MAHMOOD ,   LONDON-UK   (07.01.08)
Hmm!! Press announcement!! Let it be over the weekend so that we can get a chance to watch all that is going to happen.
2. this is the world's problem, not just israel's
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (07.01.08)
the iranian nuclear threat is as much a problem for the civilized world as it is for israel. why should israel do for the world something that is their responsiility in the first place? maybe the world knows that israel will do what needs to be done and, like the article says, approve quietly while providing another opportunity to bash israel publicly. israel will be the savior, incur the losses, and get publicly vilified/demonized in the process. perfect scenario, in the eyes of the world.
3. Hands of ferindship to Israel from Persia
amir esfandiari ,   Tehran - IRAN   (07.01.08)
I am a persian and would like to say to all the people of israel that many persian people like israel and wish them no harm. I am deeply sorry for the current situation. I hope for the day that I can travel to Israel and say hello. LONG LIVE ISRAEL.
4. Red lines
Said ,   London, UK   (07.01.08)
One of the red lines is "when Iran acquires the SA-20 air defense system from Russia". So basically, Israel is saying that nobody has the right to defend themselves against an Israeli attack, but Israel has the right to attack anyone she wants! And you expect us to make peace with you....
5. # 3 and you would be welcome my friend
Simon ,   TA the free city   (07.01.08)
Well as we all know by now the world is full of hatred which the religious fantaics on all sides love to fan the flames of hatred. Gave me a hope to read your post. Never loose faith there are still good people left on this planet and you my friend are one of them. We look forward to welcoming you to Israel one day. Build bridges between people not walls.
6. Dear Amir
Shmuel ,   Israel   (07.01.08)
I would also love to visit Teheran and take in so much history from your country. I love your carpets... true works of art! I have had a few persian friends in my life and wish your people no harm. Maybe if the current leadership of Iran suddenly dropped dead and there were no more calls for my destruction then the whole situation would be defused and we could visit each other. However, if this doesn't happen, we cannot allow nuclear weapons to be aimed on the heads of us and our children. We love peace but we Jews are very experienced in others trying to wipe us out. This we will not allow! I truly hope the best for both our peoples... Blessings!
7. Dear Said
Shmuel ,   Israel   (07.01.08)
Whose leaders are the ones calling for the destruction of what country? Should that country not try to defend itself? Can you add two plus two? If we in Israel were constantly calling for the destruction of Iran and trying to improve our weapons that could do that, you bet Iran would be wise to defend itself! If you arrive at anything other than four, is because you refuse it so!!
8. No. 4. Iran has a right to defend itself.
JB ,   Australia   (07.01.08)
But Israel also has a right to ensure it doesn't get wiped off the map while Iran obtains nuclear weapons and President Ahmedinejad threatens that Israel's days are numbered. This all started with Iran's hostile threats to israel. Not the other way around. If Iran was peaceful, i doubt israel would have any problems with Iran getting nuclear techonology
9. Israel may attack Iran before
Yhonatan ,   Jerusalem   (07.01.08)
Can we have the time and date please.
10. Not A Good Idea
Reuven Brauner ,   Raanana, Israel   (07.01.08)
Israel may be able to inflict great damage to Iran, but the cost, in terms of local damage and injuries when Iran retaliates, will be unbearably high for small Israel. Attacking Iran may also lead to war with one or two of the neighboring Arab states, such as Syria, who might feel this then to be an auspicious time to, in turn, attack a weakened and confused Israel. A better option is to work towards replacing the Iranian regime with a more rational, less hostile leadership.
11. #3 amir esfandiari
Andrew ,   Englanf   (07.01.08)
Your post is most heart-warming. It is a great shame that the Iranian people (who are good people and who Israel does not have a problem with) have a leadership that is going to trigger an Israeli attack on its nuclear facilities. Israel cannot tolerate a nuclear Iran. Amir, please G_d one day we will meet in Jerusalem!! Wishing you well
12. retard # 4
ari ,   israel   (07.01.08)
when a country threatens to wipe us off the map what do you think we will do?!?!?!they declare war on us we wont wait to attack!! idiot
13. "Israel may....."
I,Kemp ,   Nahariya Israel   (07.01.08)
To #4 a pity you can't be like #3. Since your fellow beings have threatened to destroy the State of Israel several times you are the "warmongers" . And before you bemoan about your "Palestinian brothers" etc Israel was never your land anyhow and never ever will be. Have another look at history .
14. The purpose behind Pentagon "leaks" ...
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (07.01.08)
While many in the US gov't. favour a US strike on Iran or at least, an Israeli strike, there are those in the Pentagon & especially he US State Dept. who are opposed. These statements come from those who are opposed, the purpose being to deter a strike by allowing time for others to marshal opposition & pressure the Israeli gov't. into not taking any preemptive action. Hopefully, the Israeli gov't. will not give in to any such pressure.
15. Who are the Americans warning?
Shannon   (07.01.08)
The world in general? The Russians? The Chinese? The Iranians? Why would they "warn" anyone about this when they're working hand in glove with Israel?
16. To Amir Esfandiari .You would be most
Eric... ,   Israel.....   (07.01.08)
welcome in my home.We had people from Iran studying and working in our factory, they were really nice people. We wish you no harm either, soo peace pal.
17. Why dont we just tell them the time
Eric.... ,   Israel......   (07.01.08)
and date . Maybe they will prepare a welcome party for our pilots.Like cake and tea.Let the world start worrying about The Iranians and not The Israelies. The world problem is Iran.
