faisal ,   dubai, UAE   (07.17.08)
What do you expect from a people that your army has murdered up to 25,000 of which the greater percentage were women, children & civilians in the last 30 years?...any chance they have to celebrate a moment that highlights their enemies' misery they will take full advantage of. This is the nature of the middle east. Your returned dead soldiers are murderers in their eyes. Vicious circle.
2. In ME say: Dog bark, wind gone...
Smart   (07.17.08)
3. what about your army
jiff   (07.17.08)
thousends of innocent palestinian children were killed by your army.
4. The difference between us? You killed 1000 of our civilians!
Mike ,   Sydney/Beirut   (07.17.08)
The IDF are a force of Samir Kuntars and don't you dare deny it! You put people in power who openly talk about destorying our entire country with no regard for human life, innocent or not! Need I remind you of the statements Halutz made during the war? Need I remind you of the thousands killed in Sabra and Shatila by your hero - Ariel Sharon? No Samir Kuntar is no hero. But Israel and the IDF are the true villains!
5. AMEN!
Aharon   (07.17.08)
6. Answer
sourana   (07.17.08)
It's surprising and funny how the people of israel fail to recognize who their government and soldiers truly are. you are talking about samir kuntar who killed an innocent child?Did you ever try to count how many lebanese, palestinian or arab child have you killed?Do you know how many palestinian innocent child is present in your prisons? Before insulting your enemies just try to look back at what you have done since 1948 till now for the arabs and you will defintely find answers for the arabs' acts against you! The arabs are defending their territories and their rights while occupied. That is what makes the difference between you and them.
7. The Gall Of ZioNazistan
J. Abramoff ,   Zion, ZioNazistan   (07.17.08)
talking about "moral boundaries". Take your blinders off man, this artificial western creation was founded on other people's land, built on the destruction of their futures. Perhaps you forgot " a people without land for a land without people" and other foundational myths of your racist entity. The rest of us have not forgotten the countless lives murdered in cold blood by the criminals who founded this abomination. Pitch your drivel to ignoramuses who know nothing.
8. Uri, is not right what you are doing...
Harissa ,   Israel   (07.17.08)
To think that because the celebration in in Beirut, it is of the Lebanese people. There is a deep wound of separation between the Lebanese that keep them into a never-ending civil war. You know as welll as I do. I dont think the stategy would be to blame the Lebanese peope, but to get together against the terrorism that overwhelm them and that is controled by "Syria"-read Iran now days. With all respect.
9. Prisoner Exchange
Judith Yacov ,   Herzlia, Israel   (07.17.08)
You are absolutely right. See how fat he has grown on Israeli food, and with the education he received while in prison, perhaps, after he finishes his round of photo ops with the gallery of villains, he will work for peace like other former terrorists, twisted by the education they received in their childhood.
10. Stupid article written by the same...
Spinner ,   World   (07.17.08)
First off my condolences to the families of Udi and Eldad!!! May they rest in peace! Now about this stupid article written by the same type of people he condemns! I know for a fact Israel has celebrated a-child killer! Most are or were leaders of the country! Hmmmm...geeeee I wonder if the Mossad will "target" him now and blame it on someone else. ;) Any way, those who throw stones should not live in glass houses themselves!! Uri Orbach...get a life and stick to your day job, because journalism is NOT your forte!!
11. How many children bruied alive under debris on IAF aggresion
Tayfun_Turkey ,   Istanbul   (07.17.08)
How many children bruied alive under debris during IAF aggresion oh Lebonan? They uncovered hundreds of children under wreck of buildings -all of which were just civilian buildings Israel is number one child killer of the World I am for hanging Child killer in all nations, including and if there are any among Muslims, Arabs or Iranians, certainly ISRAELIS? Would you also support Hanging command level culprits of child killing attack including man of peace (Peretz) and Olmert and IDF commenders?
