1. LET OLMERT STAY AS OUR PM
David ,   Shilo Israel   (07.02.08)
Who else can successfully negotiate the surrender of Israeli land to our dedicated enemies, without a feeling of shame? Who else is desparately motivated to achieve any type of result, regardless of the consequence, as long as that will help one's own personal survival? Who else will stay focused on reversing Israel's gains to ensure a vulnerable weakness for every Israeli child's future? Thankfully, there are still Jews from the political right, center and left that can tell the difference between a gift horse and a trojan horse. If PM stands for 'pathetic madman' then we know who gets the prize!

Robert Bernier ,   Tel Aviv   (07.02.08)
Even if Assad is sincere (?) he will not be able to keep his engagements! Agreements in the past and future with Egypt, Jordan and the Palestinian Authority are either reversible or did not cost much. But with Syria, the situation will be different: From being an empty buffer zone, the Golan Heights will turn into a crowded anti-Israel region for generations to come. From being a strategic asset to Israel, the Golan will turn into a burden on top of the other regional efforts to eliminate Israel. Our future generations will not forgive anyone who would do that. We do not have the right to abandon the Golan Hights as explained at : http://xrl.us/bmazn
3. What direct talks should be about.
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (07.02.08)
Direct talks with Syria can serve a purpose. We should not be talking about the Golan nor even about "peace" - whatever that is. We should be telling the Syrians that in the event of an Israeli strike on Iran, Syria should stay neutral. Any Syrian response will be met with the total destruction of Syria. They can continue to be our enemy, they can support all the terrorists they want, we ask for no changes in their current abominable policies. But if they participate in any way in Iranian retaliation, it should be clear to them that they will not survive as a country. This is the real meaning of "Peace Talks" ........
4. Syria Isreal diect talks
I.Kemp ,   Nahariya Israel   (07.02.08)
They deserve each other although as #2 correctly states Assad at least is sincere which can hardly be said about Olmert over anything except his desire to maintain power at the cost of eveything and everyone.
5. deception
Steven ,   Sarasota, USA   (07.02.08)
This is a deception orchestrated by Assad's allies in Tehran, designed to distract Israel's attention away from the (nuclear) ball.
6. Olmert, hands off the Golan
Judah ,   Golan Heights,ISRAEL   (07.02.08)
If we have direct talks with Syria then it should be as Terry from Eilat said that is to warn Syria to stay out of the upcoming conflict with Iran. If Assad does get involved then he will find his country destroyed and he and his family dead or in hiding.