18. #4 to said
Ted ,   UK   (07.01.08)
You have a typical narrowminded view that takes some sentences out of context. Mr. A. openly declares his wish to eliminate Israel, not just as a political scenario, but also as a deep religious conviction. So, what do you expect Israel to do to wait until he's got the means to do it ?? This is simple self defence principles. See also the difference in rethoric: He target all of Israel as an entity. What Israel is targeting ? only the tools for it's mass destruction capabilities. Israel is not targeting the Iranian people.

Robert Bernier ,   Tel Aviv   (07.01.08)
Can we afford to avoid a preventive strike against a declared genocidal Iran ? A nuclear Iran has become an increasingly contentious issue. In the light of Western impotence, many Israelis are calling for a preventive strike against a declared genocidal intention. According to Israeli analysts, without preventive military action, production of an Iranian bomb is just a matter of time. Moreover, the annihilationist rhetoric used by Iran’s leaders, chiefly by President Ahmadinejad, is not a matter of sloganeering but indeed a program, in which the destruction of Israel is indispensable for the attainment of Iran’s manifest destiny – the “islamization” of the world. A quasi-consensus is emerging in Israel on the necessity of bombing Iranian nuclear installations.
20. 4 - so you admit you don't want peace
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (07.01.08)
hence the need for defensive measures.
21. All BS of course
Tax Payer ,   US   (07.01.08)
Given the historical fact that Israel always shoots first and then talks all of this is nothing but BS and bluff. Somehow we are to believe that Israel is not attacking because Israel wants diplomacy to work. Rightttttttt.... If Israel could have attacked and gotten away with it she would have done it long time ago and we would not have seen the adds in the papers and the TV…
22. Israel and Iran attack
Hilda ,   US   (07.01.08)
The shame of Israel having to go alone. Bush All talk about stopping Iran is now showing his true colors. He is only interested in appeasing the Muslim world both in his insistence on a Palestinian State, his approval of the new Lebanexe government and now the aquiesance of a world with Iran and Syria having the bomb. What does it matter if he double crosses his friend Israel and she is destroyed in the process? So he sends his emissary Condi to do the dirty work as he waits out the end of his term of power. That is his legacy.
23. bizarre...
Elana ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (07.01.08)
what is the purpose of this warning? "we warned you!" ?! why does the author of this article prefer to remain anonymous ("Ynet"), as the author of the warning ("a Top pentagon official") ? Isn't this incitement to hate? or plain bs.
24. If Israel attacks Iran, it will be the EU's fault
Larry ,   Eastbourne, UK   (07.01.08)
This is because the sanctions so far placed on Iran are a derisory joke. EU countries should join together to impose a total diplomatic, oil, trade and financial embargo on Iran, thus creating significant pressure. In addition, Iran's genocidal threats against Israel must be tackled by expulsion of Iran from the United Nations and the trial of Ahmadinejhad on charges of inciting genocide. Instead, the EU and the international community have chosen a fatal path of appeasement. The British government has chosen to do nothing despite Iran's acts of war against the United Kingdom, namely its kidnapping of British sailors and its supplying of weapons to insurgents in Iraq which have been used to kill British troops. The EU and the international community want Israel to attack Iran, but they will also put the blame on Israel. They are cowards and hypocrites.
25. If Iranians Hear The Jets
Ariya Gothelf ,   Gedera Israel   (07.01.08)
Listen for big booms to follow . There will be nowhere to hide !
26. The Truth ...
Yitzchak ,   Yerushalyim, ISRAEL   (07.01.08)
American use of a redline being the installation of adefense systems transgresses international laws of a countries right to defend itself. Truth is America and the West fears Iran and have more to lose so they should do it themselves and IDF should stop doing their dirty work. US has more sophisticated and closer weapons in Iraq already so logistically they do not need to use the IDF to do so.
27. #11 Andrew & #3 Amir
Isaac ,   JERUSALEM   (07.01.08)
Dear Andrew, to correct your post on the other side. ------------------------ Your post is most heart-warming. It is a great shame that the Israeli people (who are good people and who IRAN does not have a problem with) have a wicked leadership that is going to trigger an attack on its IRAN'S nuclear facilities. The WEST using the WICKED GOVERNMENT cannot tolerate a nuclear Iran. Amir, please G_d one day we will meet in Jerusalem!! Wishing you well ---------------------------------------------- Andrew I hope you will see that this corrects the mistakes in your Email and presents an accurate portrayal of the real situation.
28. #10 missing the big picture
Michael   (07.01.08)
There is no question in any sane person's mind that Iran will use the "bomb". the only questions are: 1)directly or through a surrogate? Second question, Is not if ?but when? Third question is Israel first or second target? The damage will be severe, but a conventional retaliation from Iran is a much better option that an nuclear strike on Israel. Wouldn't you agree?!
29. Years go by and Iran get's more dangerous.
Stu ,   west sussex, england   (07.01.08)
This is a global problem and yet 99% of the world sticks it's head in the sand again. Strike now and strike hard, and as for another bonus on a strike now....George Galloway is over there! Double bubble.
30. Said we already know you want Israel to be destroyed
Ben ,   London, UK   (07.01.08)
Said, Iran wants to DESTROY Israel so does Hamas, Djihad Islamic, Fatah (yes they do), Syria (yes they do) and many more. Israel would not be against anyone to have sophisticated weapons unless these weapons were to be used against Israel (very basic human reaction). Iran had one of the most powerful armies in the world under the Sha and Israel had no problem with it because the Sha would not look to use its weapons against Israel (same with Turkey). With the mollahs (and other psycho regimes) Israel has two choices. Either wait until it (enemies) gets all the arsenal needed to destroy Israel (I'm sure you'd love that) or it decides to defend itself against those disgusting regimes which rules their own people with an iron fist and threatens their neighbors constantly. Persia/Iran is a great and wonderful civilization and I truly and sincerely hope that Israel will not have to strike it.
