1. But America IS neutral on Mideast conflict.
Tahl ,   Israel   (07.01.08)
The only "breaks" America gives Israel is not criticizing its attacks on terrorists, and blocking all those crazy UN resolutions against Israel, initiated by the Arabs. Other than that, America pressures Israel to concede land, to freeze or remove its settlements, and to ease restrictions to the Palestinians. America supports Abu Mazen just as much as it supports Olmert, helps the Palestinians economically, and views in favor the idea of a Palestinian state. All in all, I would say it's a rather balanced, neutral position, despite what some Israel-haters may spew out in their talkbacks here.
2. The religion of peace will bring US another 9/11...
The Doc ,   Haifa, Israel   (07.01.08)
Not manycare to remember that in his inaugural speech, Bush Jr. declared that the US will concentrate its attention and resources into its internal policy and less on the International arena. In fact he was saying just that: "we'll be neutral and improve our economy". Well, that surely helped a lot! The crazed Muslims perceived that as a weakness and gave US 9/11. So yes, everybody wants to be "neutral" but this does not depend on one side alone. What do you do when the enemy brings war to your doorsteps? Do you invite him in and watch in apathy as the enemy slaughters your family? Maybe this can work for the Islamo-Leftist, drug-addicted and racism-intoxicated imbeciles, and I suspect that most of those "71%" belong to the above-mentioned population.
3. Neutral? Again?
Sheila ,   Jerusalem Israel   (07.01.08)
If a whole group of bullies are beating up on your best friend, even if he looks strong, don't you do all you can to help him?
4. What happened to the commom sense of the Americans ?
Robert Bernier ,   Tel Aviv   (07.01.08)
American pressure on Israel to destroy Jewish towns, exile their residents and give up land has resulted in "Hamas control over Gaza, catastrophe for 2,000 families, and allowing our enemies, Islam, to become stronger and present a major threat to millions of Jews... and the West. It is not acceptable for the US, at the same time that it fights terrorism on one front, to pressure Israel to give in to terrorists on another front!" It seems that the US want to get rid of its only faithful ally in the M-E, Israel, as explained at : http://xrl.us/i4sge
5. One should review just who 'worldpublicopinion.org is
Arie ,   BaGolan   (07.01.08)
And you will see just another hotbed of leftists anti-anything 'Western' ie Judeo-Christian philosophy. Any poll is skewed by the manner in which the questions are asked and the audience presented to. The question is who is taking the poll, and here we have a clear answer.
6. no thanks to the AIPACK we are not. if Israel pays
socalmaverick ,   sunny so-cal   (07.01.08)
the price, it will learn to behave and stop being a bully. then we will have peace.
7. Americans want US to stay neutral on Mideast conflict
Yonatan ,   Jerusalem   (07.01.08)
To The Americans, The war on terror is a war of survival. The Islamic jihard will never stop until it has conquered the whole world, is it worst than socialism or communism? maybe, one thing is for sure it is the enemy of democracy, freedom and the life as you and I know it.
8. Severely flawed poll
Besalel ,   Kew Gardens, NY   (07.01.08)
Firstly, allow me to do what Ynet failed to do and that is point you to the poll: http://www.worldpublicopinion.org/pipa/articles/home_page/503.php?nid=&id=&pnt=503&lb= This is an extremely flawed poll especially in the US as the poll was conducted over the internet. Every scientist in the world (including the Arab, Dr. Zogby) will tell you that internet polls are not scientific and cannot be controlled, verified or considered accurate. Moreover, it conducted a poll in 18 countries, 10 of which have either majority or huge Muslim populations including a country called (Palestinian territories). Even though they asked the residents of Jenin about the conflict they FAILED to conduct the poll at all in Israel. In all, the poll should not be taken seriously. Finally, even if it were true it teaches us Jews to STOP caring about the world opinion. We bend over backwards to be nice guys and still take it from the world. If we are already going to be branded as crazy lunatics let's at least act in a way that protects our citizens and not care about the world opinion.
9. That's funny
saus ,   Tel Aviv   (07.01.08)
Gallup polls in the USA consistenly paint a different picture with 60-70% identifying with Israel in a favorable light.. Maybe the University should go back to studying history instead of trying to make it and leave the polling to the proffesionals..
10. ex-Jews and evangelicals it's 100%
justice ,   nyc   (07.01.08)
If you exclude the jews and the rapture crowd, it's 100% of Americans who think Israel doesn't play a positive role. As for all the other polls, they are rigged.
11. #4 What happened to the commom sense of the Americans ?
Don Saliman ,   Nahal Oz, Israel   (07.01.08)
Read #6, Maybe this socalmaverick can answer you. " no thanks to the AIPACK we are not. if Israel pays " socalmaverick , I have one thing to ask you. Do you think that if America is neutral and stays out of the middle east conflict, that the terrorist will leave America alone and say we are sorry that we hit America on Sept 9, 2001?
12. poll of 'americans'-poll of ex-pats
elliot ,   point roberts,usa   (07.01.08)
these people choose not to live in america-small suprise they dont think much of amerca's freind!
13. Poll Results
NYC Girl   (07.01.08)
These findings fly in the face of every other poll taken in the U.S. regarding Israel and the Palestinians. The support for Israel has always far exceeded that for the Palestinians, and even more so after 9/11.
14. America-Israel
(07.01.08)
I do not know if these statistics are accurate, but one thing for sure, if American Jews think that America will always be a friend to Israel, they are mistaken.
15. lol @ "to stay" neutral!
