1. Israeli leaders are shameless, but what the author wants?
AK   (06.25.08)
The families need information. If the govt doesn't have it, they cannot get it. Israelis should wake up that they are not winning and udjust how they fight this war. Are the soldiers captive or are they dead? If they are still alive, what proof is there of their being alive? There doesn't seem to be any proof that ANY of the captives are still alive. If they are dead, then the only exchange can be dead for dead. Not so long ago Israeli 'Woman in Black' emotionally blackmailed a weak Israeli leader, Barak, to withdraw from Lebanon. As a result of giving into this blackmail, Israelis betrayed their Lebanese ally, got Hezbollah and perhaps Iranians, right on their border and exposed the third of Israeli territory to a rocket barrage 2 years ago. Will Israel get some leaders with cohones that do not submit to an emotional blackmail? If not, the entire Israel, and not just Goldwasser and Regev, are lost. Your enemies have already figured out that your weak leaders suffer from hubris, issue empty threats and bid up negotiated price, by bidding against themselves. Yes you deserve a better leadership, but I am not entirely certain if we're both looking for the same kinds of changes. What exactly 'more serious leadership mean?'
2. Don't forget the military "leaders"
JPS ,   Efrat   (06.25.08)
And the military is no shining example when it comes to commitment to the soldiers under their command. It's not just former top brass Boogie Ayalon saying that hmmm, maybe the soldiers aren't worth the price, but rather the top brass's obsession with their post army careers that seems to be driving their in-army decision making. There are few senior officers willing to take the fall when their poor planning or lousy delegation of authority leads to incidents like the ones in which Shalit and Regev/Goldwasser were captured and others killed and maimed. Then there's the shameful media spectacle of some army decision maker telling the military rabbis to rule on if Regev/Goldwasser are actually dead, and nobody bothering to tell the families about it. It's time for heads to roll and for promotions to stop using ass-kissing as a top criteria.
3. Lazy, Apathetic People = "Shameless Leaders"
Dan Friedman ,   NYC USA   (06.25.08)
Your corrupt, treacherous leaders know they can get away with anything because the people they lead act like sheep - without a peep out of them.
4. Why this Jewish self flagellation.
JMK ,   NYC   (06.25.08)
Why do you seem to think Israeli leaders are worse than others, Pres Bush does not even allown a picture to be taken of any of the thousands he has sent to Iraq to die, he does not visit any of the thirty five thousand wounded, he does visit the few thousand permanently damaged 100& disabled, never to have a life again, faces, brains blown away, life ending concussion, arms, legs, eyes, gential blown away, he would not even raise to pathetic money that is given to ex soldiers in educational benefits which today is equal to almost nothing, while right is right compared to your ideal in this respect "America is in Israel" American is now about the wealthy only, everyone else is just fodder, and slaves who must vote and spend to give to super wealthy legitimacy.
5. Israel's shameful leaders.
David ,   Brazil   (06.25.08)
What are the Israeli people going to do about the current anarchy & cesspool spreading all over Medinat Israel? How rock-bottom can a so-called 'political leadership' descent? The country is going down the drain, and the hard facts show that nobody could give an old agura less. Vital decisions, ultimatums, threats, are blared to the enemies without, and then, called off. Detterence, staying power, resilience, have become meaningless terms. From the three missing soldiers, to Iran, to Hamas, to Syria, to Hezbollah, you name it... If the great-grandmother of all military lessons cannot, and most probably will not be teached to Hamas at any given time frame, how dare those arrogant, incompetents, irresponsible 'leaders', threat the iranian adolph's missile launching sites and nuclear facilities? One doesn't need to be an expert knows best, to apply that very old, worn-out, but always as fresh as can be motto: "Do not point a loaded gun to anybody's head, unless you are going to fire". Tzahal has most tragically, become the (crying)stock for all those with deep love and respect for Medinat Israel and its JEWISH people. State-of-the-art weapons systems, doomsday artifacts, are of no value whatsoever, when the human factor involved has failed. And that, is precisely the malignant virus festering within. Unfortunately for Medinat Israel, there is no cure for such lethal disease. The enemies are more than aware of it, and are waiting...for the takeover. They have all the time it takes, Medinat does not. 'This' Israel deserves both Ehuds. I am ready to be labeled 'the most merry wrong guesser'. With a heavy heart,
6. Such people desvervs such leaders!!!
Ali ,   Ramallah- Falsteen   (06.25.08)
7. Dan, and what about us; what have we got, Bush?
AK   (06.25.08)
Rice? And what's to follow? Obama?
8. JMK, you're right, but if you fight a war, there're dead
AK   (06.25.08)
and injured. If you don't want a war, you can outright surrender and perhaps they will let you live ....on your knees. Rabin was dead wrong -- you cannot make peace with your enemy, unless you or your enemy is totally defeated, otherwise you end up only with a ceasefire. Israel is waging a semi- war and is getting beaten. Individual Israeli families cannot set national policy on kidnapped soldiers - we have already seen what the Left and their 'Woman in Black' have achieved with regard to Lebanon. As a matter of fact, Regev and Goldwasser are just some of the many victims of Barak's submission to the pressure to withdraw from lebanon in order to save Israeli soldiers.
9. our leaders
sas ,   israel   (06.25.08)
are only inerested in themselves - their salaries/their volvos and their paid telephone bills. they DO NOT CARE what happens to our soldiers. OHLMERT M\UST GO HOME NOW with his entire cabinet. They are all liars, corrupt, dishonest and their last interest is that of the public. Why do the children of Ohlmert and Barak live in the USA???????????????
10. TO AK 8 AND 7
BG ,   JERUSALEM   (06.26.08)
YOU ARE RIGHT IN THE 7 BUT IN THE 8 YOU WOULD BE THE WORST IF YOU ARE IN AMERICAN PRISEDANCY .THE WORST OF ALL THE PEOPLE EVEN WORSE THAN AHMAD INJAD IN HIS RULING OF ISRAIL OR AMERICA
11. AK, What about "us"?
Dan Friedman ,   NYC USA   (06.26.08)
In the 2006 election "us" cut Bush off at the knees. Next year he's gone. Anyway no one here is giving Manhattan back to the indians and Mexico isn't a threat to our existence. And if they were, and US leaders acted like Israel's, mobs would descend on the Capital and hang the Congress by their thumbs. Israelis have turned into schleppers and shlemiels and they're getting the "leaders" (and outcomes) they deserve.
12. Shameless? How about...
T'Yoma ,   Jerusalem   (06.26.08)
Shameless? How about worthless, pathetic, indefensible and "leading" Israel into total destruction!!! All because they're greedy, power hungry, bribable slime. That's why Olmert hasn't been thrown out of office. The rest are all just like him.