12. # 4/6
Thomas   (07.17.08)
The thousands killed in Sabra and Shatilla were killed by their Arab brothers, who because they are Christian were murdered by the PLO. It was revenge for them. If Sharon is guilty it's only on a technicality. Instead of whining about S+S, why not find out what motivated the Phalangists tyo do that. Kuntar as a Lebanese Druze was not defending Lebanon against Israel. He murdered that family in the late 70's, Israel's occupation of Lebanon didn't begin until 1982. I could look beyond 1948 and see know badly Arabs and so-called Persians treated their religious minorities and think this is no different.
13. Mike in Sydney
Gimpel the Fool ,   Johannesburg   (07.17.08)
Spat in anyone's food recently? Go to Cronulla, pal.
14. Israel moral boundaries.
Geo ,   Canada   (07.17.08)
Well, Samir Kontar he might unintentionally killed the girls during the fight and he didn’t go to Israel to kill a child. During second Intifada more than 5000 Palestinian were killed half of then are under 18 years old and among them way just born baby all those were intentionally killed by IDF the most morally army !!!.Remember Mohamed Dora killed in the hand of his father and the8 years girls Iman that killed with bomb shill at the beach with her family, remember twice Kana massacre with babies and children picture, remember pictures of Israeli kids signing the bomb shell to Lebanese kids etc… example can be uncounted so please don’t talk about moral boundaries.
15. Like teaching a pig to sing, just a waste of time.
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (07.17.08)
16. Not So
Reuven Brauner ,   Raanana, Israel   (07.17.08)
Our author writes: "Israel has no disagreement over borders with you..." Not so. Southern Lebanon is part of the biblical Eretz Yisroel, the Land of Israel, and bequethed by G-d to the Jewish people. That our author has recanted on the Zionist dream of reclamation of authentic Jewish lands is his own opinion. However, his opinion is not consistent with traditional Jewish aspirations.
17. Schizophrenic .
Southern ,   South Lebanon   (07.17.08)
Just re call a picture from your country of few kids kissing and sending their own greetings to the kids of Lebanon and you will know exactly how schizophrenic society and culture you represent .
18. To #1
Empresaria ,   Israel   (07.17.08)
I don't agree. Plain and simple, that does not justify rejoicing. That makes people sick, not as in.. The Israelis are sickened by this. But it makes you, the Arabs who are happy that Samir Kuntar is EVEN alive sick, and demented. If it was someone who murdered soldiers, alright, we get it. This has no justification... this is just blind hate taken to a whole other level and civilized people all over the world will laugh at the nations who praise this man. More than they are laughing already!
19. Just for the record
Layal ,   Beirut, Lebanon   (07.17.08)
I'm personally against any civilian targeting, specially when it comes to children ! Do not forget the massacre of Qanah for God's Sake. If Kuntar is being accused for killing a little child, what about the state of Israel who killed our children. In the end, and I must say it again, I'm not in any way happy that Kuntar killed a child, and I'm not happy to see our children getting killed by your cruel weapons.
20. Letter to the Lebanese people
Yonatan ,   Jerusalem   (07.17.08)
the only reason so many Arab women and children die is because their fathers and brothers hide behind them for protection, an Arab father can torture to death his daughter, a brother his sister. so Samir Kuntar is the perfect national hero for you, Makes Kahli Gibran look like a criminal.
21. Now we see why peace is so elusive
thru-other-eyes ,   amsterdam NL   (07.17.08)
That one man's 'freedom fighter' is another man's 'terrorist' is of course not new. Yesterday's events and today's columns and forums like this one, serve to show where the key to our conflict, and its solution lie and why progress remains so elusive. Until we on this side, and we on the other side, learn that our pain and suffering is not exclusive or more deserving, we will get nowhere. Until we Israelis and Jews learn that to you, our cousins, the loss of a beautiful and innocent mother, son, daughter or father by our army and our bombs is no less painful and causes no less suffering and arouses no less feelings of anger and perhaps hate than the loss of one our own innocents at the hands of someone like Kuntar, until we learn that empathy, we are doomed to a never ending cycle of violence. But you, my cousin, must also learn to empathize with our pain. It is ironic, that we each hold the key to the other's salvation. Let's open these locks that hold us down. I will open your's; you will open mine. Peace, shalom, salaam
22. Funny
Said ,   London, UK   (07.17.08)
Its funny how the greatest terrorist state in the world deems itself worthy of preaching to us about how morally superior they are. No wonder the world hates you: you slaughter innocents, with no remorse, and then expect everyone to cry about one or two soldiers you lost in a war. Israel is the one that first started kidnapping Arab soldiers (read your history for once!), don't cry about it now that you get a taste of your own medicine!