Marwan ,   Amman, Jordan   (07.01.08)
16. No. 6
NYC Girl   (07.01.08)
That's an utterly delusional belief. In fact, I can guarantee you that if tomorrow we dropped a bomb on Israel and annihilated it completely, we still wouldn't have any peace. First of all, bin Laden's primary complaint with America had nothing to do with Israel. Israel was only an afterthought because it's the easiest way to get the Arabs' knickers in a twist.. What got him so riled up was the fact that American infidel troops were stationed on the holy soil of Saudi Arabia. And, second of all, the Iranians have had us in their crosshairs going back to the fall of the Shah. Again, a situation that had nothing to do with Israel.
17. If neutrality would get the U.S. State Dept to behave...
Suncountry ,   U.S.   (07.01.08)
First of all, polls in the U.S. are consistently shown to be wrong, to the left of reality. You certainly cannot count on a poll by a lefty university for "truth", although maybe "trooof". Second, many Americans want the U.S. to be neutral because the loose cannonball State Dept tries to make Israel do suicidal things. Israel would come out better if the State Dept would keep hands off. ..
18. WRONG!!! Most Americans are PRO Israel...
Yonatan ,   USA   (07.01.08)
I don't know the percentage, but if you speak to most Americans, they are very pro Israel. I have NO idea where they got their numbers.
19. Yonaton #7 is exactly right.
David Powell ,   Everett, Wa. USA   (07.01.08)
We Americans cannot afford to stay neutral on mideast conflact. There are Islamic extremeists who are out to destroy and take over the world. We are living in the most dangerous time since WW11 and ignoreing the threats that are coming from the middle east would be desasterous.
20. US neutrality allows Israel to crush Hamas and Hizballah!
Jack ,   San Diego, USA   (07.01.08)
21. When Arabs actually want peace, it will happen.
David ,   Boston, USA   (07.01.08)
The PA doesnt want peace. Heck the arab world doesnt want it. It never did. It wants a made up history. They are stuck in a fantasy, not reality. Their children suffer because they dont live in reality of history, but make reality based on fantasy.
22. I'm one of the 29%
Jerrold Cohen ,   Seal Beach, USA   (07.01.08)
I am one of the 29% to doesn't want the United States to be neutral about the Middle East. I want us to kick Israel's ass and not give it a penny, much less $3 billion, and give the money all to the Palestinians to bring back their economy. And give them some fancy F35 Jets too.
23. America is responsible for the politicly weak Israel
zionist forever   (07.01.08)
The US should stay neutral on this it is American that got us into the oslo mess. Oslo was born because George Bush senior wanted arab states to join the coalition in the Gulf War in 1991. Israel was going to pay the price for the American coaltion. That led the Bush pushing Shamir inro the Decleration og principles with the PLO and that eventualy led to oslo. Under Clinton the US startesd friendlier and friendlier with Arafat and kept putting the preasure on Israel to make concesions. Bibi gave away Hebron that was on Clintons order. Barak was willing to give up Jerusalem again on Clintons order In 1979 Begin wanted to hold onto a small part of Sinai, Sadat didnt want to compromise on anything so Carter forced Begin to abandon any plans for holding onto Sinai. The one bit of land Begin wasnt interested in holding onto was Gaza but Sadat didnt want tha either so Carter says Israel keeps Gaza it will still have this status of occupied territory but dont give it to Egypt because they dont want it. America more than any other has been responsible for Israel paying high prices. Israel is an inidipenent state, the arabs are Israels problems and the US should stay out of it and let Israel find the best way to deal with its problems not America under arab oil preasure.
24. US never been Nuetral..!!
Rami ,   Nazareth, Israel   (07.01.08)
in recent history, US has never been nuetral and always been biased toward Israel. The title should have read something like: American want US to START being Nuetral..."
25. Talkbackers
John ,   USA   (07.01.08)
FYI : Iranians are not Arabs, they are Persians.
26. #19
John ,   USA   (07.01.08)
Please learn how to spell before you comment. Your grammar makes you look like a fool.
27. sofsof, at last, world waking up to the evils of Zionism
Chanalau, Tova ,   London, UK   (07.01.08)
You cannot fool all the people all of the time. The truth emerges eventually and crimes against humanity will not remain unpunished. The days of the settlers are numbered.
28. Statistics...
William ,   AZ. USA   (07.01.08)
Anyone who's taken a statistics class can attest that polls can be shown to "prove" pretty much anything. Those who ignore Gen.12:1-3 do so at their own eternal peril. THAT pronouncement did come as the result of a poll. G-D bless Israel and USA in The NAME of Yeshua!!!
29. To John #25 and #26
Besalel ,   Kew Gardens, NY   (07.01.08)
Response to #25: Thank you for your little tidbit. After reading your comment and not understanding the reference I went back and read all the talkbacks again to see if anyone referred to Iran as an Arab country. I couldn't find one. What are you referring to then? Did I miss something? Response to #26 - while David's spelling is poor it appears to have been done in haste without the benefit of a spell check (and where would any of us be without spell check?). But then you say his GRAMMAR makes him look foolish. His grammar looks ok. It is his spelling that makes him look foolish as do your unwarranted criticisms. Have we stumbled upon another pompous, elitist, leftist? Everyone is an idiot except those that listen to NPR, are card carrying members of PETA, watch the Daily Show and vote Democrat. Gotcha.
30. Chanalouse
Yerach ,   Jerusalem,Israel   (07.01.08)
When will you stop spewing your Jew-hatred from behind your burka? If you love the Palis so much let them settle London. London created this problem so now you & your fellow Brits can undo the damage by absorbing them in London
