1. The difference between MIA and KIA status in the US is
(06.25.08)
for MIA's, the spouse still gets the full salary of the MIA servicemember; so there is a financial incentive to fight the KIA designation. It is difficult without a servicemember's income to continue the fight, so the incentive to the government is to shut people up who are embarrassing them. It is a sad situation. John McCain's first wife sure liked that income from her MIA husband that would have been only Social Security if he had been redesignated KIA. She was not thankful for his sacrifices enough to try to get along with him when he returned. I guess she thought he was a hindrance to her spending his money without direction. I'm sure there was none left for him when he got back since she perhaps spent it all. The Israeli MIA spouses seem more devoted to their husbands and to genuinely want them to return. In America, as soon as the MIA income was gone when MIA's were redesignated KIA's in Viet Nam, hardly a peep was heard from the spouses after that although the military friends of those MIA's believed left behind continued to petition Congress to get them out.

More than money is hope. 2 years isn't hardly long enough.

McCain chucked his first wife, not the other way around as you are suggesting. AND McCain was pictured for propaganda many times during his emprisonment and we knew he was alive. So what does McCain have to do with the two Israeli's ? I happen to support McCain for president, but lets tell the truth, he does, and apologizes to the lady for his past behavior at every turn.
