Magalhaes ,   Sao Paulo, Brazil   (10.22.08)
Dan Gillerman was the best ambassador Israel ever had at the UN. He must be appointed the new FM, and later run for PM.

I love the Jewish people, every Jew must understand what he/she is and where they come from and their ethnic backgroung. this jewish nation is supose to be greatest nation ever, why? because they are a mixture of damm near ethnic group at their conception. So what is a semite. If the devine sent moses to teach, civilized, and unify. Ok lets go back to Abraham all these prophets were/are trying to leave oppression and indefference, the Jew is suppose to show the world the greastest degree of mercy, the greastest degree of love, the greatest degree of laughter, beauty etc. etc. what is this chsen people thing? Every element in creation is chosen, its here as a manefestation. Oh Israel you are gonna start making people hate you and you say this dosent matter. but when you start to make me hate You and you become the bitter taste in my mouth, you wil have a problem. Find me Israel Yes I am Your lord, find me in love, find me in nothingness, find me in peace. I saw Shalev today on cnn Yes she's qualified, Yes she's not afraid, she put her self out there. Any body thats wants to be part of the Jewish experiance without racism, without the b-llsh-t priority status should be. There ain't no pure Jew on this planet. When i see the racist practices of the saudis the madness and death of hitler, the current caste system of India and their bollywood sh-t. Im looking at livni now on tv you think cant have love for this blond hair white woman who takes pride that she's a jew Israel You better find me. Again study the histery of union that produce offspring in Jewish history from the blackest african to the whitest hittite. Find me Israel I am your lord,I am not afraid I am Robert s. Jackson, Rabb Munawwar I got other names. Find me cause I am... coming

People of Israel I stand with you all the way and do not even come close to the same views as Obama. I have always loved the Israeli Nation and I am a christian who sees trouble ahead. I don't know if it is true or not but, on Rush Limbaugh the other day I thought I heard him say that if Obama heard of an Israeli plane heading to Iraq he would shoot down that plane. That is something I don't support from our preident.I think if Israel needs to defend itself it can do what ever is necessary. I pray for you and that we wouldd help you or God would blind anyone trying to shot down your planes. One favor I ask could you send me a small Israeli flag that has been flown in Israel . American christians should know what is happening over there and stand with you. Please insert a prayer for me at the Wailing wall. Thank you.