23. The truth is...
Akram ,   Paris / Beirut   (07.17.08)
... Israel and IDF is no better than Kuntar! I am a pure anti-Hezbollah Lebanese guy and Kuntar is NOT my hero. With all my respect to your article, when you say half the truth, you loose your objectivity and become vulnerable to tough critics. If you are really a good fellow, just write few lines about those children who IDF buried under the rubble 2 years ago in Lebanon... Waiting for your reply Uri!
24. To Urbach
Tom ,   Toronto   (07.17.08)
Countries hold their murderers who kill for nationalistic ideas dear and close to their heart in different ways. You shower your generals with honors and political careers for ordering the death of children by your military. You'll probably run for the excuse 'But they didn't want to kill them'. How big is your moral discount factor then? How many 'unwanted' but still ordered killings equate one intended killing: 10, 100, 1000 or more?
25. Shame, shame on us...
Moshe ,   Yerushalaim   (07.17.08)
Shame, shame on us. Each murderer should die. Asking for bodies in exchange for alive killers??? Shame, shame on us. Families who lost their sons should demand killers to return home dead!!! Shame, shame on us.
26. Letter to the Lebanese people & sourana # 6
Yonatan ,   Jerusalem   (07.17.08)
# 6 If Arabs Parents didn't abuse their children they wouldn't become terrorist. Just a vicious circle that Arab leaders like Nasrallah exploit, and you do nothing to stop. Nes par?
27. answer to # 23
Nick Sporek ,   Jerusalem Israel   (07.17.08)
It was unfortunate collateral damage and NOBODY in Israel would have dreamed to celebrate the deaths of innocent civilians. You might want to blame Hezbollah for using the civilians as human shields.
28. Don't Generalize Mr. Orbach
Walid ,   Riyadh, KSA   (07.17.08)
Before you write such an article you should have the basic knowledge about Lebanon and the Lebanese. As a Christian Lebanese, and I trust that the majority of my countryfolks share my point of view, we know that Mr. Kuntar is a monster and baby killer who smashed that child's head against a rock and we know that Hizballah is the worst terror organization which ever existed (it's even more evil and dangerous than Al Qaeda due to Iran's support and planning). Some people like the senile Christian general Aoun support Hizbo because he's got his own political agenda, but the majority of Lebanese (except for Shiaa) are against them and their acts and we look forward to getting rid of them one way or the other. The problem is that Syria & Iran back these croonies to use them later in bargaining with US and Israel, whereas we have no support from anyone
29. I agree with Layal
4whom the bell tolls ,   Lebanon   (07.17.08)
We shall never forget the picture that was all over the internet during the 2006, the one of Israeli children writing on the bombs they were sending as "gifts" to the Lebanese ones. Yes, killing civilians is wrong. And what is even more wrong is to dwell on the past and instill the spirit of revenge into young and vulnerable minds. Both our peoples made mistakes, but as Ghandi said:"an eye for an eye makes the whole world go blind". So let's stand up, all of us, in a unified stance for peace, we are not medieval animals anymore, let us transform all the energy we expand in hating each other and throwing back accusations and violence back and forth into forming a new generation that will not repeat our mistakes. We owe them a better future than ours, or else we wouldn't have learned.
30. Kuntar Freedom
abdullah ,   Lebanon   (07.17.08)
If you think that Kuntar is a child murderer (of course" israeli" soldiers are the one who killed her), then what can you say about those who murdered more than 23 chidren and infants in Qana 2 and what about Qana 1? "Israel" is responsible for that massacre. Do you differentiate between children nationalities? is it ok to murder Lebanese children?
